So I'm making a Spellsinger (3.0, don't have the updated one available), and I can't find an ACF for their familiar. This is a problem, asi was gonna use obtain familiar to get it back and key it to my arcane caster level.

So basically what I'm asking is, is there any ACF for familiars that works regardless of class?

Isn't there a flaw that makes you lose your familiar? That would be an "ACF" that trades it for a feat.

Forlorn. However, the way its worded may mean that you can't even get one through Obtain Familiar.

Forlorn, from Dragon #333.

Yeah, I guess Forlorn would work, but I'd prefer something that gave me benefits, if any.

Forlorn gives you a feat (it's a flaw, after all).

Alternately, take a look at the wizard/sorcerer familiar-trading ACFs, and ask your DM if you can use one of those.

There is only one ACF which is not class dependant — and that's Skilled City-Dweller. I'm surprised that there is even one really. There are no ACFs for Spellsinger.

Most people see feats as "benefits" :smalltongue:

Excellent ones at that. Wizards I make either take that or Eidetic. Familiars, while fun, are useless for most casters.

What's the race and base class?

Never mind guys, a whole bunch of things happened and it isn't applicable anymore.

There are also variants that trade away (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/classFeatureVariants.htm) favored enemy, rage, and wild shape. As I understand it, one is pretty popular on these boards. Exactly one.

What ?

Those are Class specific. My point was simply that almost all ACFs are Class specific — the answer is in the name.

I always figured that something listed as (http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/variantClasses.htm) "Variant character classes" applied to classes and something that said "class feature variants" applied to class features.

Misleading title; I'm not familiar with this problem at all.

I parsed this the same way, even though I think in the back of my mind I thought it had something to do with familiars, like familiar familiar problems.

Maybe, but the language used in describing them implies otherwise

Favored Enemy Variant: Favored Environment

Instead of selecting a type of creature against which to apply a bonus on certain skills and damage rolls, the ranger selects a specific natural environment and gains bonuses when in that environment.

At 1st level, a ranger ...

At 5th level and every five levels thereafter (at 10th, 15th, and 20th level), the ranger ...

Rage Variant: Whirling Frenzy

A barbarian with this variant form of rage ...

Wild Shape Variant: Aspect Of Nature

Instead of taking animal form, a druid with this variant form of wild shape ...

and so on.
