Regarding New User Registration and Spam Account

I'm just curious.

I noticed that recently the spam account is increasing.

I distinctly remember that back then there's a unique anti-spam measure that this forum use, that is asking the new usre to identify an oots member.

Is it still used?

I'm just wondering if the spammer now are forced to read OOTS too :smallbiggrin:

Yes, it's still there. Registration requires a captcha, identifying an OotS character (which can be done easily enough by a human with access to the cast page) and a multi-choice "Are you a robot".

It's possible the spammers managed to break it- it'd be easier to break than the captcha- but it's more likely there's just a human user creating these accounts.

I believe it has been brought up that they are likely bots created specifically for this forum, as it would be easy to program a bot to get past specific unchanging measures.
