View Full Version : Wouldn't it be awesome to see a cameo appearance by the Giant in this battle?

Wouldn't it be totally sweet if a stick figure just like Rich was visible in the thick of the battle? He wouldn't even have to have any lines, although he could... :smalltongue:

What do you think about this? Should Master Burlew make a guest appearance in the war?

No!

Besides, Rich already appears in every strip, so it would be redundant. Can you spot him?

I think he should make a cameo somewhere in the strip. And a huge battle scene somewhere soon would be a great time to slip in Rich's OotS avatar.

You mean the part where it says "by Rich Burlew?"

That hardly counts.

Yep! It's his comic, he deserves a chance to be in a story arc for a cameo, if only for one panel, really far away/tiny.

Well, if it's good enough for Lucas, it's good enough for the Giant!

As long as it's modest, like George Lucas or Peter Jackson. I'd hate to see some sort of DM ex Machina, to coin a phrase. :smallwink:

I agree. Or Christopher Paolini, writer of Eragon. To my knowledge, his only involvement in the movie was to be on camera for two seconds and get his head chopped off in the final battle.

I think he'd have to be a paladin, though. It'd be hard to disguise him as a hobgoblin or undead.

You can't have Rich appear in a strip in a small role. If he shows up at all, it would have to be a Giant role.

'Hardly' is right. That's not nearly as impressive as, say, sneaking a likeness of yourself cleverly hidden inside each strip. Especially given how simple and plain the comic is. And yet....

I don't think so. He can't be slipped into Azure City's soldiers, his hair isn't blue. He can't be slipped into the hobgoblin/undead army for obvious reasons. Maybe some other time.

I hope your happy. I read this and went into a coughing fit and now I'm probably dieing. >_>

I would be angrier, but that was hillarious.

That would be hilarious- maybe rubbing his hands together gleefully while looking at Roy's corpse...

I can't wait to see what he comes up with for Roy next.

(Ten bucks says his dad kicks him out of Heaven!)

Eh, I think his avatar would fit in better as a Tyrinar flunky, tbh.

I mean, there's still supposed to be five more books, and the Giant would look pretty out-of-place no matter which side he's on if he did it now. If he even wants to do it in the first place.

If he appears at all, I think it would be in one of the following two places:

1. Near Girard's Gate. The color scheme on Burlew's avatar is all wrong for Azure City, but if the people around Girard's gate dress like Girard, then he'd fit in perfectly.

2. As one of the guardians of Kraagor's Gate. Y'know, as a Giant. That would fit in nicely too, with all the other large/powerful creatures.

He should be either

1. A mounted knight with a huge sword bringing the pain

or

2. A peasant in a house in Azure City with a computer behind him with OotS on it :)

I think it would be cool if it was done like the Priest Scene in Sin City.

I think instead of a Rich-style stick figure it should just be a photographic image of him pasted into the comic. And he will have supernatural powers with the ladies, a la Tek Jansen from the Colbert Report... "Oh Rich, you've obviously had hundreds of girlfriends!"

In fact, why hasn't this been done yet? I want it right now.

Oh LORD that would just be INSANE, hilarious, weird and ****ed up! What an absurd moment it would be! There are tons of funny possibilities. Do the Hitchcock mr. Burlew! Heh, he won't. :smalltongue:

There are two ways he could show up.

1. He gets knocked over at gate by army then it would like Peter Jackson one cameo in his movies or Stan Lee in most.

2. Roy meets his make like Kirby meets FF4 or how Larry Elmore showed up in the very end of Snarf Quest which is great.

I'm thinking the old Hitchhiker's Guide TV series where there were a couple times in the 'book sequences' where Douglas Adams's face could sometimes be seen in the illustrations. He was also the businessman who walked naked into the ocean (the crew got him drunk to get him to do it).

It would be very funny to see him in a crowd scene! Especially if Elan waves to him or something like that.

What about blatant appearances that have no bearing on the plot (Stan Lee anyone?)

Back on topic:

If the Giant appears, he should do so in the context of the Giants of Norse Myth. They make better First One parables I think.

If at all, Roy'll be rezzed by the Giant, or the Giant, being even more powerful than a god as DM, rezzes him after some mild criticism about his actions.

A comic doesn't give one much room for philosphical debate, now does it?

I really don't see Rich Burlew doing cameos in the style of Alfred Hitchcock... or more recently, Stan Lee. It might be amusing, but highly unlikely.
