Pteranodon: AL Legal?

As the title. The PHB states "Choose a beast that is no larger than medium and that has a challenge rating of 1/4 or lower." I can't see why this wouldn't include the pteranodon, which is clearly medium, and has a challenge rating of 1/4. It does not specify that the beast need be from the MM appendix.

I'm not sure it changed so much as it was finally clarified by AL admins after conferring with WotC staff.

On the plus side, a giant wolf spider riding gnome ranger is still OK :)

As is apparently the Vulture, so if you want a flying mount for your gnome or halfling, there's your pick. Just be sure to keep total weight, including gear, at 100lbs or less as they're somewhat light on Str. Might be one of the only situations where the amount of ammo you carry with you starts to actually matter.

I have a hand crossbow, crossbow specialist. She burns through ammo like nobody's business. Not a problem in Expeditions where I get to regear but in Encounters it can be a long time between visits to the fletcher.

Isn't that Adventurer's League only, though? It's not like I can't be a CE character in my normal group because AL rules say I can't.

not really. any time pixies get involved in combat where they're used under the assumption the CR is correct, they will break the game.

the problem is not that you can summon pixies. i mean, i can summon 8 wolves without breaking anything, right? i can summon 8 of all kinds of different CR 1/4 or less creatures without causing problems.

the pixie problem is that they should be higher CR than they are (precisely where is not clear, somewhere between CR 1/2 and CR 1; personally, i favour CR 1 but that's just me). and remains unfixed.
