I've never done much with familiars in 3.5 or Pathfinder, but my new character for Kingmaker wound up with a familiar and I'm wondering what to do with it.

How did this happen? Druid 6 / Zen Archer 3 who traded his animal companion for the Eagle domain, which (ta-daa!!) grants a hawk familiar. Now what?

Familiar Archetypes? (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/wizard/familiar/familiar-archetypes) Improved Familiar? (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/improved-familiar) Evolved Familiar? (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/evolved-familiar) Familiar Feats? (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/wizard/familiar#TOC-Familiar-Basics) There's lots of ways to customize it or directions you can take it in.

Interesting, thanks. I hadn't realized there were archetypes for familiars as well.

Improved and Evolved familiars don't seem as appealing, mainly because I don't see anything worth the investment of a feat on my character. But feats on the familiar...might be worth looking into.

Note that familiar feats only replace the feats your familiar comes with - generally, familiars don't gain any additional feats as they level.
