I was wondering if there was any potential to build a character who specializes in killing utilizing the Stygian Slayer archetype and assassin prc and if so how one would go about optimizing the two?

The two classes are very similar, and with the right talents, a slayer can get all of the features of the assassin minus the ability to prevent resurrection. Assassin can be taken at level 6, earlier than the slayer can get assassinate(10 for normal slayers, 12 for stygian), which is a better ability than the assassins death attack. Poison use is meh, and if you really want it slayer can get that too. If you can hold out, just stay slayer and assassinate later. Get ranger combat styles to fit whatever weapon style you want to use(ranged is good for assassinations), a bonus feat from combat trick, maybe weapon focus, then assassinate. Getting spell use to use wands/scrolls of sneak spells is fantastic, and with gaseous form sneaking in to kill people is easy.
