Well, that certainly wasn't the best first impression if he's trying to recruit me.

Royal Fortune... that name rings a bell.

Knowledge (Local) to see what I know about the Royal Fortune, if anything.

"I might be. Who's the captain, and what's he need sailors for? Has all of the last crew jumped ship?" I chuckle at my own joke.

Altair smiles widely. Finally, a chance for adventure! "Luck has it that I am looking to join a crew!" Altair's smile grows devilish. "Providing they can provide a life of excitement and coin."
Glad to get this rolling! I look forward to sailing with all of you.

You are informed that the Captain goes by the name Roberts, as for the need for extra crew, Well tis true some do not come back once the get on land after a journey at sea, while others go on to meet their maker in a watery grave.

Ehiztari

Sitting on the roof of the tarvern, a seemingly normal alley cat watches the proceedings.

Hmm... Interesting. I suppose I should get closer and see what all these people have to say. I could use a good adventure, I fear I might be getting a little complacent.

Lithely hopping down from his perch and landing at one of the new arrival's feet, he stares up at the black-haired man for a moment then blinks and looks over to the young man who made the request. He meows once.

LoyalPaladin
2015-06-15, 05:22 PM
Altair pats the boy on the back. "Lead on, young sailor! I shall speak with this Captain Roberts about his lack thereof sailors!" Altair looks down at the cat and smiles. "What is your pet policy?" Bronze dragons love animals, and there is no difference among their half-breed children. Altair pats the cat on the head affectionately, offering it to stow away in his backpack.

"Yes, I would like to know if I can bring my pet alligator, Archimedes. He's a dear friend of mine," Kael says.

The alligator next to Kael looks at the meowing cat, and hisses at it it.

Oh, is English your second language or something like that? That's cool.

A tip for using quotation marks "": Place them around text that is a character speaking.

For example: "I walked to the store today," said the man.

This way character speech is separated from narration, so it's a lot easier for me to keep track of the idea, even if you accidentally misplace a comma. :smalltongue:

"Hello there, little buddy." William crouches down and scratches behind the cat's ears. After a moment, he stands and addresses the young man. "Well, it seems like you've got a few new recruits. Along with a new ship's cat, maybe."

"And... a ship's alligator, I suppose. That's a new one. Where'd you get one so well-trained? All the ones I've known would've tried to bite off one of our hands by now."

Ehiztari

Completely ignoring the hissing aligator, the cat turns his head and looks straight at the tall, dirty-blonde haired man and seemingly raises its eyebrow at the suggestion of riding in the man's bag. The glint of intelligence in the cat's eye is unmistakable.

While I can assure you the cat would be a most welcome guest on the ship, to aid in getting rid of rodents, but I have no idea what Captain Roberts would say about the talking alligator

If you have no business here at the inn I can take you straight away to the Royal Fortune, tis a good hour to see the Captain.
he will wait a few moments before heading off towards the docks

*edit on the npc ect speech vs using "to say things" anyone have issue with saddle brown above used? otherwise sure I can use " for speech"

Barnabus Black escorts the group through the town to the port where two ships lay presently moored.
the smaller of the two has just two masts and looks like a sloop for cargo. the larger is the Royal Fortune a fine ship with 4 masts, a whole host of men are crawling about her decks getting her ready to get sail.

Captain Roberts is on the warf overseeing the loading of several barrels when you approach.
"Ahh there ye be Mr. Black and I see ye have fulfilled yer duties in bring'n me some extra hands. Capt'n Roberts be the name, and if ye be of good stock, ye shall each reap 1/50th of our goods. All ye half ta do is sign here on the ships book and ye wiil be members of me crew."

Ehiztari

After the others had all signed, the cat hops up onto a nearby crate and carefully scratches out the name written for him. Underneath, he carefully traces the name Ehiztari, then marks the space next to it with a paw. Hopping off the barrel, he lopes off after the rest of the group. He looks mildly annoyed.

Snowbluff

"I don't think the cat likes the name Thunderpaw. That's really too bad. Everyone knows animals aren't the ones who name them." Kael says.

"Archimedes is a dumb name," says Archimedes the Alligator.

"Hahaha... but it's your name."

as Kael goes to sign the book Captain Roberts slides his hand in the way.
"One moment mate" pointing to the alligator, "the walking luggage be it trained? I have need of every hand and every hand be in need of their hands. If it not be trained it must go, for I shall not be having it aboard the Royal Fortune."

"Oh yes, he is very well trained. Archimedes, roll over." Kael says.

"He doesn't have hands, but he's pretty strong and is a powerful swimmer."

"Very well mate but at the first sign of trouble that it gives, overboard it goes are we agreed ?"
presuming you agree you are allowed to sign and both board.

as for everyone you are shown to your sleeping area, a nice hammock with only 1 other above or below you.

after the cargo is loaded the captain calls a meeting of all hands.

a loud whistle can be heard; "All right your scurvy dogs, you are all able bodied and we shall see if some are sailors yet, now give yer attention for the capt'n be having something to say"..

"Men I have here in me hand a message, it tells us that we out not be doing what we do best, now we have with us some fresh hands make sure they don't go for a walk off the side of the ship while at sea". .. just then Mr. Black bursts out from a door behind the captain rushes forward, looks at the captain then whispers in his ear..

"Gents Mr. Black has had a vision if you will , he tells me that a great prize is on its way, and it comes on the Flying Dragon under that scurvy naïve that dares call himself a captain. Now then I aim to be taken what it is they got and you lot will get it for me".. pointing directly at you the new fresh hands.

Ehiztari

The lithe black form blurs for a moment, and in its place stood a black-haired youth. The youth grins and Altair is acutely aware of a cutlass resting edge first against his side.

The youth then speaks in a slight drawl, "I would suggest, sir, that you refer to me not by that silly name, but the one I left on the contract. Ehiztari, if you will. As for those pirates, I'm itching for a fight." The youth's grin deepens, and takes on an almost feral appearance.

Leaning against one of the masts, Ehiztari's grin returns to its normal mildly amused appearance. Gesturing lazily with one of his cutlasses at the alligator and his owner, he chuckles slightly.

"I suppose you're trying to provoke me, hmmm? I've already stated my name, though if it's too hard to pronounce for you and the walking purse, I suppose you may refer to me by my family name, Shadepaw. I hope two syllables isn't too hard for you to manage, is it? Now if what was it--Cabbage? and the scale-snout are taking first watch, I suppose I'll fill in for second."

well after dark; The first mate helps you get the things, that you choose to take in the long boat ready, "Now then best be not making to much noise as ye row over it will be a long row and you don't want them knowing yer there".. they are only a small 3 mast ship & will most likely have a small crew on account of a large cargo, if I were to guess the crew will all be asleep when you get there on account of no wind they would be resting up and you might get lucky and not have ta kill anyone, but remember your task, bring back the hat & that large stone, and what ever other treasures ye may grab.

Altair smiles wildly, revealing his slightly pointed teeth. Though he appears mostly human, there is no doubt he is something more. "Where's your sense of adventure, Thunderpaw?" He whispers. "We could go down in legend as the crew who defeated a kraken while manning a lifeboat!" He chuckles under his breath, not giving away if he is just joking or slightly crazy.

William speaks quietly, but he seems a little agitated by the task he and his fellow new recruits have been given.

ok it was late when I posted those last night, I did not even check the OOC... so I updated the rowing checks post.

I can cast Ghost Sounds and Dancing Lights on the other side of the boat." He eyes the water for a moment and then jolts upright, realizing he forgot to tell them the rest of the plan. "Then we can take them out quietly from behind!"

from what you would know dangerous being a relative term, yes there are various things that could be dangerous.
dolphins, sharks, squid, octopus, whales ect..
as for specifics that might be in the area at this time of night , possible dolphins and whales, not very likely for the others

I will give you guys choices
your longboat is approaching from

1:around the midsection lowest to the water & easiest to board from, and 50/50 on getting spoted
2:around the bow a hard climb would be required & decent chance of getting spoted
3:around the stern a climb would be required but less chances of being spoted

you maneuver the long boat around to the stern of the ship positioning it so as to allow for a good toss of a rope to the upper deck, (50ft)..

okay so in checking I see enough rope on at least 1 sheet to achieve the toss, I did not go looking for a grapple hook or the like, so if one is available great just state so.

I would like 1 person to use rope DC 15 to attach the hook if one is available, a str or dex based check to toss the rope bunch 50ft into the air around a suitable deck structure, to either hold or drope back down for securing to itself
this check is DC 15 for either one.

then all PC's will need a DC 11 climb check to climb the 50ft, failure will almost certainly mean getting wet & making noise.

Ehiztari, still mildly confused about the whole warforged running out of a chest thing. Noticing that the warforged had skipped over two important things, he decided to inquiry about them. "So, if we're gonna be comandeering a boat together, why not tell us your name. Or are you fine with being referred to as Rust-bucket? And second, I noticed you skipped over the halfie's inquiry as to the nature of the egg. I'm gonna ask again, what's in that special little egg of yours? As for noise, I can make some if there's something in it for me. As for the air problem, I think just typing them up nice and putting the in the chest might work, if we leave it a little bit open. Otherwise, we can just toss em over the side."

um the duel of wills would predicate the door already being opened and IF you draw dragon blade prior to dual of wills then dual of wills can not happen as you would then goto combat - so if you want to draw dragon blade as a standard or move action, that works..

the maneuvers require actions prior to attack/damage, and prior to the door opening you did not state you were activating them.. so you need to clarify what actions are being used for what in the surprise round - presuming the dual of wills stays and dragonblade is not drawn at this point

The Surprise Round: If some but not all of the combatants are aware of their opponents, a surprise round happens before regular rounds begin. Any combatants aware of the opponents can act in the surprise round, so they roll for initiative. In initiative order (highest to lowest), combatants who started the battle aware of their

Phone though, but thanjs, this helps :p

Insightfull Strike: [roll0] to-hit (warforged slam attack), dealing damage equal to a concentration check (1d20+18), expending Focus to 'take 15'-> 33 damage

it helps me if the attack is broke down into bab+str/dex+misc+misc = total - what ever that might be...
but the thing I am concerned more about is the sheet is showing a misc modifier of +6 to a con check - what misc. modifier is providing this bonus and then also the CHA has the same misc modifier and I am fairly certain that you did not transfer from the other game with that particular bonus in tact... but I can worry on the CHA bonus as I know what it was from, but I don't know where the misc. modifier bonus for CON is happening..

Insightfull Strike:
As part of this maneuver, make a melee attack. If this attack hits, you do not deal normal damage. Instead, you make a Concentration check and deal damage equal to the check result. Your Strength modifier, your weapon’s magical properties (if any), and any other extra damage you normally deal do not modify this check (including extra damage from class abilities, feats, or spells).

first off fairly certain that to initiate a maneuver you must be able to move and unless your squeezing with another player for a 5ft step I am not sure where you are moving to initiate from, second the expending focus to gain 15ft... please explain this.

Also I am not seeing ( ROE p 7 ) where the standard warforged is getting a Slam Attack... please explain how this is possible.

I require the information before I can decide on the result of the attack

That's not how we said we arranged ourselves.

Ehiztari is flanking with and directly across from Altair.

William is next to Ehiztari, and is across (but not directly across) from Altair.

First there is no possible way to flank the captain without incurring the AoO 2nd the captains quarters are 3 squares by 3 squares with the door giveng 1 more , the captain is a large creature and takes a 10ft area that's 4 squares, I had him on his bed which in the image is in the bottom left of that map, the bottom right is only a 1/2 square and not able to have a medium sized creature fit, that leaves the middle right and the top 3 plus the door space for 5 players I don't really care how the hell you think you want to fit all the way around the captain

as per flanking I never said you could not flank I believe who ever sits at the middle right and top left would gain it but no one else...

but it does not matterI stated from the get go I was going by RAW and would be fairly harsh on that fact the rules I have gone by are written and the rules I use. as DM I have let a couple things slide where I did not need to.

as for your feeling I have not got a grasp of the basic rules well your wrong and you should realize you are.

but I am tired of the group in the first basic fight that you get you cannot take that you all got in on the surprise round and problably would have murdered the captain easy, but you feel that a standard action means you can do other actions, as for taking a move instead of a standard action as the room is small you cannot move 5ft with out shareing squeezing with your other group members

as for my not seeing how it is you think you wanted to move in well here is the thing you presumed things and assumed you could just run into a room 3x3 squares and gain flanking from behind on a large creature, just not possible and certainly cannot squeeze into that 1/2 square without incurring that AoO from the captain.

but you do not wish to go by RAW so as I stated before and in the OOC I AM DONE.. Good bye

but it does not matterI stated from the get go I was going by RAW and would be fairly harsh on that fact the rules I have gone by are written and the rules I use. as DM I have let a couple things slide where I did not need to.

as for your feeling I have not got a grasp of the basic rules well your wrong and you should realize you are.

but I am tired of the group in the first basic fight that you get you cannot take that you all got in on the surprise round and problably would have murdered the captain easy, but you feel that a standard action means you can do other actions, as for taking a move instead of a standard action as the room is small you cannot move 5ft with out shareing squeezing with your other group members

as for my not seeing how it is you think you wanted to move in well here is the thing you presumed things and assumed you could just run into a room 3x3 squares and gain flanking from behind on a large creature, just not possible and certainly cannot squeeze into that 1/2 square without incurring that AoO from the captain.

but you do not wish to go by RAW so as I stated before and in the IC I AM DONE.. Good bye

+4 for the Focused trait, +2 for the tool, I believe.

Psionic focus can be spent to take 15 on a concentration roll.
