can you have negative modifiers to saving throws, like if you're a first level fighter with an 8 wisdom and a 0 base will save, would your total will save modifier be -1?

thanks, sorry for the noob question.

Yes, you can negative modifiers on saves, as well as many other d20 rolls (skill checks, attack rolls, etc.)

Can you have a negative AC?Yes. Colossal with 4 dex would give you -1 AC (in the absence of other modifiers).

I'd love to see one of my players go against one of those and roll a 1, and laugh in their face, because unless you have 3 strength (-4) and are using a huge dire-maul (-12) as a lvl 1 wizard, you should be able to hit that AC, though it'd be hilarious to make a character who uses a weapon like that as a wizard... true strike!! ::roll to hit:: wtf a 1!?!?!

A 1 should always be a miss, just like how a 20 is always a hit.

Shock trooping ragers often drop their AC into the negatives.

But can you truly hit a negative AC? Consider this, if you will - Do you ever hit the man who practucally pulls your weapon into himself, or does he make you hit him. Since, I'd think that's what a negative would represent - Someone forcing an attack on themselves, rather than attempting to defend.

Thus, you don't hit him, he hits himself, using you.

Or, perhaps, the universe implodes, since the creatues negative AC causes a rupture in the vulnerability of space.

Yes! it's the classic "My face to Your foot" style, I'm bleeding, clearly making me the victor! - I win!

"What are they doing??!!"

"They're using their faces to attack her fists it seems, sir. A very non-standard technique that."

Rolling a one against someone with a negative AC would represent the pinnacle of failure, no matter who is attacking.

It's something along the lines of giving yourself a tracheotomy while brushing your teeth.

I believe damage is the only thing you can't go negative on. I think it even bottoms out at 1 instead of 0. I could be wrong.

Damage bottoms out at 1 unless DR is applied, in which case it can be reduced to 0.

A Great Wyrm Red Dragon has -11 AC... (MM, AD&D)

...Not really. They have a Dex of 10, so there's no penalty, and they have +39 Natural Armor, so the minus 8 for size is pretty easily negated. Try 41.

They have a Touch AC of 2, but that's a horse of a different color.

Ah, the good old days, when AC could never go below -10 unless you were a god. I rember those days fondly.

On that note, I find it hilarious that you could roll a 1 and fail to hit a 72+ ft long dragon. Seriously, that's even bigger than the broad side of a barn, and everyone misses 5% of the time?

aparently everyone has arthritus (sp?) 5% of the time, and is to weak to do any damage for a few seconds. sometimes this results in the throwing of swords, or in the case of a buddy of mine, a max damage crossbow bolt to the hind end.

Ah well, you have obviously never faced off against a Dragon; their speed belies their size...
