Falling while flying.

Are there any official rules concerning falling while falling, and more specifically catching one's self from said fall? I seem to recall there being a rule that said something along the lines of "make make a DC 25 reflex save or fall 300 ft, repeat every round until a successful save is made or the creature hits the ground, whichever comes first," but I have no idea where I'd find this rule if it does indeed exist.
I'd appreciate any information/sources of information concerning flight beyond the basic chart concerning flight maneuverability.
