To get an awesome mount or so? :) Capture a dire bear, cast awaken, treat said dire bear nicely for the 30 days the spell
lasts and after aswell ofc and you will most likely have a quite cool mount/companion? :)

Alternatively, awaken a tree, and receive Groot.

Oh cripe, what about a mouse, or a stone? Can you awaken a small stone? He would make an excellent spy. You could awaken a brick if you could awaken a stone. Or (And this is me, pushing it) you could awaken a magic item. Even just a mundane sword, for laughs (expensive ones, but still). Oh, Lilarcor...!

Only works on living things with INT 0-3 that is a animal or plant. :)

You could awaken a spider. It might not live long, depending on what type you awaken, but that ****er'd make a hell of a spy.

is there a version of awaken for non-living things?

You could always create the singing bush from three amigos!

this, or any other "spying creature" application could be much more easily and effectively facilitated by the find familiar spell.

I think awaken is far more suited to creating intelligent mounts that you can communicate with.

You could Awaken a Beast Master's companion. And then convince somebody in the group to take the Inspiring Leader feat and buff the companion's HP along with the rest of the party.

Bonus points if the Inspiring Leader is a Paladin that can boost the beast's Saving Throws.

Super bonus points if that Paladin has the magic damage reduction aura from the Oath of the Ancients.
