...from modern Earth? This came out of the thread "Rich warned us!" (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41983) during a discussion of Rich's foreshadowing. The below is almost verbatim.

Note, of course, that this is purely humor and I am not serious about it... unless it turns out to be true. I start from a similar place that the original poster [from the original thread], the esteemed Koretsu, started from: A seemingly innocent single-panel thing done by Rich, from the same page, nonetheless:

http://www.giantitp.com/forums/../Images/fanart/ootslate1.gif

This was from 9/13/04, so quite a while ago. He was of course joking, but what if Xykon IS from modern earth? We have some more evidence too.

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0441.html (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/../comics/oots0441.html)

Look at the first frame: Xykon wishes for a radio. When I read this, I laughed at the anachronism. But it's not the first time Xykon has used such a thing.

He buys himself a TeeVo! You could argue that it's purely magical, but it still seems a bit anachronistic.

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0430.html (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/../comics/oots0430.html)

Look at the fourth frame. Not only does he mention the TeeVo again, but he watches a show that's from modern earth?

Obviously he was a Lawyer before he died, that's how he became so evil.

Then Elan, Eugene, and V must be from the future as well.

The triuth is that Shojo's machinations were all an elaborate cover for the real secret -- he is a robot (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0266.html), an angry robot with laser beam eyes and crushing titanium claws, sent from the future to punish the OotS in the past.

Elan mentions Vin Diesel, Eugene jokes about Pztrick Swayze, and V makes several referencea in the proto-brain strip.

Not sure about any exact instance for Elan, but I believe Eugene has to be because he knows about Patrick Swayze (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0290.html). Likewise, V is aware of Drizz't Do'Urden (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0290.html).

Of course, while we're discussing anachronisms, let's not forget about the Azure City inn with the electric coffee pot (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0317.html). And Belkar, Durkon, and V all know what it's for...

Not only Xykon, but the MitD is clearly from modern Earth as well, given his references to Power Rangers, Rainbow Brite, and other things, mainly children's toys.

I found the solution! Are you ready for this one?

RICH IS FROM MODERN EARTH! Gasp! The references, anachronisms, and such! It all makes sense now!

Yes. Xykon is Isaac from Escaflowne.

Of all the ridiculous . . ..

He is Isaac from The Love Boat. Sheesh. Isn't it obvious?

I always thought he was Isaac Newton.

You're both right.

I didn't mean it literaly, I was trying ot imply that they were similar.#

Or would be similar if this thread wasn't a load of rubbish.

And of course, Thog was about to torture Julia with Celine Deon records.

Still, Rich himself hints that Xykon is from modern earth... he was just 'joking.' Or was he?

They're all from modern earth, since they have, on multiple occasions, recognized the fact that they are in a comic and that the rules of the universe follow the rules of a game (which they reference) that has not been invented yet.

Well, if Xykon is from modern Earth, that can only mean one thing!

The party is controlled by giant space cats! Gasp!

Pop culture references doesn't mean anything. They do that in just about any form of entertainment set in a different era of time. It's just to add to the humor.

Really? I was thinking Isaac Asimov, myself. I mean, he's got the same witty style and everything. And the love of robots.

Wait, I got it:

Xykon is Roy from the future! Somehow or another, the booty talisman becomes Roy's phylactery, and then...uh...Roy goes stark raving mad and travels back in time! This explains how Xykon knows about the Snarl.

You're a maddman, a maddman I say!

That's one "D" in madman.
