The arcane heirophant effectively combines the familiar ability of wizards with the animal companion ability of druids ....

If you prestiged out of wizard, do you just count the wizard levels? What if you took an acf, sacrificing your familiar?

I looked at the obtain familiar feat, and it allows you to count all arcane caster levels. This could be a significant difference by level 20. Reading the text, it says:agraph on:

"In addition, your animal companion (if any) gains many of the abilities that a familiar
would normally posess. You add your arcane hierophant class level to your arcane
spellcasting class level, and determine the Intelligence bonus and special abilities of your animal companion accordingly ..."

Seems to be correct .. and if so seems like you should always drop a familiar for an acf if going into arcane heirophant

Yeah, AH grants you familiar abilities equal to your AH levels + arcane casting levels, regardless of if the arcane class granted a familiar or not. It would do the same thing for a Beguiler/Druid who entered as it would for a Wizard/Druid who entered.

Trading away your familiar ability has no impact on it at all. So go with the Conjurer ACF from PHB2 :smallwink:
