At first glance, it seems pretty nice. A bit incomplete (lacking a lot of spells, for instance) but WIP, after all.

I'll take a more in depth look in a bit.

With the spells/powers/abilities, I'm modeling them to be similar to how Savage Worlds presents them. I'm still working on it.

How does attribute mastery work? The +X to the d4.

How does attribute mastery work? The +X to the d4.

Mastery is a bonus to the total roll.
For example, if you have 2d4 in Body and 2d4 +2, you roll a total of 4d4 and add 2 to whatever result you roll.
Does that clarify it?

No. Let's say I roll a 3d4+2, getting a 4, a 2, and a 1.

So that is:

4-2 successes
2-0 successes
1-negative 1 successes

For a total of 1 success. Where does the +2 come in?

So, points to succeed at a task are accumulated, then the Mastery is applied.
Your example is a roll that grants a total of 1 on your roll. Before comparing numbers for the result, the +2 bonus is applied to your rolled result, for a total of 3.
Basically, you add your total Masteries used in the roll to whatever total is rolled on the dice. So, a result of 1, plus a +2 mastery is a total result of 3.

I think I get it now. You should add in details about that, because no where in the doc does it explain that.

Alright, I'll go and do that.
Sorry to have confused you.

I don't see it.

The way I understand, you get to add the +X bonus wherever you want. So a +3 can be a +3 to a 1 or a +1 to three 2s.

The way your success system is set up, that's really the only way it makes sense, but it isn't explained. Just says it's a static bonus, which again, makes no sense under the success system.

Actually, the dice rolls determine how many points you can accumulate to succeed at a task, determining if the attempt succeeds against a set DC.
Mastery is a static bonus applied to the total accumulated points from a roll, the bonus itself representing training and proficiency.

Oh, okay. Yeah, that makes a bit more sense.

Have you considered running a test game here on GitP?

If you do, i'd be all for playing.

Ah-ha! During character creation, I found an issue-all point costs are even. You get an odd number to buy abilities. It leaves a point left over without intentionally crippling a stat by a mastery of -1.

Body: 2d4+2
Mind: 3d4+3
Soul: 1d4-1
Combat: 3d4
Skill: 3d4+4
Affinity: 1d4-1

Fast
-Defensive Roll
-Prehensile Tail

So, what this error is telling me is to make it 26 points? How many do you think I should give at character creation?

Also, I'll think about running it on GitP. I'll want to finish the basic system before I think about testing it, but I'll keep that in mind...

NOTE: Added more Spells/Powers/Abilities...

Just an even number. 24 or 26 should work fine.

Also, make Mastery of -1 worth -2 points. That way, everything is even. (And I did some test rolling-that -1 Mastery hurts.)

Fixed cost for -1 Mastery.
