Thinking about joining a friend's campaign. Level 2 now, no idea how long it will go on for.

The first idea I had in my head was something with firearms (as guns are of the commonplace variety) - maybe Trench Fighter 3 as the opening, to pick up Gun Training, and then a PoW class the rest of the way.

First off, does the PoW ranged material work with firearms anyway? Second, if so, what am I looking to build into as far as class, maneuvers, etc.?

I've got a 20PB to work with, and given that somebody else is running a half-giant warder (!!!), I've got a lot of leeway as far as race selection.

Solar Wind and Tempest Gale are both ranged-focused disciplines. The former is based around tons of damage, while the latter is focused on combat maneuvers. Tempest Gale is currently in playtest (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?417748-Dreamscarred-Press-Path-of-War-Expanded!-(Discussion-Thread-V)), though, so you may only be able to use Solar Wind.

I believe that none of the other disciplines work with ranged weapons.

Ask if you can use material from the Path of War: Expanded playtest, the Desperado Archetype (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tbBIinA90VQW8eriM0TZTZCbHsSU6cdv7_44J8w564s/edit) (Page 32-33) for warlords is custom made for PoW characters who want to use guns; focus on Tempest Gale and Solar wind and go to town.

I used a bit of Google-Fu earlier and found a list of specific maneuvers and stances from other disciplines (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?373397-Path-of-War-Ranged-Maneuver-List) that also work. My bigger question was whether firearms were supported in general. And beyond that, I've never built a Path of War character before, so I truthfully have no idea what's good and what isn't.

Solar Wind and Tempest Gale are ranged specific disciplines. Steel Serpent strongly supports ranged maneuvers as well, but not stances. Silver Crane also has several maneuvers that are ranged friendly. Other disciplines have ranged maneuvers here and there. Thrashing Dragon in particular has some support for thrown weapons.

If you want gun support specifically, Desperado Warlord and Gunsmoke Mystic (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AtQz8XFrmiBFJxjcatyiodJjo3FebF-WzFOh3XfEDtQ/edit?usp=sharing) (page 9) are both gun friendly archetypes, as is the Privateer Class Template (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hHsiSKoL2nR4oWgzPKQwXfqYENuNkDmBiX323SlTPfc/edit?usp=sharing) (page 5). All of these are Path of War: Expanded archetypes though.

As long as you're familiar with the basic feats you need for ranged and gun combat, building a gunner initiator isn't very difficult. Just take the feats you need to use guns and pick maneuvers that play nice with ranged attacks, there are very few bad choices.

The myrmidon fighter archetype in Path of War Expanded is compatible with Trench Fighter as well.
