With the Steam Summer Sale upon us, I've been itching for a good Hack'n'Slash RPG to sink my teeth into, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? The enjoyability of the combat is key, though I'm always a sucker for a good story.

Have you played Kingdoms of Amalur?

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
Might & Magic 6/7 can be this, being real time blobbers that end up playing a lot like Doom, and very combat-heavy for quest resolutions
games in the Divinity series (particularly Divinity 2)
Mount and Blade
I guess Tales of Maj'Eyal kinda counts and it's free on Steam?

I've played Kingdom of Amalur a bit at a friend's house; was alright, but not quite what I'm looking for.

The Dark Souls games have some of the most enjoyable combat I've ever seen, seconding them.

If you're looking for something more like Diablo, Path of Exile is really fun (and free!) Especially if you like having an obscene amount of options when building characters.

Seconding Path of Exile. The storyline is pretty meh but there is just so much choice available in terms of builds and there's an expansion coming around the corner that adds an entire act plus even more options for the skill tree in the form of jewels.

I checked out Path of Exile, but the amount of gore (visual and audio) is pretty off-putting, especially since I have a small child in the house. Is there a way to turn that junk off?

Picked up the Divinity series from Steam. Starting the first game; seems pretty good thus far.

Hmm, maybe Darksiders I and II? I recommend both heavily, they're awesome.

Have you found the skeletons with the existentialism issue in the catacombs yet? That's always a fun moment.
