A bunch of these have extremely vague or limited descriptions of powers. Cthulhu for example. What exactly can he do? Didn't he get crushed by a boat in "The Call of Cthulhu"? That's hardly very impressive when you consider him up against Dr. Manhattan. {scrubbed}

I think we might end up getting some ridiculous mismatches in the next round too. Still be interesting to see though. Top contenders here look like Dr. Manhattan and God Emperor of Mankind IMO. Maybe some of the deities too if we can pin down some power level on them.

Cthulhu had just woken up in "Call" and was not up to full power by any means. The boat that hit him just squished him a little and he healed up right after that. Since Cthulhu isn't alive by the rules of normal reality he can't die. Given Manhattan's powers which only effect normal matter he may not even be able to directly effect Cthulhu.

Well if a boat can squish him he can clearly be affected (at least in some way) by normal matter. Shouldn't be too big an issue with putting him in some sort of box or the like. I agree he probably can't be killed though. It's not clear Dr. Manhattan can be either.

Someone drove a boat through his head, but it was already reforming when they turned around to look.

On the other hand, at that point he was basically standing on his porch in his underpants shouting "Get off my lawn!" at the noisy kids, not actually wakening because the stars were right.

I dunno, I would consider Dr Manhattan approaching god tier with his complete matter control, Cthulu is only a priest of the Elder gods. He's pretty powerful by human standards, but he specifically ain't god tier.

First, that's extremely insensitive against the vocally impaired and psionically gifted. Just because Cthulhu likes to contact people telepathically doesn't mean he can't participate.

Second, people really don't instantaneously burn out when they hear Cthulhu. The more unstable minds are stricken by his call, but healthier individuals can whether it better. Going mad is more of a slow burn than instant insanity in the mythos anyways.

Wait, he's making copies cheer for himself? That's kind of sad. It sounds like one of those corny visualizations a cheap self help book would advise. That's just going to make the audience pity him. Cthulhu on the other hand, has cultists. The original old school groupies and backup performers.

But you see, that's how he wins. Because he's listed first he has the first verse, so by the time Doc gets on the mic the entire audience has been driven to incurable insanity by Cthulhu's eldritch flow (over a beat in a time signature that attempting to measure reduces people to gibbering wrecks, able only to curl up in a ball and mutter 'tekeli-li'). As such, no one is even capable of registering that Manhatten has said anything, much less react to him, so Cthulhu wins by technicality.


Anyway, my verdict on the rap battle pairings:



1] Loki (Marvel) vs Morgoth (LotR)
-Now it's true, Morgoth was able to sing songs of creation. Unfortunately for Morgoth this is not a singing contest, it's a rap battle. Also worth noting that his attempts to ad-lib his own verses in the aformentioned song were so bad they corrupted parts of the world, which doesn't bode well for any of his attempts at free-style.
Loki, assuming the film version is a decent representation, has a flair for showmanship, and a knack for both bragging and insulting. Adopted son of Odin probably takes this one.

Unless Scion has 'super-rapping skills' on his list, I think this goes to Cane; the man can really generate a following from his work with words and has the potential to be the most motivated and inspired horror-core rapper to pen a verse

Slender Man doesn't speak; Pennywise does. Rapping clowns are also apparently something of a popular niche, which he'd be able to exploit

27] Death (Discworld) vs Dream World Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street)
Death historically has a bit of difficulty with mortal metaphors, which would put him on the back foot against anyone. Krueger meanwhile would take to dis raps like a duck to water

28] SCP–106 (SCP Foundation) vs The Tall Man (Phantasm)
The tall man has the better name and stage presence, but given that one of his weaknesses is sound he's doomed once 106's corrosion inevitably causes the makes to melt and flood the room with feedback

31] Thomas Covenant (Chronicles of Thomas Covenant) vs The Lich (Adventure Time)
