How to maximize playing a Psion?

Hi am here to ask question on how to maximize using any of the Psion character types (telepath,egoist and etc) I am doing this because I want to start using Psionics in my D&D games but I want to get a jump on player that have been using them for awhile now in other games. Can anyone help me?

That's a pretty wide question. What do you want to be good at? Some things that Psionics does well are:
* Low-mid level summoning (Astral Construct is pretty sweet at the start, falls behind eventually)
* Blasting (Not to the level of a really optimized caster, but better than a 'default' one)
* Self-buffing
* Minions - Thrallherd is very powerful, and Psionic Dominate comes online significantly earlier than the arcane version.
* Downtime buffing - If you can get ways to store powers (Dissolving Weapon cheese, Spell Storing w/ transparency, Psionic Glyph of Warding from CPsi) then you can combine things like Wild Surge, Overchannel, Metaconcert, various CL boosters, etc. to build up 'ammo' a lot more powerful than what you can normally manifest.

What kind of psion do you want to build? What do you want your psion to be able to do? As icefractal stated psion can cover a wide area of effects. Also more information would be helpful. Stuff like what books are you allowed to use, what level will you start/end at, what are the other members of your party playing, are there any dm houserules, etc.
