Am playing an Alchemist in a IRL Pathfinder, Iron Gods game and the DM allowed the Wolfhound as the base for the construct mount.
Thing is I'm having some real trouble picking two feats for it. I am not familiar with PF so the sheer volume of options has me stymied.

The creature's stats are spoilered below as it has some very specific feat prerequisites. For example I was going to settle for Improved Trip so it acts more like a 3.5 wolf but Int 2 but a stop to that idea.

Shouldn't the bite have the "trip" special quality anyway since it's a construct wolf?

I guess not. Seems in PF Animal Companions --> Cavalier Mounts --> Construct Rider mounts only get what their mini-statblock says they get.

But wolves do get trip. (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/animal-companions#TOC-Wolf) There's nothing in Construct Rider that says they lose their special attacks.

Construct Rider inherits from Animal Companion and this is a DM fiat allowance of a Cavelier mount (which also inherits from Animal Companion) 3rd party creature the wolfhound (word only appears twice on the page, it's stats are down under Animal Companion Descriptions almost at the bottom of the page (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/animal-companions)).

Trip isn't listed as an ability so this creature does not have it.

Huh, seems like a mistake on the developer's part, since I think basically all dog/wolf types have trip. Also by level 7 it's completely inferior to a Wolf.

I'd probably just give him armor proficiency to get barding, makes him tankier.

Yup. Anything that buffs saves, gets HP up and increases (touch) AC. Your mount is incredibly squishy compared to your character. Even more so because constructs to not gain a benefit from constitution.
