The setup is the Mechanicus has dicovered an earth-like planet being consumed by some Tyranid-like force, the twist beinhg that they are mechanical. In their quest for perfection, they see this as an opportunity to advance in their rise to the level of the Omnisiah, they send their Skitari in to neutralize and capture some of this tech.

The Skitari get 10 legions of soldiers and equipment.

The Replicators have already eaten 1/3 of the planet.

The Replicators have Borg-grade level of technological assimilation.

Anything the Tech priests can throw at them, they have it already and probably expanded upon. Anything new the Techpriest bring to the battlefield is just a risk of further improvement by the Replicators.

Frankly, a savage world would have a better chance against a Replicator invasion.
