Cross-plane spells through gate

I am not entirely sure how spells work across planes. As far as I am aware, you can cast through the gate because of this part of the description of gate:

"anyone or anything that moves through is shunted instantly to the other side"

Assuming that the plane gate is connected to has none of the properties that effect magic, will my spells cast from one plane be able to effect targets on other plane visible through the gate? In this case lets assume Fireball

I would say that "anything" should include spell effects. But "moves through" would limit that to projectiles (like a fireball or lightning bolt, or even a conjured arrow) while things like emanations or walls that don't move would not extend through it.
