You see an adorable little kitten, with gleaming tawny-gold fur and bright purple eyes. It’s expression is one of beatific peace. As you approach, it gives a pleasant mewl, and you feel a pleasant warmth fan to life in your heart.

The dark fuzz, so named for its insidious nature rather then the coloration of its fur, is a crafty creature. Legends state that the first dark fuzz was a rejected wizard’s familiar which somehow managed to retain it’s intelligence. Infuriated by it’s betrayal by it’s once beloved master, the creature began to develop a long and involved revenge, eventually culminating in the creature assassinating the wizard with poisons specifically geared to hamper his spellcasting.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifThe modern descendents of that feline assassin have retained much of their forebear’s magical nature, but over a hundred generations have refined these kittens into powerful and dangerous predators of the unwary.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifA dark fuzz feeds on the flesh of humanoids and giants, preferring such delicacies over that of animals or other magical beasts. While a starving dark fuzz might attempt to pick off a random wanderer, it is more likely for the dark fuzz to plan a much more involved hunt. They usually charm their prey into believing them to be little more then a harmless kitten. This allows them to hone their dangerous innate poisons against the chosen target.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifWhen the dark fuzz eventually strikes, it only attacks it’s chosen prey. Attacking anything other then it’s prey would ruin the ‘hunt’ and therefore it’s enjoyment in the event.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifA dark fuzz always appears as a kitten, usually little more then a month or two old. Their colorations are always those of normal cats, except they always have distinctly purple eyes. A detailed examination of the body will reveal that the torso of the dark fuzz is slightly longer and rangier then that if a true cat; almost unnaturally so. Their back legs are slightly too long, giving them an unusual hopping gait. The differences are very minute, but enough to give most creature’s a faint chill.

COMBAT
A dark fuzz is a stalker by nature. Engaging in actual combat is largely against its nature, although the creature might find itself unwillingly engaged in melee by those who save against it’s charm effect or recognize it for what it is.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifIf caught in a battle it cannot escape, the dark fuzz will pick one opponent, and focus on that opponent. They’ll usually focus on spellcaster first; typically clerics, with the poisonous bite focused on either Con or Dex damage.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifAugmented Critical: A dark fuzz’s bite attack has a critical threat range of 19-20/x2, except as follows.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifThe amount of poison damage dealt by a critical hit is tripled, rather then doubled. For example, on a successful critical hit, a dark fuzz would deal 2d4 plus 3d4+3 points of ability damage.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifCharm (Su): Upon seeing the dark fuzz, all living creatures must make a Will saving throw (DC 18) or come under the effect of a charm monster spell, except the effect lasts for one week. Any creature affected by this ability believes the dark fuzz to be an adorable kitten, and refuses to believe otherwise, possibly becoming violent if its new ‘pet’ is harmed or threatened. A creature that makes its saving throw cannot be affected by this ability for 24 hours. The saving throw is Charisma based.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifInsidious Knowledge (Ex): For every day the dark fuzz studies a target, the save DC against its poison increases by +1, and it gains a +1 insight bonus on attack rolls against that target. If the dark fuzz studies a single target for a full week, the ability damage the poison inflicts deals an additional 1d4. A dark fuzz may study only a single target at a time.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifPoison (Ex): A dark fuzz delivers its poison with a bite attack. Creatures must make a DC 17 Fortitude save or take 1d4+1 points of ability damage.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifAs a standard action, the dark fuzz may change the effect of its poison to better strike its target. It may change the poison to deal any form of ability damage, but it can only affect one target at a time.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifSkill Mastery (Ex): A dark fuzz may take always 10 on Tumble checks, even when threatened or in stressful conditions.
http://www.geocities.com/trebane2/pez/indent.gifSkills: A dark fuzz has a +10 racial bonus on Tumble checks when entering or leaving an opponent’s square.

The dark fuzz is named after someone I know on the D&Donline games forum. I created the monster as a homage to him.

I dunno, I'm torn about this one. I don't find the idea of using such a monster fair. They see a cute kitten and suddenly it's killing everyone? Or they see a little orphan girl and it turns into a black dragon and eats them? Wow, never stood a chance.

On the other hand, I do find it funny and it is well thought out. I do like the idea of clever monsters that use their appearance to catch people off guard. I just don't know if I feel right using it in most situations. I guess that might be part of my problem. When I made my last dungeon map, I gave it a pink marble floor and made spots with traps on them slightly redder.

Awesome. I love it, sounds like what I've always imagined cats might secretly be. Sneaky little hunters planning to kill us...

Looks good to me.
