I decided to sing O Buddy Roy for y'all:

That was awesome! Your voice was excellent and it reminded me of an opera singer's.

I saw that your post count is one, so I assume you joined to share the song.

Just when I thought that Elan's song couldn't get any better, you come along with that rendition. This is exactly how I thought it should sound...nay, better! Your voice is excellent, especially for this kind of song.

Darn you, you made me log on to comment on your uber-fantastic voice! And I never log in! Well, practically never. Not since that "Xycon is a fake" argument.

But even so, what a voice! That was awesome! That totally makes the comic so much better, being able to put voice and tune to Elan's song. You, my friend, have a talent.

I'm sure :roy: would like that very much.

If he himself would supervise such a OOTS Tribute Video there couldn't possibly be any infringement, could it?

and i hope the giant will also tollerate this recorded Version of his texts, even if it's a kind of copyright infringement too. PLEASE!

You say you are a singer and it definatly shows

personally, i would have loved to hear this done to a little music (despite elan not actually playing music as he sung in the comic...) and i imagined Elan to have more of soprano voice (but nothing you could really do about that)...

but still it was definatly very good and i applaud you

I almost teared up which is saying a lot considering I haven't gotten attached to any fictional characters in a novel or story since I read the Avatar series (it tore my soul apart). You make the absolute perfect bard. Hearing a rendition of "Oh Danny Boy" OoTS style to a magnificent voice such as yours makes everything seem perfect.

In any case, Elan does seem to be more like a tenor (no fault of yours). Search for the version of "Oh Danny Boy" by Harry Connick Jr. His voice sounds more Elan-like to me.

Why did I have to give up singing/trombone/piano for an education anyways?

I gotta agree, that tenor voice does seem to me more like what Elan sounds like...
Not to mention that guy sings the song at a much slower pace and has the inclusion or the piano, both of which serve very well to add more emotion to the song

pengdahl may not be able to do the tenor voice, but he could slow down the pace and maybe find some instrumental music to see too

but again, pengdahl's singing was still awsome non-theless

Thanks from me, too.

Even though I'd prefer it a tad slower and maybe with some sparse accompaniment ignoring Elan didn't, it simply shows that you have a trained voice. Sounds real nice. I also prefer your bariton to tenor. Which I somehow expect Elan to have. I think it's because he sometimes gives the impression of a big child.

The melody is not really easy, there's a long way from the lowest to the highest note. More reason to give you the much deserved kudos.

Spider Dude, Spider Dude,
Attacking Stranger is kinda rude!

I am yet another long time lurker that has come out of the woodwork in order to register to comment here. At the risk of being repetitive of all the previous posters, You have an amazing voice, sir.

When the "O Danny Boy" comic came out I felt compelled to run some searches of my own so i could put music in my mind to Elan's song. Though I was familiar with the name of the song, as most everyone in the english speaking world probably is, I was'nt sure of what the song was actually supposed to sound like. :p

Yours is, I think, the best male voice singing this melody i've heard in my searches...if any are interested, here's a link to an amazing female voice singing O Danny Boy, a slower version with musical accompaniment; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfIxtGZfE68

The female voice does'nt make much sense when applied to Elan's comic, but given the lyrics of the real song i was curious to here it sung by a woman, and I was simply blown away by this woman's voice. It's a black and white video shot in...i'd guess the 60s or 70s, but the sound quality is great. Judith Durham is the name of the artist; I'd never heard of her before, but...wow. I literally can't stop listening to either her rendition or Pengdahl's. Thank you again for sharing your talent with us!

I appreciate what you're trying to do by adding background
music, but the way you've sped up and slowed down the song
makes me sound like I'm completely out of tune! You really
need to do the tempo changes using a filter that doesn't
change the pitch.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but it really does sound
awful. Maybe I'll just record some accompaniment...

glowface
2007-05-13, 01:48 AM
Yeah, I know. That's why I said it's not the best quality. In theory, that IS a speed decrease while keeping the pitch, but hey, that's what happened.
Ah, at least I tried.

glowface
2007-05-13, 01:56 AM
Oh, yes, by the way:
what I did was:
- Slowed down a bit your singing, with a fixed rate all over the song, so it's a litttle slower and longer. When I tried to speed up the music to your original tempo, that was really not good. But your song is not sped up/slowed down, its constant.
- Sped up the music (it was really slow originally), then sped up / slowed down the music line by line, to match in tempo to your song. (Actually, if you listen, you can still hear little noises at the end of each line; I tried to merge the background music seamlessly, and worked a bit on removing the noise at these points, but I'm not that good).
- And then, of course, mixed the music to the song, with a reduced volume.

Well, maybe it's time to leave it to professionals to do music. It was just a little... hmmm... home project.

Ok, one more try.

Now I (hope) did not touch your singing at all, just sped up the music to (more or less) match your tempo. OK, now it sounds more like a zither or cymbalo than strings, but nothing else comes to my mind.

Wow.
This is the worst I've felt about Roy's death (I cared more about the paladins in 448). EXCEPTIONAL work, lads!

I must say I always kinda hate music in text. I just can pick up the tune. But actual audio, kickin ass sweet.

Awesome. Truly awesome. Also the guy who did the singing for "Bluff the stupid ogre" is awesome. But the video is... ... an improvement.

And does someone is a good actor, so he can record Elan's speech of courage, with the emotion and all?

I'll do it. I think I've got the voice for it. I should have it posted in a little while.

Edit:

and by in a little while, I mean in a day or so, because I'm incredibly SLAMMED with homework, and don't have time.

Just have to add that it's a great song. I like the way you added the haste and urgency to the pudding song as well, but "O Buddy Roy" is definitely the best of the three.

Seriously, great job. Is there any way I could download the mp3 file? Or would that be a breach of copyright/illegal or something? I don't really know much when it comes to this stuff, so apologies if it's wrong of me to ask.

Good sir, I desire your voicebabies.

Seriously, though. I have a crap voice and can't do anything with it (And it's not for want of trying), but at least it makes my potential appreciation of incredible voices that much greater.

Much applause from this little corner of the Internet.

Glad I got to hear this before it might get closed. You sir are a talent!

I always pictured Elan with a higher speaking voice but it'd be funnier if he had this supereb opera voice for singing.

Wow. Just wow.

I'm not a sensitive kind of guy, by and large, but that brought a tear to my eye.

Roy's always been my hero here. OotS's not been right without him.

Now I've got a 2nd hero here.

Wow, that was just plain awesome.

Now someone youtube it to a montage taken from the comic (would be totally awesome, but it's already awesome enough that someone sang it, and sang it nicely too).

already done here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCYLNj0KXcE

The one on YouTube is a different singer, with a sort of country/western sound. I like the ones in this thread better; they sound more true to how I think of Elan.
