Reading the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook, I noticed that the Chamber of Speed(page 75) has an interesting description. It casts a continuous haste spell on anyone inside, which I am not entirely clear on for out of combat actions, but it also says,

"Most tasks can be completed in about half the normal time."

Wait, what? Does this mean I can throw a Dedicated Wright into a Chamber of Speed and craft things in half the time? How does this work? If anyone has any rulings on this I'd love to hear them, because currently this looks like a very abuse-able room for only 15,000 gp.

It says most which leaves it up to DM interpretation, but even if it does work I can't see it being too worth it with a dedicated wright. Crafting is still limited by 1000 gp worth of work a day isn't it? So if it did apply to magic item crafting then it would just cut the eight hour craft time to four hours and take the same number of days.

Eenteresting.
I have not heard this rule, and we have not been playing with it so far.
I had been planning to use a combination of the Maester class, Exceptional Artisan, and a few other tricks to make a speed-demon Artificer. Ah well. :smallannoyed:

Here's the relevant quote from the d20srd. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/creatingMagicItems.htm) The important parts are in bold for ease and emphasis.

The creator also needs a fairly quiet, comfortable, and well-lit place in which to work. Any place suitable for preparing spells is suitable for making items. Creating an item requires one day per 1,000 gp in the item’s base price, with a minimum of at least one day. Potions are an exception to this rule; they always take just one day to brew. The character must spend the gold and XP at the beginning of the construction process.

The caster works for 8 hours each day. He cannot rush the process by working longer each day. But the days need not be consecutive, and the caster can use the rest of his time as he sees fit.

A character can work on only one item at a time. If a character starts work on a new item, all materials used and XP spent on the under-construction item are wasted.

Thank you very much for the rule :)

However, what does this mean for the Maester class, or the Exceptional Artisan feat? How would those work out?

Maester specifically allows you to craft at 2000 gp per day. With the chamber of haste you'd do 2000 gp worth of work in 4 hours, if allowed. Exceptional artisan affects the total time, so what would normally take 36 days with exceptional artisan would only take 27 days. In both cases the number of days required stays the same, but if the DM rules that the chamber of haste works then the hours per day required is cut in half.
