Blessings - your stories, and new ones

Hi all - so I'm considering a Blessing for one of my players. Before I press ahead with that though, I wanted to test the waters with you: what are your views on them? Anything I need to know? Have you used them, and if so how did it turn out?

Secondly, I was thinking about Blessings other than the ones in the DMG. They all seem to have the same effect as a magic item, but with no actual item. Can I just approach them that way?

I thought blessings (and Epic Boons by extension) were a wasted opportunity by WotC to utilize attunement apart from the magic item system. So while I haven't used them yet, I would make them require attunement if they replicate the effects, or offer an effect with a similar approximate power, of a magic item that also required attunement. In fact, they should all require attunement in my opinion (all permanent magic items and blessings).

I guess that's my long-winded way of saying yes, I would treat them like magic items.
