Thoon was supposed to kill the Fates themselves, which I suppose would end destiny and unwrite all prophesies. There's a lot of things you could do with that idea really, it can go anywhere. It could work as an Elder Evils type thing, with divination magic failing and set astronomic ( or astrological, this is fantasy) events not happening as they were supposed to. Stopping this would still leave the PCs in a position to re-appoint Fate and start writing destiny all over again.
