"I don't care they stole my idea...
I care they don't have any of their own" Nikola Tesla

The Efev̱réti̱s

In the dawning twilight of the universe there was an idea. That idea became the first invention, Story. From that first story spawned more until finally their were mighty rivers and masses made of the stories. Then a story had an idea, Independence. With the independence spawned the first Titans. Then one titan though of something new, and the law givers came forth. The final idea was not final at all but a revelation of the idea itself and thus hypothesis bread each other titan forward.

Creator’s Mythos: An Efev̱réti̱s’s power is expressed in terms of one or more "Mythos", the building blocks of the legend that they are, and the stories that they have told and will tell. While any given Mythos varies from the rest, they share some similar traits. They are always Extraordinary abilities, and when they reference a difficulty class for an imposed saving throw, that saving throw is always calculated as (10 + 1/2 class level + Intelligence modifier, unless otherwise stated). When a Mythos references a "level" that is not clearly defined in some other way, such as "character level", it refers to "class level" as in the number of levels one has in the Efev̱réti̱s class. When a Mythos references "allies", it specifically does not refer to the Efev̱réti̱s using it. When a Mythos grants a feat as a bonus feat, it is regardless of whether the character meets the prerequisites for that feat (unless otherwise stated), and if the character already possesses that feat (in some permanent fashion - via the normal allotment gained by leveling up, or through another Mythos, and so on, but not those gained temporarily, such as via a "Heroics" spell), they must replace the prior instance of that feat with another feat that they qualify for.

Every Mythos has a Tier. The Tier of a Mythos ranges from 1 to 4, typically referred to as Exceptional, Fantastic, Legendary, and Exalted. Exceptional Mythos tell the story of talented craftsman innovating new milling method or a man shaping a wheel for the first time. An Efev̱réti̱s with Fantastic Mythos is has gained the powers of a true genius, while the common tinker crafts marvels of mechanical complexity the Efev̱réti̱s makes power supplies the size of your hand. The world around them is more advanced due to the "Trinkets". Their cause is known and through the Efev̱réti̱s’s marvels other know their cause. A Legendary Efev̱réti̱s takes the world as his playground every tree an handle to be crafted every iron vein a plate of steel yet to be refined and they will make it all. They guide the future marvel and magnificence. An Exalted Efev̱réti̱s is a legend eveyone knows their name as they brought forth the enlightenment of an empire or hid their marvels from the world but no one ever sees them, or every one does. Legions of mechanical monster, Iron clad warriors, or an entire city forged on the back of a great walking machine. Not only are they the shield of the weak against corruption but they are the champion of their ideals.

Some Mythos, in addition to their initial stated effect, have Basic and Advanced manifestations. When an Efev̱réti̱s gains access to a Mythos with a list of Basic manifestations, they may choose one such manifestation, and they gain that benefit immediately as well. This choice may not be changed later. When an Efev̱réti̱s gains access to a Mythos with a list of Advanced manifestations, they may choose one such manifestation, and they gain that benefit upon achieving their next level of Efev̱réti̱s. This choice may be changed at any point before receiving the chosen manifestation itself, but not after (choosing beforehand is just a easy way to mark it down on your character sheet so you don't forget that you'll be getting something later).

Mythos Known: A 1st level Efev̱réti̱s begins play with two Exceptional Mythos that he qualifies for if this is his first level in a PC character class. At higher levels, he gains additional Mythos as noted on the Efev̱réti̱s class table.

For characters that multiclass into Efev̱réti̱s after having taken levels in another PC character class, the 1st level of Efev̱réti̱s grants only a single Exceptional Mythos, rather than two.

An Efev̱réti̱s also has the ability to learn more Mythos, above the ones automatically allotted to him by leveling up, by pursuing theoretical development at the expense of practical development. The exact method varies for each Efev̱réti̱s; some destroy the great works of others(You may not have had a hand in its creation), others teach forging plans for the benefit of large organizations, some provide massive monuments to themselves only to feed their own ego, while still others relinquish great works of their hand to lesser men so they might understand his marvels. In all cases, the Efev̱réti̱s must somehow lose gold or items, in such a way that does not otherwise mechanically benefit him or his allies, with the understanding that he will never attempt to reclaim what was lost (otherwise, the sacrifice would mean nothing, and therefore yield no enlightenment). He then gains Mythos Points equal to the gold piece value of the currency or items removed.

By spending 1,000 Mythos Points, and 250xp, an Efev̱réti̱s may learn an Exceptional Mythos. A Fantastic Mythos requires 5,000 Mythos Points and 500xp. A Legendary Mythos takes 10,000 Mythos Points, and 1,000xp. And an Exalted Mythos takes 20,000 Mythos Points and 2,000xp.

For half the listed price for a given Tier, an Efev̱réti̱s may learn a Basic or Advanced manifestation of a Mythos they already know of that Tier.

Learning Mythos above the standard amount requires astounding, nearly single-minded devotion to the story of the Efev̱réti̱s. One may only utilize this ability while more than half of his effective character level (ECL) is devoted to levels in the Efev̱réti̱s class.

Innovator's Excellence: As denoted on their class table, an Efev̱réti̱s gains a certain number of abilities known as "Excellencies". These tend to be more general, generic, and passive than a Mythos, but are useful nonetheless, and are drawn from their own separate list, unsegregated by Tiers. Like a Mythos, an Efev̱réti̱s may learn more Excellencies above their allotted amount. Each one costs 1,000 Mythos Points and 100xp, plus an additional 1,000 Mythos Points and 100xp for each time a new Excellency is innovated beyond the first. (So, 2,000mp and 200xp for the second, 3,000mp and 300xp for the third, etc.)

Impossibility Engine: The first invention is a power source that can be used to fuel al the future inventions. This invention is a small device they keep with them at all times. The engine provides 5 charge per class level. Charge can be allocated between devices as a swift action. If charge is expended the device, mythos, or excellency will define the recovery timeframe. You may invest 1 power into any item you have crafted to reduce its malfunction rating to 1.

Malfunction Rating: All items have a malfunction rating, it is normally rolling a 1 on a die. However, the process of refining technology comes with inherent dangers. The process of refining these dangers is what defines invention. When creating a device the inventor may increase the malfunction rating of the item to increase the number of mods they can apply to the the item by 1 per additional malfunction rating.

Black Powder Inquisition
Prerequisite: Craft(Firearm) 4 ranks

The efev̱réti̱s discovers the magic of gunpowder and a barrel. You may make exotic weapons called firearms listed on the table below. Additionally gain a competence bonus to craft(Firearms) checks equal to your class level.
A charge may be expended instead of a ammo for a firearm. The charge is recovered after 5 minutes of rest.

Name TypeDamage Range IncrementDamage TypeCritical HPWeight reloadMRSound PenaltyCharge Cost
Rifle Two-Handed 2d8 50ft Piercing x4 30HP 100lb full round 2 -15 Str 15, 30 move speed, -2 ACP
Pistol Light 2d4 10ft Piercing x4 20HP 50lb full round 2 -10 STR 13, Dex 12, 30 move speed, -2 ACP

Advanced
Marksmanship: When using a firearm you crafted gain +1 to hit. At the 5th level and every 4 levels thereafter increase the bonus by 1.
Cartridge: You may apply the Cartridge mod to a firearm. This mod reduces the reload time by 1 step to a minimum of swift action.
Magazine: You may apply the Magazine mod to a firearm that is also being effected by the Cartridge mod.

Hand-Held Doom Machine
Prerequisite: Craft(Laser Weapon) 4 ranks

The efev̱réti̱s discovers more effective ways to generate rays of energy. When crafting weapons that deal damage you have the basic manifestation for add your Intelligence modifier to your Max Tech Score. Additionally gain a competence bonus to craft checks equal to your class level when dealing with energy you have the basic manifestation for.

Basic
A key and a Kite: This mythos now applies to Electricity based technology.
I Like it When They Melt: This mythos now applies to Acid based technology.
Ice cube gun: This mythos now applies to Cold based technology.
Mayhem in a Box: This mythos now applies to Chaos Energy based technology.
Roman Candle: This mythos now applies to Fire based technology.
Sick Sound System: This mythos now applies to Sonic based technology.

Pockets of Dimensions
Prerequisite: -

Cog Master Kindertwik began work right away before long he had fashioned a man sized sling shot, "From random objects in his pocket" he said. Sork asked "Where'd he get the chair?"

From now on all of the efev̱réti̱s pockets counts as pocket dimensions holding Int Mod + Class Level pounds. These pocket dimensions loose there connection to the material when the clothing is 5 or more feet away from the efev̱réti̱s. Additionally the efev̱réti̱s may perform a search check DC equal to craft DC -5, to reduce the craft cost of any superior item by 25/level gold.

"Robots Are a Boy's Best Friend"
Prerequisite: Steam and Roar Juggernaut, juggernaut chassis or man of iron chassis, Craft(Automaton) 4 ranks

The efev̱réti̱s discovers how to infuse a frame, mechanized haul and a computer to make mans best friend. When crafting automatons add your Intelligence modifier to your Max Tech Score. Additionally gain a competence bonus to craft(Automaton) and Use Technological Device checks equal to your class level.

When crafting an automation you may apply up to 5 + class level to the automatons base ability scores. The modifications to base ability score are applied after all other calculations. IE Lozdrin is a level 4 efev̱réti̱s with +4 int modifier and crafts an automaton, he would have a MTS of 8, he could give his automaton STR 8, Dex 2, Con -, Int 1, Wis 2, Cha 1. Now he decides he wants to have it be a little stronger and understand more complex commands and talk, along with making it move around a little better. So he adds STR 10(+2), Dex 6(+4), Con -, Int 4(+3), Wis 2, Cha 1. Now even though he has a Int 4 which normally would be a TS 20 it is only treated as TS 5 because 3 come form this mythos.

Steam and Roar Juggernaut
Prerequisite: Craft(Mechanized Armor) 4 ranks

The efev̱réti̱s discovers how to forge suits of machine armor. When crafting mechanized armor add your Intelligence modifier to your Max Tech Score. Additionally gain a competence bonus to craft (Mechanized Armor) and Use Technological Device checks equal to your class level in regards to Mechanized Armors. While wearing armor you may use your STR or the armors whichever is greater. When taking damage while in Mechanized Armor half the damage is absorbed by the armor, When the mechanized armor hits 0hp it gains the broken condition, all powered functions cease, additionally half of ACP applies to attack rolls. Each basic manifestation reflects a basic chassis design, the Suit must still be crafted. Upon creation you must choose a power supply you have the mythos for, using any other power supply requires a special upgrades and is often very inefficient. All Mechanize Armors have a base market value of 150g. Machine Armor consumes power every minute of Powered Operation. The amount of power consumed is equal to the armor's TS.

Analytical [Skill] Overmastery
Prerequisite: 1 rank in chosen class skill

The efev̱réti̱s over thinks everything, like seriously over thinks everything. Thinking it over one late night it strikes you, you were a total fool. All skill points are reallocated to the free pool and you may immediately spend them in other skills. From now on you gain 1 skill point per day you spend 1 hour pondering the skill until you reach the cap. Upon level up the skill automatically gains 1 skill rank.

Arcano Gyroscopic Energy Extractor
Prerequisite: CL 1 or 1 rank in Use Magic Device
[Power Supply]
Arcano Gyroscopic Energy Extractor drains the magical essence from a magic item. The extractor can claim the magic essence from an item and turn it into raw Magika at a rate of 5+TS per round. A magic item provides magika equal to the market value of the item. As the item is used it loses gold value equal to magika extracted from it. Magika functions perfectly for psi tech, +50% energy cost for non Soul Tech, +200% cost for Soul Tech.

If the item has charges similar to a wand it loses a charge the moment its cost is reduced and keeps losing charges when ever it reaches a marker of (Base Market Value/Max Charges). IE a wand worth 750g has 50 charges would lose 1 charge at 749>734>719...599>584>...29>14.

If the item has a graduating value like +1 flaming longsword it would lose value and power at the appropriate tiers along the table the lost bonuses would happen when the Market Value reached below the bonus cost.

If the item fits none of the previous categories loses caster levels at a rate of 1 Caster Level per ((Base Market Value/Base Caster Level)+1) gold lost. If the item loses half its base caster levels it ceases to function.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Prerequisite:
[Power Supply]
The efev̱réti̱s discovers how combustion engines work and the magnificent fuels that can power them. Each basic manifestation represents a different variety of fuel. Each fuel has its own strong points, but all fuels must be stored in a water tight container to ensure contamination doesn't happen. Mechanical energy cannot power non mechanical devices however with the right modifications

Oil: Oil engines produce 3+1/ts mechanical energy/round, and burns at a rate of 1 oz per min.
Diesel: Diesel engines produce 2+2/ts mechanical energy/round, and burns at a rate of 1 oz per round.
Gasoline: Gasoline engines produce 5+1/ts mechanical energy/round, and burns at a rate of 1 oz per round.
Goblin Rocket Fuel: Goblin Rocket Fuel engines produce 20+4/ts mechanical energy/round, and burns at a rate of 2 oz per round.
Alchemist's Fire: Alchemist's Fire engines produce 10+2/ts mechanical energy/round, and burns at a rate of 1 oz per round.
Ethanol: Ethanol engines produce 7+1/ts mechanical energy/round, and burns at a rate of 1 oz per round.

Clockwork Calamity Gear
Prerequisite:
[Power Supply]
Clockwork Gears

Engine of "i"
Prerequisite:
[Power Supply]
Chaos energy generator

"LOOK MA! NO HANDS!"
Prerequisite: -

"Point and Fire, Right?"
Prerequisite: -

The tinker gains Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot feats.

Pylon of Psychoactive Energy Assimilation
Prerequisite: Power Point Reserve
[Power Supply]
A Pylon of Psychoactive Energy Assimilation can hold 20+10/ts psi and generates 1 psi energy per hour. Additionally by for every 1pp spent the generator gains 10 Psi energy. Psi energy can power any system with the right adapter, however it powers crystal based technology best. Pylons have a base market value of 500g

Soul Induction Infinity Engine
Prerequisite:
[Power Supply]

This soul burning engine inflicts 1 con drain on the user per min active producing produces 20+5/ts soul energy per round for 1 min, Storing 100+25/TS energy. Excess soul energy bleeds off into the user's soul causing them to become staggered as long as the soul energy is bleeding off. Soul energy functions perfectly regardless of the base technology. Soul engines have a base market value of 3000g

Void Krystal Energy Generator
Prerequisite: Power Point Reserve
[Power Supply][Psionic]

Void Krystal Energy Generator can hold 10+5/ts psi and generates 1 psi energy per round. Additionally for every 1pp spent the generator gains 5 Psi energy. Psi energy can power any system with the right adapter however it powers crystal based technology best. Void Krystal Energy Generator have a base market value of 500g

Copy pasted from AGIOS hadn't changed for tinker yet. Now its tinker flavored.

Each mythos for the most part is going to be based around either crafting a specific style of item form Power Armor to Firearms. Likely going to add a few for basic range attack feats but mostly those will be limited as they are not the focus of most tinkers its more the pursuit of "bigger boom".

I would suggest against using real-life people as Mythos Banner characters, since (as far as we know) there really wasn't such a thing in reality, alongside causing it to pigeonhole actual, living, breathing humans as archetypes and over-broad generalizations.

Overall, I am feeling a little uninspired by the class so far. The abilities are mostly just spitballs and not fully fleshed-out yet, and while several other people were suggesting the idea of making a similar class you ended up claiming it without actually having much to show for it. I sincerely hope that the class ends up well-done, since it is a good concept; however, at the moment, it looks rather flat and, forgive my rudeness, more akin to "I posted this to claim it as mine" rather than having any reasonable amount of it completed.

I am trying to help Lanth make it appear on the boards, he gets ahead of him self on his posting and idea sprees. I'm already working a play test of it with him. He has the base technology system already made, he just skipper posting it for now, I'm guessing he will be putting up its Google document soon, or adding a table for it.

Adam it was more intended to not lose my definition of technology in everyone else's Artificer. I strongly implore someone to make the Artificer as it would be a great class but my idea is magic only if you can. Like using distilled arcane energy or a Everturning Gear your friendly neighborhood wizard enchanted for you. The most important thing is the ingenuity of the class, ATM i don't have the Broad mechanics displayed because it is published by Sword and Sorcery and I'm really unsure of copyright and stuff. The system is something 95% of the world doesn't even know exists.(over generalization based on no Facts)

TLDR; The post was to set the stage for the focus not step on toes or dissuade other tinkers, because i strongly believe the magi tinker is a thing its just not what I was making.

Due to the extensive nature of each mythos's rules i do not plan on this being qualified as complete for awhile. Hopefully i don't break the rules like I normally do when making a tinker.

So I read through the technology rules that you are (modifying/using?). You need to come up with four kinds of ratings/numbers before finally reaching a skill check. I mean, it's certainly very flexible, but I don't really see it as being very mythos friendly.

I feel like you'd do better if you at least made the system a little more your own, rather than just linking to an exact text from another RPG book.

Reading your first mythos: I don't know what Psi-Tech is, I don't know what Soul-Tech is, and I'm forced to hope that definitions lie ahead.

Also: How do you set TS for the Tinker? How is it calculated? What FD is a "Arcano Gyroscopic Energy Extractor"? The mythos seems to act like it's an object, but gives me no idea what sort of object it is, or how to interact with it. Can I make more than one, or am I limited in some way?

I don't understand why you're using this technology system since, unlike in the medium the tech system is set, your class isn't getting the right to ask the DM to make stuff- they have listed access to predetermined objects, but they're gonna have to try to fit those into the tech system and I'm not even sure where to begin with that. Like, do I need to decide on a time rank for my Energy Extractor?

I mean, I like the direction this is going in, because it looks like you'll be able to put a bunch of parts together lego-style and make something wonderful, but I'm confused by the implementation.

Adam1949
2015-07-14, 04:22 AM
I agree with Zale on most everything they mentioned, with an additional question/concern: By adding on the technology rules, the class is even MORE complex by needing to know both it and the Mythos rules/ideas/concepts. To me, trying to mix the two would be better served by making a Technology-using class, and then a Prestige class to mix it and a different Mythos class. As is, it's very confusing to figure out what to do or what you can do.

Lanth Sor
2015-07-14, 09:15 AM
I do apologies i have alot of work to do I've been using the tech system for a long time and this i part of an attempt to unbreak it. Yes the class is far from complete. As for the confusion on the power supply, so far all mythos are schematics ill add that descriptor so its clear. As of right now the base rules are intended as a point of reference more than focus as they are were some of the problem with the system lies. Using special materials also breaks the system fast. The put out a book on steam armor that massively nerfed their potential because they realized how busted the system was but that was it. The goal of each mythos will be to present a reasonable way to make each style of item with in a set of rules that doesn't end in out shining the wizard with your auto attack at lvl3-20, actually had this happen where i had to down scale my tech.

Things to come mechanics wise:

Rework of Market Value determination(Rather certain ill be putting a solid gold value to TS or Exponential effect based on TS, other options will be considered)
Craft cost is definitely a problem. ATM it 1/3 market value which is fine by plain logic but Scavenger for tinker and Pockets of Dimensions Efevreti allows for free bullets so really cheap weapons isn't practical from a balance stand point considering the power one weapon can have.

The main things I'm looking for ATM are advice on where you see the core mechanics Abuseable that i haven't pointed out. For instance i had a 5d8 750ft range increment sniper rifle with +5 to hit +2 dex +20 stealth and it cost me like 500g the Thorium bullets were free all by lvl 6.

Which book is it in? All the Sword & Sorcery game material is Open Game Content, you only need to put a copy of the Open Gaming License with the copied content, specify which part of the content is OGC and which isn't (since the license only allows you to copy the OGC part, not the product identity part), and add the copyright notices from the book at the end of the license.

You won't like it.
Hopefully my spoiler works to condense the text wall.

Not very "unborked" yet, I don't think. So just under your rules of tech shenanigans:
1. What's the DC to avoid a malfunction, it says you can make a check but doesn't say what kind of DC needs to be beaten.
2. What does
Any device has a craft DC base Tier DC + TR - (2 x [MR-1]) even mean?
Craft DC base tier DC plus tech rating minus the quantity of two times the quantity of the malfunction rating minus one. Like what?
Are you trying to say a thing has a base crafting DC of your mythos DC +the objects tech rating - double one less than the malfunction rating?
3. Non magic crafting takes years to complete, if you are making something that costs about as much as adamantine full plate last time I did the math it would take you 7.6 years to complete. Most campaigns have better things to do than sit while you make something they could afford to buy in 3 weeks.
4. Market value, is that based off of the cost of the materials? Like how adamantine is X hundred gold per pound?
5. You need to fix the wording on all of the mythos you have done. Fire arms for example says you have a base tech limit of int mod plus class level to damage? Do you get your int mod and class level to damage with those things you make? Armor has the same issue except it goes even further to try and bring in secondary and tertiary functions and doesn't explain them very well.the armor table also contradicts its self, some things say you have a move speed penalty as if in heavy/medium armor and then you have a set move speed. You also have a sound penalty and then one says no sound penalty.
