Versatile Explorer

If you are more than comfortable travelling through familiar lands, and you are more comfortable in getting familiar with any sort of land. Unlike a ranger, you don’t have any favored terrain. Whenever you make an Intelligence, Wisdom, Strength or Dexterity check related to intuit knowledge of your current environment, you can apply half proficiency bonus to a skill when you don't have any, at the DM discretion. EX: you know how to handle a fir to lift it, you know how to swim in the waves even if you don't have athletics skill because you studied the sea...

It might be a scout or ranger feature as well...

Seems pretty weak for a feat.

It translates to a +1 to +3 on situational skill rolls that you don't have a skill for. Seems much smarter to take the "Skilled" feat and get the full proficiency bonus on three more skills-- under all circumstance.

Agreed. 5e feats are the equivalent to two or three 3.5 feats.

And the Skilled feat isn't one of the particularly good ones.

With a +1 to a stat then, or as a class feature.
