Ways to counter powers like Force Grip

I was reading force grip because one of my players if planning on taking it. and with the exception of rebuke which gives you 1 chance to counter force grip, is there a way to break the ability?

seems like as soon as it succeeds, you instantly win a 1v1 scenario.

In the Jedi Knight games, you force push the guy that's choking you.

Unstoppable Force, which rapidly knocks the Jedi down a couple pegs. It won't stop the damage, but any Jedi-hunter should take the feat to stop Force Grip from restricting actions. Armor (+2 Fortitude for Stormtrooper or Battle Armor, the most commonly useful kinds) and Elite Trooper levels (for another +4 to Fortitude) also help.

Also, liberal application of Dark Side Points and penalties arising from them: "When a Force power that isn't specifically tied to the dark side is used to harm living beings, the GM should consider increasing the character's Dark Side score by 1."
