I'm starting a 3.5 campaign soon and, as a lawful evil illithid, I've decided to specialize in enchantment, but I'm finding it hard to pick between Psion and wizard. Usually it wouldn't be an issue and I would play a wizard, but we already have a blaster wizard in our group, and I will be snapping his brain up when I get the chance. I'm wondering what everyone else thinks. So far on the group we have a rogue/assassin, wizard/elemental savant, knight/paladin, monk and I'm not sure about the last player. As a Psion I was going to take thrallherd and entrall a gimp healer in case of mummies and the like.

telepath is a pretty tasty class. is your party cool with pvp? how are you playing an illithid? that's a lot of LA to eat. due to your innate mind flayer abilities, you have more flexibility with your power choices since you don't need stuff like psionic blast or psionic charm.

due to your innate mind-control abilities, thrallherd's not gonna do much but lose you a manifester level, so you're probably better off without.

I was allowed the homebrew MoMF version of the mindflayer, and we all got +1 LA free so I'm on even ground with the party. It wouldn't be PvP once I eat a cleric for true resurrection and there's a creature which has all spellcasting as spell like abilities to negate the cost. I would eat his brain without murdering a party member
