So I can't seem to find an item I remember reading about in a web enhancement somewhere that creates undead. Some kind of wrap or shroud or cloth that you put on a cloth. The cool thing though is by RAW (I think there was some argument though) is that it basically lets you create any type of undead.

Anyone know where to find it and what the name of it was?

There is something similar in Libris Mortis, but I have a feeling it isn't what you're looking for, those shrouds are (iirc) single use items that produce specific kinds of undead.

It's Shrouds of the Unholy (https://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/dx20021031x); by RAW, it can produce any undead (Atropal (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters/abomination.htm#atropal), for example :smallamused:), so broken as hell

To clarify, the Shrouds of the Unholy are *clearly* meant to replicate the effects of the spell used in their creation, and the user is meant to make decisions within the bounds of those spells... but the actual item text doesn't specify, so there's an argument to be made that RAW is that they can raise any undead the user wants, even with the cheapest one. This is absurd... but that's RAW for you.

That's the item there. Thanks. Just trying to grab it for more of a thought exercise than anything else. I doubt I'd ever participate in a game that actually allows it.

The Shrouds of the Holy on the same page are similarly interesting. Even if you restrict them to duplicating the spell used in their creation... the Raise Dead ones cost exactly the same as the material component for Raise Dead; the Resurrection and True Resurrection ones are cheaper than the diamonds needed to cast the spells.

Except it doesn't put the resulting undead under your control. So now you have to deal with a unliving god fetus that probably wants to turn the earth in a desolate, undead-filled wasteland and has all the resources needed to do so.

Pfft. You make it sound like it's a problem.

Would that even help though?
