A loud ringing wakes you, the thin cot doing little to make you want to stay in bed. Simon's voice, brash and loud, starts to shout. "We're about to make planet side in Bellsand! Gotta practice a little maintenance, so you can't stay on the Gambit. We'll be here for a day or two, so take care of what you need now."

(The Gambit is set up like a military vessel. Each tiny room is placed to the side and apart from another, with the only other available areas being a small kitchen nook, the engine closet, the main turret, and the cockpit. The cockpit is fairly roomy, though that involves Simon's brash company and he leaves the entire area a mess with old food tubes and cheap books.)

Mikkael stretches and rises. "A new world! Can't miss seeing that coming up ... but that cockpit is utterly intolerable. I know!" he says to himself.

With his hastily gathered possessions he heads up to the turret, nodding to anyone he passes en route.

Modgier rolls out of the cot and rolls his head around a bit with a noisy popping coming from his neck. He takes a towel from one of the larger pockets on his kilt and starts wiping the sweat off of himself on the way to the kitchen nook, muttering to himself as he pulls a canned stout from the fridge. He takes a deep drink of his drawven breakfst as he makes his way to the cockpit. "How long until we touch down? Maybe we can actually get a replacement fan for that room.

Tiyeri sits with one mechanical leg crossed over the other repeating to herself a few simple phrases. I am Tiyeri Lowtail.
The world has pain and anger,
I have pain and anger.
I am not pain and anger,
nor is the world pain and anger.

I am Tiyeri Lowtail.
The world has pain and anger...

"We're about to make planet side in Bellsand! Gotta practice a little maintenance, so you can't stay on the Gambit. We'll be here for a day or two, so take care of what you need now."

And I have anger. She looks at the intercom clearly annoyed. This simple trip was quickly becoming more work than it was worth. She sits in silence for a while staring at a stuffed teddy mouse next to her. The mouse was arranged in a mirrored pose to her own. After a few moments she began again.

About her in the room sits assorted gears, wires, and batteries. A vague organization is seen as to the right of the bed sits numerous gadgets all taken apart and played with. Opposite that on the left wait many old dusty machines and small unusual toys waiting for their turn to be taken, disassembled and left as a collection of spare parts.

"Back to Bellsand. Wonder how much has changed." Ven murmurs to himself as he packs his spellbook away. "Maybe I can find some work, get enough coin for some more crafting supplies." He straps his pack and sword on and heads to the cockpit, nodding back to Mikkael as he passes him. "Morning Captian, Mod."

The Gambit rumbles as it touches down on the dusty planets surface. Even through its hull you can feel the intense mid day heat of Bellsand. Simon grumbles to himself as the sand scours through his ship, no doubt increasing the maintenance bill in the process. He presses a small button on pilots seat and the airlock slides open, letting in even more the oppressive temperature and blinding light. Indoor landing pads are available, but also quite expensive.

Modgier exits the vessel without missing a beat, the dry heat of Bellsand being akin to a mild day on his homeworld. His focus was drawn to a small grocery list, the top item of which was bold and underlined. 2 CASES OF WHITE DWARF STOUT The rest was simple comfort foods suck as chips and packaged cakes in addition to various goo tubes. Although tasty and well-sustaining, the goo simply couldn't beat the feeling of tearing into seared meat with an accompanying crunch of steak fries; a tase he looked forward to once his errands were done.

"This ... isn't quite how Aeric's holocards described it." Mikkael muses,"matches the guidebook data though I suppose."
In case there's anything I should know now, [roll0]

He loosens his collar and grabs a quick cup of water from the kitchen before peeking into the cockpit. "Ah, Ven? I think you mentioned you knew this world, and a fellow who could drop a hint as to where business is conducted here would be appreciated."

Tiyeri had grab her pack and belongings. She did not enjoy returning to this planet, but she was being forced off the ship for maintenance.

She met the others in the airlock. The heat was intense but she had lived her before, and in her native jungles. The fact was it may be well over 100 degrees but it was a dry heat. The humidity on her home world seemed to make 90 degree weather much worse than this.

She considered what she might wish to do while waiting for the ship maintenance to conclude. Perhaps she would find a sandworm wine at the bar, but that was only good if she wished to be drunk. She did not. She could go shopping for scraped machines, but that was only good if you had cash. She did not. Perhaps she would follow her companions, but that was only good if they allowed it.

I suppose I will just keep you company Modgier. The human was interesting. He wore a skirt, which in Tiyeri's experience very few human males did. He had sun baked skin and piercing blue eyes. He had a strong since honor, which Tiyeri appreciated in her own way. Further more he drank like a dwarf, which was always entertaining to watch, and that was what Tiyeri wanted to see. In any case she was curious about the strange short man.

..."Yeah, I can show you around. It's better if we travel in a group, it keeps the small time crooks away. What were you thinking of doing? says Ven as he exits the ship, falling in step behind Modgier and Tiyeri.

Here are just a few options available on Bellsand.
-Look for work. There are plenty of opportunities for a Patrasi to make some money even with limited time. Gladiator pits, hunting parties, temporary muscle, even some wealthy Patrasi will pay just to have someone new to fight.
-Entertainment. In a world of such extreme temperatures, this is mostly limited to bars and vids. There are a few major Vid chains that play standard fare (The Errant Adventures, Star Centuries, These Three Techheads, Heartsong) all day long that just cost a coin for several hours. Specialist places cost a few coins more, but you get to choose and they have a wider range. Live entertainment won't really start until the night, but you should be able to find most types of music. Of course there's plenty of alcohol, available day and night.
-Rare good shops. Bellsand is a mecca for anyone interested in alien stuff artifacts, magic oddities, and even rare Patrasi equipment. While these shops are probably too high priced, there are still opportunities to be had there.

"Well, I'd planned to start off with some shopping. We're nearly out of beer, gnone creme cakes, pork rinds, and a few other essential; plus I haven't had anything to eat besides goo tubes for the last week so i feel a trip to a decent restaurant is in order. Outside that, I hadn't had much else planned. What about the rest of you?"

I can't say I have anything planed. However food always sounds good. So a quick bit of shopping and a lunch would be alright by me. The catfolk swirled a mechanical ear to here the words of those behind her.

"What's wrong with goo tubes? I like goo tubes. But yeah, food and shopping sounds good. I think I remember a good restaurant near the market district. The Prismatic Dragon or something. Big variety, good prices. That's where I'd eat when I'd been shopping in town. After that, I want to check the notice boards to see if there's any work that could get done before the Gambit's maintenance is finished."

Speaking of the maintenance, a day or two is a very vague timeline. We should probably check back in a few hours and see if our captain has that down to a more exact figure. Landing in Bellsand seems more likely to create maintenance issues than fix them, so it may be a while before we leave. I hope the captain knows an honest mechanic.

Modgier
Bellsand's grocery district is much smaller than you might expect for such a large city, but the variety it contains is unmatched. There are frozen fruits and vegetables from a half a dozen planets, rare meats from difficult to pronounce jungle worlds, and enough bulk buy alcohol to get a dragon smashed. The number of shops and stalls is confusing, with no set pattern or organization. Three in particular catch your eye.
Helven's Goo Cache- One of an intergalactic chain, only Helven's has every goo tube flavor available, with the exception of one of the incredibly rarer ones. Even more invaluable are their flavor listings, which tells you whether its grape purple or mauve carnation. They also sell other snack foods and pleasure sundries, like quick apply cyberart and cigarettes.
A to Z- A rare foods shop, A to Z sells prepackaged meals from every major planet, such as spiced Lokan trout and Flouriz dire bear jerky. Regardless of the source, people from those planets feel insulted when offered home food from A to Z.
Sara's- Simple and cheap, Sara's has a few locations across Bellsand and offers most essentials.

Tiyeri
You find yourself drawn to the tech district, a place made even more sweltering by the large press of bodies and compact shops. Vendors cry from various stalls and booths, displaying cheap products, junk, plain materials, or all of the above. Wandering from stall to stall, you start to notice two brutish looking humanoids have started following you. Their presence isn't exactly subtle as they knock a few people down just to get a better view. One is ratfaced and covered in piercings, her leather armor bearing at least two dozen sheathes for daggers, most in highly impractical places. The other is a bit more typical, wearing a pair of heavy gauntlets despite the heat and little else except a simple shirt and pants. His large brow makes the man seem even more savage and would probably turn any facial expression into a dark eyed glare.

Ven and Mikkael
The Prismatic Dragon is right where you left it, though it appears many others have discovered it's charms. Absolutely packed, only outside dining is available on the stone tables directly to the left of the restaurant. Large parasols insure some shade, though even those have trouble keeping the heat down.

Modgier enters the first store that he can reasonably assume will sell his drink of choice and makes a quick beeline for the counter. "Hello!" he says in a hearty tone "I'll take two cases of White Dwarf stout! Preferably in cans." A smile crosses his face as he fishes in the pockets of his kilt for his payment.

((Actually, do we still use gold coins or is it like some form of cred-chip system?))

Tiyeri was following Modgier until they passed the poorly named tech district. The district name was correct in that the place contained a great deal of technology, however very little of it was recent. Tiyeri makes note of the couple following her and then makes her best efforts to keep them in view with out looking at them. She didn't recognize the pair, but her slave experiences taught her to be weary of these situations. In her passing glances she didn't notice any ranged weaponry, unless you counted a thrown dagger, in which case she didn't want to count.

She makes her way to a remote corner of the district heading back in the direction she felt Modgier was heading. She stays in public view as best she can. She begins thinking about the law in Bellsand, how severely were fights punished, and otherwise trying to remember anything useful while keeping an eye out for an opportunity to lose them.

((It is a gold based systems, though planets not under Inner Link control or direction may use something else. It costs 11 gold.))

Bottles line the walls, each bearing the symbol of a notable brewery and planet of origin. The incredibly elderly man behind the counter takes your coins before heading into the backroom, only to emerge with the requested wooden cases from the chilled room. Simply touching the cold cans sends a pleasurable tingle through your arms and the man affixes you with wizened smile.

Both of the thuggish brutes start to jog to keep up with and are no longer even attempting to hide their presence. The larger one is now regularly sending people sprawling and most are now simply trying to keep out of the pairs way. When you reach the corner they are roughly forty feet behind you.

((The law in Bellsand has more to do with property rather than morality. A police system exists, though it's very corrupt and will inevitably side against outsiders. Killing someone in self defense, if even reported, isn't usually punished unless the attacker has powerful friends who want revenge.))

Modgier leaves the store with the two cases resting on his shoulder, save for a single can being quickly imbibed as he walks through the street on his way to the A-Z, intent on filling up his footlocker with unhealthy delights.

Tiyeri decides she has had enough of her random admirers and breaks into a full run herself. As a catfolk she found that she could usually outrun people, now with mechanical legs she finds that she can outrun most animals and beasts as well.

She moves mostly straight pouring on the speed and gaining distance. As she runs she looks for walls she could easily jump to gain some extra distance. She could easily jump a wall as tall as her and could usually jump up to catch a ledge twice her height if needed. The trouble is her admirers likely new the layout of town better than she did, and she would have to not only lose them but find a place to lay low for a while.
