Coruscant, 28 BBY...

Though some members of the group preferred to avoid the place, the profit margin of hauling certain materials and passengers to Coruscant had been too high to ignore. They had encountered space pirates on the way and fought them off, but had sustained some damage to their precious vessel. Repairs were now nearly complete and they were looking for the next adventure.

Most of them tended to do their own thing after each job, going their separate ways to fulfill whatever personal desires each had. But they always seemed to gather together again to join forces and find another mission. The Starfighter pilot who had so far accompanied them on most missions was often a good source of potentially profitable ventures. Johl was a former Jedi who owned his own Starfighter, and was an ace in space battles! He had turned to the Dark Side some time ago and usually avoided many places here like the plague to avoid discovery. This often led him to the lower city, where he usually discovered risky but profitable possibilities for the group to consider.

This trip was no exception, and Johl soon contacted each group member through their shared and encrypted comlink network to meet him in one of his favorite cantinas of dubious repute. Sitting with another concealed individual in the back corner of the place, he contacted each of his associates telepathically to lead them in the right direction once they entered. Both of them wore voluminous dark robes with deep hoods pulled up to conceal their identity from the other patrons. Once the group had gathered Johl led them to a private room to discuss business.

The other person revealed himself once they reached the room, an albino human! Odd indeed, though not unheard of in the galaxy. This one exuded an odd dark power and spoke in a hoarse tone barely above a whisper, “Greetings all, I have a job that may interest you. It will be dangerous, and the journey itself may prove beyond your abilities or willingness. Due to the nature of that which is sought I cannot initially reveal all the details, but suffice it to say it will be very profitable to all of you upon completion. You will travel to the edge of the galaxy, far beyond civilization, and investigate a rumored source of great power and wealth. If you agree, we will rendezvous in the outer rim, where I will reveal the remainder of the details. Whatever other business arrangements you can make for that trip I leave to you. I strongly suggest you stock up on food, water, and whatever materials you believe you might need for the entire trip before leaving Coruscant.

The total pay is 10,000 credits for each of you, in whatever form of wealth you prefer. One quarter of this total will be paid up front, another quarter will be paid upon meeting in the outer rim, and the remainder to be collected upon completion. There are also bonuses possible, depending on the level of success, and potential royalties to be paid in the future as well.”

Johl smiled at his companions and added enthusiastically, “I thought this might be a grand adventure that will take us far from the normal hustle and hassles of the galaxy and prove a source of great satisfaction in the near and distant future. We can pick up some cargo here, possibly more passengers too, and make a little side profit on our journey as well.”

"Johl, do you trust this person?" so let me get this straight 2,500 now just for talking to you, another 2,500 just for showing up on an unnamed backwater outerrim planet, and then the rest when and if we get this unknown deal achieved with a possible bonus..I may need a week or two; Johl you know where to reach me.

The Zabrak leaning on the wall near the door uncrossed his arms and called for attention with a wave.

"Color me interested sir. And I understand secrecy. I sure do.

But are there going to be any particulars we'll wish we had known about when we get there, equipment wise? Atmo, terrain, rough nature of the work to be done? Ferr instance, what if we need to transport living cargo/ Corrosive?"

Quey crossed his arms again.

We don't need to know your sleeve size, just generalities. Sir."

Johl shrugged and flashed her a crooked smile, "I trust him as a business partner."

The albino also smiled and seemed genuinely entertained as he replied, "If you agree to the job, which I will consider a contract, then you get the advance payment. The rest, you understand perfectly."

The albino nodded, "And I understand wanting to be prepared. Very wise indeed, sir.

The atmosphere will not be an issue generally. But it is a primitive planet and there may be areas where dangerous gasses and other environmental elements could present a challenge. I believe there will be no cold environments, as planet is primarily covered in thick jungle. You will very likely have to deal with oppressive heat and humidity, various flora and fauna, and possibly primitive natives. You may well encounter creatures you believe might be valued elsewhere, so preparations to transport captured living beings would also be wise for ambitious entrepreneurs.

Terrain varies widely, so be prepared for anything, there is a vast area to be searched.

What I desire that you bring back is not dangerous, but it may not be easy to find or extract. You may need some mining equipment, but that is not certain. All I require initially are some samples. Whatever else you discover there is yours to keep."

He looked around to see if there were any other questions or concerns.

Quey grins broadly at his new employer.

Thank you sir. No more questions for me.

This guy really wants this item. If I'm right, giving him exactly what he wants is going to go to the upper end of five figures. Time to go the extra mile here. I wonder how much mining equipment costs?

The albino cocked his head a little to the side as his red eyes gazed intently at Hawkeye for a moment. He looked slightly perplexed for a few seconds, then shrugged, "I am uncertain what else you desire to know. There is more information I will reveal once we rendezvous in the outer rim, but there is little else I can tell you now. Perhaps if you have something specific you wish to know, I can accommodate you?"

well the outer rim areas are full of space hazards for one, & knowing what planet it is we are meeting you on to get this further information is most important.

I'll probably invest in the disguise skill as well,
and use the holo in conjunction with a mundane disguise.

Cora wasn't overly interested in the mission details. The fact that the job was on the down-low, and the client wanted to keep it that way meant she probably wasn't going to get any good information here. However, she speaks up in a disgruntled tone, "Bonuses, Royalties. That doesn't mean squat unless we agree on an amount before we take on the job. I'm not going to argue over price after we do the work. That's just bad business." She visibly relaxes before she says, "We get a five percent commission on top of the fixed fee. After that, if you're feeling so generous, you can give us our variable bonuses like you wanted." Despite the tone the group knew well enough that her mood was just a part being played in a negotiation.

With a slightly wry grin, the albino replied, as if he was revealing his thought process to the conclusion, "I fail to understand why that is important, which is completely irrelevant. What matters is that you do. Many of you seem interested enough to agree to my terms, and I see little risk at this point in telling you. After all, I could easily change locations if you lot decide not to agree. Very well, I have arranged to meet you on Tatooine, the sooner the better."

Johl chuckled softly, "Ahhh, a favorite stop of many smugglers, bounty hunters, and other less than upright citizens of the galaxy. That gives us something tangible to work with too. I'm sure that is a primary reason she thought it important to know. Now we can better plan out our route and cargo."

Well folks, I will meet up with the rest of the crew in a day or three as there are things that need to be done to prep the ship. Good Day

Hawkeye will go visit one of the best known banks on the planet as she knows the stuff she needs will take more than the extra 2,500 the albino has given her.

Hello (loan person) I need a loan for my ship.
I would like to barrow 15,000
I understand the base intrest rate is at 25%; however I would like to get this down as much as I possibly can; - backstory as a possible source

Coruscant is a big planet, and all one city. The place they met the albino was far from any district where a reputable bank would be found. But a small fee of 50cr would allow Hawkeye to get to the financial district in a taxi speeder in about an hour.

The security screening room at the bank entrance checked everyone for weapons. Any weapons would need to be left there, to be collected upon exiting.

Loan officer (bank 1) Diplomacy (1d20+16)[19]

The loan officer nodded slightly, "I think we can agree to that, with the standard time frame for repayment of course. We need a signature on the contract and a DNA sample to complete the transaction."

The security screening room at the bank entrance checked everyone for weapons. Any weapons would need to be left there, to be collected upon exiting. This was a detailed scan and revealed the fact that Cora was a droid. However, this didn't seem to matter one bit when it came to admitting her. After all, many customers sent their droids to do their in person banking.

Did you pay for the taxi?
I edited to reflect the correct character, sorry!
Loan officer (bank 1) Sense Motive (1d20+16)[32]

"Ah yes, interest of 20%" The loan officer arched an eyebrow, "Though I am no theologist, I've never heard of such religious restrictions. I'm sorry, and we mean no offense by it, but that's one of the requirements for loans to living beings."

If agreed he pulled out a data pad, made an entry to show the lower interest rate, then slid it across for her to sign with the stylus attached by a cable. As she did he asked, "The stylus will take the DNA sample, all very painless I assure you. Would you like a separate credit chip for that amount, or would you prefer to put it on one you provide? There's no additional cost, our chips are encrypted with the highest security protocols, and have no circuitry to accept any additional credits beyond what is there."

left the meter running so I could get the ride back (110 Cr on my part should cover the taxi ride plus waiting)

The bank officer reached over and disconnected the stylus, then inserted a credit chip into the datapad. As it transferred the information he said, "The data pad is also yours, if you wish to keep it. It contains a copy of the terms of agreement and the specific details of this loan. The pad itself is encrypted so that only you can read it or use it, and it is currently incapable of accepting any more data. If you insert another credit chip it can deduct your payment, so there's no need for you to return to the bank, though you are more than welcome to pay in person. Once the loan is paid off we can wipe it clean and activate it again, a gift from the bank for your business."

As the pad beeped to indicate it was finished, he pulled out the credit chip and handed it to her, "If there's nothing else, enjoy your loan and have a nice day."

Cora forms a half-smile as the others seem to agree, glad that business is going well. Her hand bids Hawkeye a farewell as it looks like she's deemed business concluded. "Good. It seems like our captain likes you. Hopefully, it's a pleasure doing business." She offers a gloved handshake to the lady. "When do you need us in orbit? We'll take our time getting there so don't expect us to show up early."

Flashback: Some Time in the Past

This world had a certain air to it. It'd be burning her lungs slightly if she had any. Filth, pollution, and illicit activities are abundant in all areas. Nar Shaddaa is much like the city world of Coruscant. It's ruined, filthy cousin. She keeps alert, much like any local, as she enters a cantina in the Promenade.

She walks past the first couple tables of pazaak and sabacc, getting a feel for the place. Like an invisible guiding string, the business part of the bar pulls in those that are on the lookout for it. Almost as far away as you can get from the door, she stood in front of a veiled booth. Its thin nature, not even hiding the slug-like creature inside. A friend gave her the information that a new hutt was on the scene. From some old blood, he was young and not too important, yet, to do business with her. Her friend put in some words for Cora and, now, Cora is here, walking in on the bloated slug Durga Besadii Tai. Whether she's playing on his self-important or being respectful she gives him ownership of the conversation and lets him or his servants speak first.

Now that I've done my character's skills. I actually know my disguise skill. Cora's walking around disguise is DC 39 minus whatever penalties she gets (If I were to guess, it's -6).

Though he had several servants and slaves around, including a notorious young bounty hunter, Durga grinned broadly as Cora approached and spoke in thickly accented basic, "Greetings Cora, I was told you wanted to see me about a loan. My terms are simple, at least 20% paid back each month. The interest is high, 50%, unless you want more than 50,000, then it's only 40%. The penalties for default would be... consequential, and very likely irreversible. How much are you looking to borrow?"

Urok Dij'Olm, a minor noble from another planet, was here for some nefarious purposes and required such services. The pay was room and board at a very nice place, and the promise of fulfilling minor favors in the future if there should ever be a need. Quey escorted him through the lower city, a dangerous place, and had only one occasion to show his muscle.

A small group of humans accosted them on the first day. Most of them were teenagers thugs led by one scoundrel who could be no more than 20. Though they acted hostile and had weapons out, the leader demanded that they hand over whatever credit chips the pair possessed. Certainly an unfriendly attitude, but it was clear that the others followed their leader.

Speaking in Huttese, "Greetings Great Obesity, Lord Durga." Noting the rush, she raises the cage in her hand. A metal box sealed on all sides except for a viewing port the guards checked out earlier. Inside is a thick shelled insect of some kind, barely moving. The cage radiates heat as a small furnace keeps the box unimaginable hot inside. "It's one of the rare lifeforms on Queyta, a Qutar beetle." (2,000 cr for the beast & cage) "They're well adjust to their volcano homes and normal temperatures are quite deadly to them. When cooled they become extremely brittle, and I hear they just fall apart on the tongue. An experience for all of the sense I'm assured, and my gift to you." She hands the cage off to whoever will take it.

"I'm glad. I'm known. That will make things easier. I know about you too. I know you are looking to grow, and that my debt will support your endeavors. And, I will owe you greatly, and you will be paid greatly. In return, I will borrow as many credits as your fat gullet can swallow." She retorts her own remake by performing a common Hutt gesture for when they ask for too much (and sometimes used ironically to acknowledge Hutt life and self-awareness of their hedonistic nature). "The interest rates you've laid out are reasonable, and I acknowledge your skill in laying them. The payments, I request be of a significant sum, but a lower percent the more I owe you. I will give you your money back. If not, I'll volunteer to you such harrowing, piercing screams my own blood will curdle."

Cora is trying to play into Hutt culture and admiring his girth (and indirectly his wealth). She means what she says as a compliment though non-hutts might take her comments as an insult. Nor would some brave enough to compliment him in such a way. And, at the same time she is trying to establish herself as a similarly minded (corrupt) individual.

Durga chuckled softly and motioned one of his slaves to take the cage. Switching to Huttese he said, “Interesting turn of phrase, since I happen to know you have no blood. But there are things worse than blood curdling for your kind, yes?”

Pausing a moment to let what he just revealed about how much he knew of her sink in, the young Hutt continued, “As to the loan itself, I think a limit of 60,000 Republic credits is reasonable, for now. I'm assuming, of course, you want Republic credits in this deal. Since you show respect and understanding of our ways, I’ll set the interest at 35%, which will mean you owe me 81,000 credits. The first payment of 20,250 credits will be due in one month. Agreed?”

Noting once again his earlier rush, she decides to make their after-agreement talk short for her own sake. "It was a pleasure meeting you Great Obesity, Lord Durga." Durga took a credit chip out of a pouch, slipped it into a datapad he took from another pouch and transferred the 60,000 Republic credits to the chip. He handed it to a slave, who bowed and gave it to Cora as Durga said, "Pleasure doing business with you, so far. I do hope that continues. See you in a month, Cora."

Presuming Starmage's character, and possibly arccos' as well eventually post and agree, we can continue. If either has more to add we can always retro-post that.

The albino pulled out several credit chips and dealt them out, “We have a deal then. See you all on Tatooine. I should be there in a week.” He handed them what looked like an archaic little item; a piece of parchment with some writing in scrambled basic. But when anyone who had agreed to the deal looked at it the letters moved and coalesced in a clear description of a location on Tatooine written on it, “This is where we will meet. Though there is no particular rush, I would appreciate a swift journey on your part. I do have other business to attend.”

Johl looked at the paper, “I know this place, quite well actually. It should be no problem finding it, once we get to Tatooine.”

After everyone was satisfied with the details so far and agreed with the deal, the albino smiled as he stood, “Best of luck on your journey. See you soon.”

After the albino left and before anyone else did, Johl grinned broadly and said, “I invite everyone to join me for dinner, my treat. Tonight we celebrate another well negotiated business deal and toast our upcoming adventure together. Tomorrow I will help you in the shipyard with the upgrades to the freighter so we can be on our way as soon as possible. Those not involved in the repairs and installations should spend that time searching for potential passengers and cargo."

Taking on a more serious visage, he added, "However, there is one more consideration we should discuss now. Once we reach our destination do you intend to land the freighter and leave it there, land and send it back into orbit with your R2 & R4 units at the helm, or obtain a small shuttle to use for ship to surface transport?

Regardless of this decision, I would only be of marginal assistance on the ground. So I propose that I stay in orbit, ready to defend the other ship, whether it’s in orbit or on the ground. That will also allow me to keep sweeping the area with sensors for any possible incoming ships. If you run into real trouble I can support you from the air or land and assist as best as I am able.”

The noble placed a hand on Quey’s arm to indicate he should wait as he said, “If all you want is some credits, I will pay you to help escort us through this obviously dangerous territory of yours. Consider that any credit chips we may give you under duress could well be encrypted. You would have a significant challenge using them.”

Urok Diplomacy (1d20+13)[30]

The leader snarled at Quey but listened carefully to Urok. He considered the situation a moment and shrugged, “We could probably just stun you, take all your stuff and get a good bit outta this. But that also might end badly for us, lads. Mugging, thugging, protection, its all the same to me as long as we make money. How much?”

Urok smiled slightly, “I’ll give you 300, and 75 for each of your four lads, so 600 credits total.”

“Agreed,” the leader said.

The transaction was soon completed, the minor criminals were satisfied, and they led the pair safely through a part of town they claimed as their territory.

Late in the same day, Urok guided Quey into an upscale restaurant. After ordering whatever struck their fancy at the time, Urok smiled and said, "My diplomatic luck and money, and possibly the potential influence of my nobility, combined with your intimidating presence saw us through a sticky situation today. Though we have agreed to terms already, including this sumptuous repast, I want to reward you further for the risks you take in escorting me through the lower city. Please accept this token of my gratitude."

He palmed a small blue gem toward the Zabrak and added, "It is a small stone from my planet, and is likely worth more than what I gave the gang."

"There is one thing we seem to have failed to consider in all this. The albino mentioned the possibility of having to dig up what it is he's after. I dont think the cost of equipment for that has been considered. That said, I dont mind a little hard work. There is freedom in it."

Johl may or may not be familiar with Haggar. Haggar has spent a lot of time on Coruscant in the temple and not a whole lot else. Haggar does have a reputation for failing the knight trials a number of times, and only making it on his last try before being assigned to one of the service corps because he had a lot of trouble passing the Test of Skill.

Cora turns to Johl. Still in a pleasant mood, she thinks to herself before delivering some bad news, "Maybe, another time. I have a lot of work to do and not enough time to do it. Johl chuckled softly, "Not me, I have very little to do in fact. As to being late, well he'd prefer we not keep him waiting, but it was not a condition of our employment. By the time the engines on that rat trap are cranked up I'll be aboard my ship, probably orbiting while waiting for you lot. But I'll see if I can arrange to have some extra juice hooked up for you." He knew what she really was and always seemed to enjoy making snarky jokes about it. Though some didn't care for independent droids, he took a shine to her from their first meeting and truly enjoyed her company and considerable set of skills. He had learned to respect her, since she was about the only one Force powers simply would not affect, and he even liked her personally. But he rarely expressed any of this openly, preferring to goad her at every chance.

"When we arrive at Tattooine? I imagine we'll dock the ship. Leaving it in space seems like we'd be leaving it abandoned, and up for grabs."

Rolling his eyes, Johl quipped, "Of course not, silly girl." Previously she had reacted badly to being called a girl until he explained he thought of it as an acronym joke in her case as meaning Gyroscopes In Real Life. It was an inside joke that would go straight over the head of those who thought of Cora as a female human, as she so often appeared. Regardless of her reaction to it, which varied according to the setting and company they were in from subtle anger to girlish laughter to rolling of the eyes in exasperation, he insisted on using the tired old joke often. He was, after all, an irrepressible scamp and hedonist who entertained himself as he pleased without care for what others thought. "Use that fancy heuristic processor you're so proud of! I meant when we reach our ultimate destination, this jungle planet. Not that it really matters to me, just thought I'd bring it up before everyone runs off willy nilly like a pack of grass crazed nerfs."

"Enjoy your evening though. I'm going to be up all night searching for our cargo, contacts, contracts, and destinations. It'll be a real chore finishing in such a limited time frame." She gives a simple "alright" to knowledge the rest of his comments.

Hiding her thoughts away, bluff [roll0], in this split second. She didn't like being called girl with either meaning. One downplayed her attributes. The other, in her mind was demeaning. She just lacked the heart to tell him in the past, but now it's become a slight irritation to her. A few typed words pop up on her computer, "Don't refer to me by my species. Tell him on the trip."

She rubs her neck in discomfort. "I'm in my "town clothes." I don't mind that kind of talk in private, but I have an image to keep up in public. I payed a lot for these clothes. I don't want them sullied.

We don't know much about our destination so I can only hazard a guess and it's a bad one at that. If it's unpopulated, like I imagine, then we'll probably land. On to Drall...

All the personal business was concluded over the next couple of days, and the group gathered for their journey. Captain Hawkeye reported that the ship was fully stocked and that all the upgrades were finished. Those who hadn’t been involved in that work were duly impressed with the new weaponry, and doubly impressed with the hidden compartments and new passenger quarters.

Jurai and Cora had managed to sell passage to several people for the standard price. Through the HoloNet she had located five people were going to the next stop on their jaunt to Tatooine, the planet called Drall. Jurai spent many fruitless hours searching, but luck finally came when she stumbled upon a married couple going all the way to Tatooine to search for their long lost son. She had also secured a small amount of some relatively cheap machinery and processed foodstuff to deliver to Tatooine, usually a very profitable business if the negotiations went well. They still had plenty of cargo space to fill at Drall, which Quey arranged through Urok to contract out to various manufacturers on Drall.

With the payments they had received from the passengers, the expected profits from the sale of goods, and the next installment from the albino once they reached Tatooine, they were set to make a tidy profit from this journey. Now, if they could get through that much space without any major losses or damage to the ship.

Johl jauntily strolled in wearing his old uniform, helmet tucked under one arm. It had been altered cosmetically to appear quite different, to avoid recognition, but still served the same function as when he was in the Jedi Order as a pilot. He grinned broadly upon seeing them all gathered and announced happily, “We’re all set, and I’ve checked the HoloNet for any updates on the run to Tatooine, via our slightly deviated route.” He handed a datapad to R2-AS1 so the Captain’s droid could download the information he had obtained, “No charge, of course. I’m ready when you are, and I say we should get this shadowy show into space now!”

Final preparations were made as the passengers arrived, such as fine tuning communications on an encrypted frequency. The cargo was loaded and the passengers settled into their quarters. Within an hour all was ready to go.

After taking off and getting far enough away from Corusant to enter hyperspace, the freighter and her escort Starfighter the Red Rapier left on the first part of their journey. After two hours the freighter arrived safely near Drall. The comm channel activated and the voice of Johl was heard (Hawkeye can click the ship wide comm on if she wants), “Red Rapier to Captain Hawkeye. About time you arrived, I was starting to wonder. I’ve already arranged landing clearance for us. Unless we’re staying overnight we won’t even need to pay any docking fees. Loading the cargo will be handled by the workers on the docks, paid by the shippers of the cargo. Quey must have really made an impression on that noble to garner such treatment!”

She saw him zip past outside right in front of her ship, so close she thought he was going to clip the freighter. He dipped his wing and lined up as if she were pursuing him as the ships approached the planet and slowed, "Wile they load that cargo for us, want me to come help you find passengers to Tatooine?"

Crew have their own quarters, and R2 doesn’t need one, so 3 of the original quarters are taken by characters. So 3 of those booked at 100/day = 300cr to Drall. Two passengers going from Coruscant to Tatooine were convinced to pay an exorbitant price (15,000cr for the pair). Two more in those quarters to Drall (500 ea = 1000cr). Total income for passengers so far: 16,300cr

Machinery and processed foods bought on Coruscant to deliver to Tatooine (30,000 cr, 3 tons)
Contract cargo Drall to Tatooine (500/ton)

Quey had half-heartedly attempted conversation with the passengers, showing the most interest in the couple searching for their missing son. When he learned their son had never been missing from society, he lost interest again, but remained polite and courteous.

Then chuckling, "Good. If you kept your gap open you would have been inviting me to fill it." She lets the air hang a moment before motioning for a waiter and ordering a round for her friends.

Johl shrugged, "He did say there were possibly primitive natives. But again, not really my concern, just saying."Flustered, she quickly responses, "Those don't count! ...At least, they probably won't be a threat to our job. Hopefully." And, just as fast as her response her mood becomes a mix of solemn and indifference. "I'm going to head out. All of that work needs doing."
In the cockpit alongside the captain Cora is helping out with the usual landing procedures. Hitting switches, checking incoming data, news alerts, weather, system information, calls, scanning for nearby ships, etc. etc. "Captain. A reminder. This is just a pit stop. We need to leave for Tatooine as soon as possible." Flicking some switches overhead. "We're already late."

She does her own little version of a news alert for the benefit of the crew and passengers. Trying to add some charm to it.

When the crew is two days away from Tatooine Cora (or someone else if they want to) will send our employer a message saying we'll be late by two or three days. The reason Cora is waiting is for she doesn't have enough time to replace us.

She moves out of some loaders way. Spotting Quey, she gives him a weak wave. "Enjoying some sunlight? Drall is a pretty planet. We should come back for some R&R sometime."

"Hey, listen. I'm going to go do some footwork. Want to join me? I'm just going to check the registries and administration to see if they can point use in the direction of some passengers looking to go to the outer rim. Once he got a little closer and the passengers were out of sight, the irrepressible Starfighter pilot said softly, “Yes Cora, we do need to round up some more passengers as soon as possible. I think I know of at least one person here who might specifically be interested in going our way, and I might be able to convince him to pay quite a lot. With a wink he chuckled, “Anyone want to tag along to visit him?”

Within minutes of landing a dock officer in a local military uniform walked toward them, "Greetings, and welcome to Drall. I understand you are to take on a considerable amount of cargo bound for Tatooine. It should not take more than a few hours. Who from your crew will supervise this?”

Though he barely showed any outward sign, other than walking slower than usual, those who knew him well noticed he was concentrating very hard on something mentally as they walked. By the time they were in the hallway leading out the comlink beeped once softly. He pressed the tiny button on the side once and said, "Johnnie, this is Johl, but you already know that. The deep voice on the other end chuckled wickedly, "I am indeed, you sly spacer. But then I suppose you already knew that somehow too."

In the City...

I was going to wait for Smeggedoff, but he can catch up in one post easily enough...

Johl walked over to a street vendor’s pushcart once they exited the building, offering to buy everyone their favorite refreshing drink. He ordered a mixed fruit frozen drink and began looking up and down the street as he slowly sipped it through a straw.

Pedestrians of various species could be seen everywhere. A vast variety of landspeeders and other small vehicles filled the street and many zipped past in the air above. Though not as congested as Coruscant, this was certainly a busy place. Within minutes an armored landspeeder pulled up.

As a side door opened a hulking humanoid stepped out. Hairless dark grey skin, with a high forehead, beady eyes, and a lampreylike mouth, those knowledgeable about species would recognize him as a Dashade. Bristling with weapons and physically imposing, he grinned fiercely at the group and nodded to the open door. Despite the fact that he packed several visible weapons, and likely a few hidden ones, he opened a cargo hatch under the passenger area and took out a force pike.

The voice of Johnnie, recognized from the comlink earlier, spoke from within, “That is one of my bodyguards, Bok Nollis. He will inspect the ship for me, to ensure it is up to my standards. Please get in.”

“Bok, the ship is called the Sidewinder. Ask for Captain Hawkeye,” Johl said. He poked his head in and looked around a moment, then said, “Always a pleasure Johnnie,” as he climbed in and sat in the seat opposite the occupants. Once everyone was inside Johl briefly introduced his companions as the doors closed and the speeder rejoined the traffic.

Inside they saw a rather rotund yet still muscular older human dressed in exquisite garb, flanked on one side by another well-muscled humanoid, a Feeorin in power armor, and a scantily clad Twi’lek female, all seated on one side. Johnnie smiled as Johl entered and sat opposite him, “Good to see you again, my old friend.” He nodded to acknowledge each of the others as he said, “Pleased to meet you all."

With a mischievous grin he added, "I won’t ask how you just happened to know my current need to travel discreetly to Tatooine, Johl. I know whatever you tell me would likely be a veiled version of the truth anyway. Besides, it doesn’t really matter. Let’s get down to business shall we? I do have a few other details to deal with if I join you.”

Johl nodded and grinned back as he stared at the Twi’lek, “Indeed, and I’ll let one of the others negotiate with you about passage while I enjoy the scenery.”

Johnnie chuckled and patted the thigh of the Twi’lek, “Very well. I would expect the nicest room aboard. I’ll be taking one of my bodyguards, probably Bok, who can stay in any of the other rooms you have available. I’ll be bringing some personal items that I’d rather not reveal, other than to say they won’t be any danger or pose any risk to your ship or those aboard, unless some authority manages to find them. I also have about a ton of illicit goods I need to deliver, so if you have smuggler compartments I’d be willing to pay more than the normal price to transport them.”

At the ship...

As the cargo loading began, a large humanoid carrying an inert force pike walked up to the ship, stopping at the bottom of the ship’s ramp. He was hairless with dark grey skin, a high forehead, beady eyes, and a lamprey-like mouth. Bristling with weapons and physically imposing, he bellowed out in a deep and loud voice, “I am Bok. Johnnie sent me to see Captain Hawkeye and inspect the ship.”

<<Text to Hawkeye: A dashade (She gives a short description) named Bok Nollis is looking to investigate our ship to see if our VIP and one of his bodyguards will be booking passage. He'll be arriving immediately.>>

Inside the landspeeder
She ducked her way in, and relaxed against her seating as much as Johnnie did. Not acknowledging the Twi’lek or Feeorin if they weren't introduced. Johl's and Johnnie's reuniting talk perked a curiosity, but as it quickly ended Cora raised an eyebrow at Johl and his outright refusal to talk business.

A few social cues come off from Cora that she's the women he needs to talk with. She gives him a minor nod as if she's introducing herself to the conversation. "Your commendations will be suitable. Nollis will confess to that. You and your bodyguard will each have a private room, your privacy, and that privacy will extend to your personal belongings." She'll oblige as much information he desires about his travel arrangements and whatever compromises need to be made to make sure he has a comfortable stay.

"We can handle your cargo discreetly. The privacy of your personal belongs is assured. The privacy of the cargo is another matter. We don't really care what type of cargo you need delivered; however, nothing goes in our cargo hold without our knowledge. We'll need to inspect the cargo, make sure that it's safe to transport etc. etc. Business as usually. After that we'll make all the arrangements that need to be made." She looks at him as if telling him how its going to happen, but she's waiting for any questions or objections.

Bok grinned fiercely and nodded once, walking over to one of the dock workers and obtaining an empty bin, which just so happened to be a walking service droid. Guiding it back to the bottom of the ramp he began to place his weapons inside, an impressive number indeed. "I will agree to your terms, but I would request two things. First, that this bin be kept aboard at the location of your choice. Second, that I be allowed to keep one weapon in case something happens outside your control while we conduct the inspection. I would leave the choice of what weapon that is up to you, but I would choose the inactivated force pike so it can easily be monitored."

Bok used no means to weigh his words or their intent to influence her, he simply explained the intent in open terms, “I will do a general inspection of all the functioning parts of the vessel; engines mostly, and the general state of the ships defenses. I will touch nothing without your explicit permission, Captain. Then I will closely examine the rooms we are to use. You may accompany me if you wish, and no harm will be done to the ship or any of its components. I strongly encourage you to communicate with your people who are with Johnnie if there are any questions or concerns.”

Well Bok, looking at the semi-full walking bin, the pike it is, but that comes with the knowledge that if you activate it, I won't hesitate to shoot first and ask questions later. Hawkeye walks over to the bin and secures it to the ships landing gear, before following Bok onto the ship, giving him turn by turn instructions on where things are and the longest route possible to get there.

Johnnie grinned at Johl, “I see why you let this one do the negotiating, she is very good and quite thorough.”

Johl shrugged and nodded, "Indeed, well worth her weight in gold, as they used to say. For more than one reason, I assure you." He finally turned his intent gaze from the Twi'lek to watch the scenery roll by outside the window.

After a round of laughter at that, the rotund man took a sip of his drink, then replied seriously to Cora, “I accept those terms. I fully expect that you would want to inspect the cargo before and after it is loaded, to ensure there is no switch involved. I would ask only that this be done out of sight, first in our warehouse, then again after it is in your ship. The vast majority of it will be very high quality and massively condensed illegal spice drugs. The remainder are personal weapons that are normally only allowed for use by the military, restricted, or require licenses in most places. On Tatooine nothing is really illegal or restricted if the Hutts approve and make money on it. Since I sell directly to them, they certainly will profit from this if they so desire.

If you agree to transport these goods, I would include a surveillance droid in my entourage to monitor the area around the smuggler hold entrance. It will be there strictly to ensure security throughout the voyage, for me and yourselves. It will be instructed to notify whoever you designate if the hold is disturbed during the journey."

He grinned again as he asked, “Now, what exorbitant and outrageous fees will you be asking for all this?”

Cora had no indication whatsoever that he was trying to hide anything, lie, or even be the slightest bit deceptive.

A little ahead of the story line there, but let's see. That is a fairly common cargo ship, so 1 in 4 chance at least one or more is currently in that docking area. [roll0] = YES.
How many other YT-1300's currently at the dock? (1d6)[6]

Hawkeye walks over to the bin and secures it to the ships landing gear, before following Bok onto the ship, giving him turn by turn instructions on where things are and the longest route possible to get there.

"Understood." Before entering the ship he released a tiny floating surveillance droid, which floated over the bin. He activated the comlink on his wrist, then followed wherever she led, patiently enduring whatever route she chose. It was clear from a few of his detailed questions and comments that he was very familiar with this general ship design, and was intrigued with some of their modifications.

In the hold he pulled out a small scanner and searched thoroughly for the hidden compartments before they were revealed, to see how difficult such a search might be. Nodding in approval when the device, preset to a limit well beyond most of those used by governments, failed to detect the smuggler hold, he also grinned, "Compliments to you Captain, and to the designers, builders, and owners of such an efficient compartment. So far, it all looks very good. Now for the quarters. Also, please tell me what you can about your crew and partners."

Johnnie's laughter only roused a false, assuring smile out of her. "Good. We need only inspect the cargo before we can start making arrangements. Your desire for secrecy is as much as our own desire. Your warehouse will work for us." An uninterested mhm is her response to the cargo. Nothing to worry about, probably.

"The droid being a droid will be no problem. And, the droid will continue to be no issue as long as it follows the same rules we laid out for passengers. We can arrange a designated crew for the droid. I'll have to request that one of our crew deletes any recordings that the droid captures before our business is concluded. Security matters, and all."

"The price for transporting will be a percentage of the cargo's estimated value. We'll need our own appraisal to give you the actual numbers. The fee is to be paid before the cargo enters the ship. We have nothing to do with whether your goods sell or not, and we won't be sticking around waiting for you to get payed for you can pay us."

"So, Let's have a look at those goods shall we? Not to rush, but we're in a hurry to get to where we're going."

Johnnie glanced at Johl, who was engrossed in the scenery. He shrugged and flashed Cora a half smile, "You may well have a good idea of the market value for weapons, which is typically at least double the normal price without the proper licenses and such. But you're an expert on the value of illegal drugs too? Damn, if so Johl was right about your worth. Maybe I should try to talk you into working for me!"

Though he seemed a jovial type generally, his visage reflected the very serious attitude he had toward business as he considered his own musings a moment. He shrugged and added, "We'll have plenty of time to talk about that on the way. We're almost there now, so let's see if we can wrap this up.

I agree to the conditions concerning the surveillance droid. You can wipe its memory for all I care. It's about the size of a small melon, and it'll be in the area near the smuggler hold entrance for the entire journey, so it needs no quarters. If you wish to charge me a bit more on my passage for it, I understand.

What percentage of perceived value do you propose to charge me for transporting these goods? And how much for our rooms? Bok will take a standard room, if any are available. I'll take the best you have."

Johnnie's smile suddenly turned predatory now that they had entered into one of his business skills; negotiating. "I'd bet quite a bit you don't get much business at that rate, at least not from discriminating and knowledgeable folk. Even four percent is far too high for this particular cargo. I could easily arrange another ship for far less without even revealing what I'm shipping. But I like Johl, and I'm starting to like you too, so I offer half a percent in response."

The Captain was alert and agile, drawing her heavy blaster pistol and firing before the pike could even get close. Her heavy blaster bolt struck the Dashade. He dropped the pike and stood stunned for a few seconds. When the temporary effect wore off he kicked the pike away as he said, "I surrender." He stepped back and pulled out a comlink, activated it and said, "All secure sir. The Captain is good as her word, in all things."

Fort vs Stun (1d20+10)[19] = stunned for 1 round

Firing a blaster once is an attack action.

The others who are with Johnnie hear nothing, he has a tiny receiver in his ear and has been waiting to hear this.
Slowly raising his hands to show he meant no further violence, Bok said, "You are brave and efficient. Johnnie shook hands and relaxed, "Excellent! We're nearly there now, just another minute or so."

Johl turned his head slowly to look at Johnnie upon hearing Cora's last words. He shook his head and looked disappointed but was seemingly still very relaxed, "Ahh, our Captain bested Bok then. I had thought you changed that little test years ago, Johnnie? Otherwise, I would not have left her at risk like that."

Johnnie shrugged, "The old ways are sometimes still the best. While it can result in hard feelings, occasionally in wounds, it never results in death. Bok knows the risks, and is still willing to put himself in that position. Were it not for his people's code of honor under employment and his self discipline, I would not trust him as much. I doubt it was much of a fight"

I'd like to relax, and join my new associates in a moment of respite. To clear the air, and look forward to our short stint together in the near future.."
His eyes hardened dangerously as he glared at Johnnie and spoke to Cora in a tone approaching apologetic, about as close as Johl ever came to apologizing to anyone, "I truly believed he had ceased that barbaric practice years ago."

Johnnie shrugged again and flashed a disarming smile at Cora. Without a word he nodded in agreement to her terms.

Johl lightened up slightly and turned to smile at Cora, "Well done, I have rarely known of Johnnie to capitulate so quickly or easily. That favor may turn out to be worth more than whatever ransom he'd have been willing to pay!"

Just then they arrived at the warehouse, the bodyguard opened the door opened on the side. They saw a large group of drall and a few human protesters gathered around the main entrance. The Feeorin in power armor glanced at Johnnie, who sighed in exasperation and said, “Go scare them off, but try not to kill any. Meet us inside, I’ll be safe with these folks.”

The Feeorin nodded once and jumped out of the vehicle and ran toward the group of protesters. The door closed again and the vehicle drove around the back to pull up beside a small, well-hidden metal door that opened as they arrived. Johnnie told the Twi’lek to stay in the car as he exited and led the others inside. They first entered the back of a rather large office, which was filled with expensive luxury of all kinds, then went into the warehouse itself.

Dozens of various battle droids were stationed around the perimeter and on a walkway near the ceiling, all carrying heavy blaster rifles and holstered blaster pistols. A wide variety of tough looking humanoids, a dozen or so, mulled around while drall and droid workers went about their business.

Johnnie led the group to an isolated vault in one corner, which occupied about 10% of the space inside the vast building. A pair of Droideka Destroyer droids stood sentry on either side of the door, another pair stood on top of the vault. A thinner, younger version of Johnnie sat between them, a blaster rifle across his lap.

Johnnie smiled up at this lad and said proudly, “That’s my youngest son, Ronnie. He’s in charge of the warehouse while I’m away, but he hates sitting in the office.” He put his hand on a biometric code pad mounted next to the door, then put his eye up to a scanner on the door itself. Finally entering a code into another pad on the door, it opened. Inside were hundreds of large wooden crates in neat, stacked rows, each crate being about 2 meters square. Groups of them had different color coding painted on the edges, presumably to indicate what illicit material was inside each, all very organized.

Johnnie stood just inside the door and said, “Inspect away. The total market value is two million Republic credits. The bulk price of the drugs and the mark-up value on the smuggled weapons makes that worth about 4 million to the Hutts. Your cut for transport is 80,000. Since we already agreed, I'll pay you as soon as it reaches the ship. How would you like that paid? One credit chip with Republic credits, several chips, or some other form of wealth like gems?” A worker droid with a crowbar and a hammer on tool mounts stood by to assist in opening and resealing the wooden crates.

Johl whistled softly in appreciation of so much wealth in such a small area as he nudged Cora in the side gently with his elbow, "I think you made a great deal. I have no need to inspect anything, I know what those colors mean. But I'm sure the Captain would want to know you looked, however briefly."

Without looking towards the sound of the voice, Sure thing Haggar, find some bindings off the ship bind this fellow to a post over there pointing away from the weapons and ship, untill his boss comes to pay for him.

Haggar shrugs, walking back into the ship to look for a set of plasteel manacles and a good sturdy support strut to lock the hulking brute up to.

When he comes back with a set of manacles that might fit, and some zip ties in case they dont, he looks at the brute in the eye

"Dont give us any trouble. If you dont get shot faster than you can blink, you might get worse from me."

Haggar tries the manacles, discovering that Bok's wrists are just too big for them. He settles for a chain of plasteel zip ties to keep him in place.

once bok is secured away from things, hawkeye will filp the swtich back to stun, reholster the pistol, then walk over to the pike bend over deactivate it, pick it up then walk over to the secured walking bin place it in the bin, then turn walk back to about 8m away from bok, your stuff is secured over there, it is yours when your boss comes.

At the Warehouse

The small, metal door closes behind her sealing the airspeeder away from the group. The luxurious office wasn't the first thing she was expecting to see. She keeps her eyes from wandering too much as not to come off as overly curious, but her professional visage is a pleased one. When they enter the warehouse a sense of familiarity comes back as this is more of what she was expecting. The droids catch her eye more than anything in that office ever would. She looks at the ones they pass by noting the different models. The various battle droids being such a rare and delight to see. At the vault a simple greeting between Ronnie and herself is shared while before the group steps in.

Looking impressed, she throws out the expected, but truthful complement, "This is quite the operation you've got going here. All these droids. What a wonderful sight." She looks back towards the Drodeka's to drive home the point. "It's an impressive collection that I can appreciate. I've always had a thing for droids."

Johl's comment pulls a smile out of her as she glances at him. "I'll have to thank you for introducing Johnnie and myself. Remind me to treat you later."

She steps up to a crate near the worker droid. Pointing to one within its reach. "Four million", she notes out-loud. She starts looking over the cargo the droid reveals. "Ten credit sticks with eight thousand each would be the most convenient." Content with her look she leaves the droid to reseal the crate. If her estimation is close to his, she says, "Everything checks out", and gives a grateful nod to Johnnie.

At the Warehouse…

A moment after they had entered, the Feeorin bodyguard rejoins them, but stands outside the vault. After the inspection of goods Johnnie gives a hand signal to his son and leads the group back through the office and into the armored vehicle. The ride back is filled with pleasantries about the local protesters, what they like to do on long space flights, and entertainments that Johnnie enjoys. Cora is able to locate several more passengers on the HoloNet, who wil meet them at the ship in an hour or less. Johnnie also hands over the credit sticks as the requested form of payment from the deal.

Arriving back at the Trade Federation dock, Johnnie speaks to the Feeorin in his native tongue, who leers lustily at the Twi’lek and nods once. The Twi’lek, instead of looking like a frightened slave who might be abused, actually appears pleased as she cuddles up to the large alien. Before exiting the car Johnnie reaches under the seat and pulls out a large duffel bag, stuffed full. He wears only a diplomat blaster pistol concealed under his coat, which he shows to everyone. It is one of those fancy ones with a more potent stun effect than most, very light and elegantly sized for concealment, while being fashionably designed.

Back Together, at the Ship(s)…

Johl jauntily strides over to his ship and briefly converses with his droid, then climbs up to look inside his cockpit. He deposits something behind the seat and seems very excited. By then the others are aboard the Sidewinder (unless they want to do something else). A large vehicle is being guided into a huge opening in the side of the dock’s warehouse, presumably loaded with Johnnie’s cargo crates.

Johnnie is shown to his room. Before entering he inquires about Bok and the meal schedule, then soon locks himself in to settle down. True to what had been discussed earlier, Bok supervises the unloading of the crates from the trucks and loading into the hidden hold. Once satisfied all was finished properly he pulls a small flying surveillance droid probe out of his backpack and tosses it into the air. The tiny droid beeps softly a few times and begins a slow yet methodical orbit around the entrance to the hold. Bok then heads to his quarters as well.

As the final preparations are being made to depart for Tatooine, Johl organizes a short meeting on the Sidewinder in a private room with all the business partners. He is smiling as they gather, and he is nearly bursting with pride and some news he can barely contain until they all arrive. Once they are all present and the door is closed he virtually explodes with an excited statement, “My brilliant droid Rex has devised a means to alter the speed of my hyperdrive using a complex computer program!”

Taking a deep breath and pausing a moment to see what, if any reaction the others display, he continues more calmly, “He cannot make it go any faster, but he can slow it down. So we can calibrate it to essentially match the speed of the Sidewinder, thus shadowing you even in hyperspace. This means that if anything ever happens on our space voyages I’ll be there to support you. I intend to try it out during this voyage, and with our com systems I’ll be able to send you reports of how things are going.”

Johl that's very interesting, on that subject noting there are a few other yt-1300's docked near, I plan to use the next one that departs as a sensor ghost for ourselves now that we are hauling something... interesting. I have the sidewinder programed for the standard route to tatooine, now unless my presence is needed I need to be ready to lift off at a moments notice..

Despite her body being flaccid her voice carries an enthusiastic tone, "That's amazing. As much as I'd enjoy talking about the technical aspects my astrogation is horrible. Bemused with a hint of truth mixed in she says, "I'm always worrying about your sanity. You two being so isolated all the time can't be good for your mental health. The computer on her side gets unhosltered, and she starts logging in. "This will be great." Glancing up to Johl, she catches his attentoin and points at the computer. "I need to work. Johl's comment about being able to run with them in the event of hostilities was good news.

"I'm praying to all the astrogation droids-past, present and future-that there'll be no run ins with undesirables. Personally."

So this Bok character owed the captain a debt, eh? The fanatics were usually good for what they promise. Interesting.

Haggar takes a seat in the cockpit with the rest of the crew, letting out a bit of a frumpy sigh

"If any one of you needs assistance with any task, please let me know. There may be some abstract way that I can offer aid. If not, then my current goals include looking for sources of knowledge on the force. The Jedi archives of Coruscant may be closed to me henceforth, but those archives are not the only place to find lore. There are holocrons out there that I'd like to get ahold of and collect."

Johl grins at Cora, "Aww, you worry about me? How sweet! I look forward to hearing more from you, Cora. But Rex is pretty amazing! We listen to music together, play games, talk. I also study a good bit on long trips while Rex handles the minor details of flight. I typically enter a Force trance for long voyages, at least for part of the time, it saves food and air and such."

Johl soon returns to his ship and everyone else aboard takes their places as the ship is prepared for flight. It takes only a few minutes to take off from Drall and fly out of the atmosphere. Captain Hawkeye brings the Sidewinder very near another ship as they fly away from the gravity well of the planet. With the sensors on passive mode and being so close to another ship they will be harder to detect, if any other vessel is even searching for them with sensors. Within minutes they are clear of the planet, and with a signal to Johl, the ships speed off into hyperspace together.

The trip to Tatooine is uneventful, at least outside the ships. Johnnie is a jovial person generally, and enjoys games of chance, music and storytelling. The couple in the other private rooms mostly keeps to themselves, though occasionally they visit to see how the flight is going. Johl sends regular reports about the performance of the new program, which is being closely monitored by Rex.

Though they are going the same speed, Johl falls behind ever so slightly each day. However, the only consequence is that he arrives in the Tatooine system about an hour after the Sidewinder. Knowing there is some variance possible, even using the same rating of hyperdrive, Captain Hawkeye slows her vessel when it comes out of hyperspace and she realizes he has not arrived at the same time, to allow time for Johl to join them.

Contacting the docking authorities at Mos Eisley on Tatooine consists of a brief request for landing. The only initial response is notification that a slip in the dock will cost 500 credits per day in advance, even if they only land for a few minutes. Johnnie had previously informed them that when they arrive he would send an encrypted signal to his Hutt contact and that they will waive the docking fee for the first day. He will then arrange to have his cargo unloaded at his expense. He notifies the Captain that this is all accomplished and that she should proceed.

The Captain receives authorization and coordinates for landing in Mos Eisley, and is informed that a crew will be waiting to unload the cargo they contracted to carry. Another crew will arrive shortly after that to handle Johnnie’s cargo. They are scheduled to meet the albino in this port as well, which is also where all the passengers are headed.

Johl mutters a curse over the encrypted channel after failing to convince the authorities that he is the fighter escort for the freighter and deserves the same waiver of docking fees. But he manages to obtain the slip adjacent to the one assigned to the Sidewinder. Shortly after landing, he saunters into the docking bay where the freighter is parked and already being unloaded. Though he wears a light tan hooded robe with a belt and a blaster pistol holstered to it, those who know him can tell he still wears his flight suit and vest underneath. Nobody has ever seen where he carries his lightsaber, though most know he has one. On the rare occasions he has needed it in the past, it just seems to appear in his hand from nowhere.

With an exaggerated roll of his eyes, the cocky star pilot declares in an exasperated tone, “Well, that went smoothly, until the landing. A thousand curses on those port pirates and their stiff fees I say!”

He sighs and adds, “Well, hopefully we can wrap this all up before tomorrow and be on our way. Anyway, we made it here intact and unharmed, something worth celebrating! Our friend contacted me yesterday to let me know he was waiting at the location where we agreed to meet him. I suggest we go there first, then deal with the cargo you have for sale after that. It’s not too far from here, but walking might take an hour or so and invite trouble best avoided. That is, unless you’re all up for a challenge in the streets of Mos Eisley? I’m always game for such, sometimes it can even be fun! Otherwise, when we’re ready to go I’ll find us a ride, which hopefully won’t cost much.”

I'll take all those things Cora is doing into consideration. Some may have an immediate impact after landing, others may take more effort or time. But just to let you know I didn't forget about or ignore them.

The passengers disembark and go their own way, many with a wave or nod of thanks to the Captain and crew of the Sidewinder. Johl pulls the hood of his robe over his head and buries his face deep within, seeking the shade and concealment it provides.

The streets are bustling with activity as the group exits the spaceport building, which seems slightly unusual for this time of day to anyone who had ever been here before. Typically most creatures sought shelter during the height of the day. Creatures and land vehicles of various types move hither and yon, mostly in a hurry to get wherever they’re going to avoid much exposure to the harsh environment. Many wear loose fitting robes with hoods, like Johl. Some insist on wearing their normal attire, and they looked stressed and overheated in the twin suns of Tatooine overhead. Those not accustomed to this environment were struck immediately by the arid heat. Though a slight breeze blew through Mos Eisley, it did little to cool anyone.

More than a few shady looking characters look over as Cora shouts, a couple of them stare hard at the one she called Captain. None stare for long, nor do any of them approach. Johl faces Cora for a long moment and shakes his head slightly, his hidden face very hard to read, then hustles over to a nearby vendor. After a few exasperated moments of haggling he passes his hand in front of him. He then gives the seller something and gathers an armful of light colored robes. Returning quickly to the group he hands them out, “Here, put these on. Not only do they shade you slightly,” he stares at Hawkeye as he finishes, “they’ll also keep you from being easily recognized.”

A few land speeders sit idle nearby, apparently ready to deliver taxi service. Johl motions them in that direction, “Will one of you negotiate a ride to our destination; The Night Shade Inn? I'll pay, as promised, but get us a good deal.” Meanwhile he slowly scans the area with his eyes, staying within arm’s reach of Hawkeye, his right hand never far from the blaster pistol in the holster on his belt.

A quick, holstered brandish of her weapons goes to anyone that's taken an interest in her little outburst. And, she isn't afraid to stare down anyone that cares to keep looking afterward. Committing to memory those that do so. When Johl returns with the robes she accepts and dons them. Putting them on in such a way that maximizes her ease of access to her weapons over concealing them.

The land speeders don't escape her notice. "Ok, I'll get use a ride." Similar to Nar Shaddaa she keeps aware of those around her as if they were hostile. Watching for anything suspicious. She'll approach the land speeders with certainty. In huttese, she'll try to get them a ride to somewhere near Night Shade Inn without mentioning the name, a place a local might go to try to avoid any type of foreigner premium. If huttese isn't doing work she'll switch to the racial language of the driver, and keep trying to pass herself as more local than foreign.

Cora convinces the taxi driver that she is a local returning home with some friends to meet her family. The cost for a ride is bartered down to 150 Republic credits.

The group is brought to an apartment building across the street from the inn, which elicits very little attention beyond the mild curiosity of a few locals when the group walks into the inn. As they approach, Johl sends a telepathic message to inform the albino of their arrival. As they enter the main lobby a droid leads them upstairs to a private room.

After a cursory greeting the albino hands Cora a datapad and says, "Here are the basic coordinates of the solar system that contains the jungle planet. What I desire is a sample of at least 100 crystals that might serve as the focusing component for lightsabers. The cavern where they can be found has a faint aura of the Dark Side, and the crystals are maroon in color. I want all such samples you find, but any other minerals or valuable ore you might find is yours. Questions?"

As he talks he distributes the 2500 credits to each person, putting them on the credit chips he previously gave them.

Since such crystals are not generally available on the market anywhere, I expect to sell them secretly at a cost of 5000 credits each. However, since you're directly involved in obtaining them initially, I'd only deduct 2000 credits from the remaining 5000 you will earn if this mission succeeds."

“I have no time requirements for you to complete your mission, so however long it takes.”

The albino stares at Hawkeye for over a minute before replying to the rest of her inquiry, “It is typically very difficult to prove that something does not exist. So that probing question is best answered by explaining how I learned of this possibility.

I had a vision one night, which I had no involvement in initiating, in which the potential existence of these crystals was revealed. I sought further information in a variety of ways, yet I could learn nothing more using conventional means. Only when I probed the past and the future through Force did I discover what planet they might be found on. It required further such efforts to obtain visions that showed me the solar system in which this planet is located, and yet more effort to learn the general location to search on the planet. I have narrowed it down to a mountain range for you, and the crystals should be found in a natural cavern in those mountains. So, if you cannot find any of these crystals it means that my visions were false, or that you simply did not look in the right places or probe deep enough.”

With a wicked smile he adds, “The truth shall be revealed to me through the Force. Regardless of success in this search, I will pay you the balance I promised upon your return. The incentive to succeed is now connected to your negotiated cut of what you find and any future profits made from this potential discovery.”

Johl had been paying very close attention, and when the albino falls silent he says, “So we are to search natural caves and caverns in a mountain range. How big an area do these mountains cover? This could take months, if not longer!”

“Indeed, and I do believe I mentioned in our initial meeting that it may considerable time to search such a vast area,” the albino replies, “which is one reason I was reluctant to hire a group that did not include a scout. However, with so many force users among you I presume you have the resources available to do well enough without a scout, and possibly seek visions of your own through the Force to narrow your search. The mountain range is several kilometers wide and about 100 kilometers long.”

Johl sits back and contemplates that as he looks between the other Force users in the group.

Time may become an issue for one character, you know who you are!

Cora will find a seat, take it, and lay the datapad off to the side of her. Her fingers repeating contemplative motions in her lap. "Well, we're here so now it's question time. Have you ever been to this planet? Is this planet "discovered"? Why do you need us? What function do we serve here that you don't want to serve or are incapable of doing so?"

Going to use Farseeing to try and find places and things on this planet that resonate with the Dark Side.

Farseeing, taking 10 for total of 22 on the check

Haggar receives no revealing visions of the Dark Side on Tatooine. But every time anyone has mentioned the jungle planet, or anytime he thinks about it, he gets a feeling that something there is related to what he seeks.

The albino smiles at Cora and shrugs once, then says, "I have been there once, to confirm the location of the solar system in the galaxy I received in the vision. I orbited the planet for weeks, surveying the surface visually and with sensors. I found no trace of civilization, but found many types of life forms, which still leaves open the possibility of primitives. As far as I know, nobody else has ever been there, and I have told nobody but you, so it remains undiscovered. It is not on any star map I know about, and I searched most of the best stellar cartography libraries for months. I am not an adventurer, I have no trusted companions to accompany me on such an endeavor, and I am not of sturdy enough stock to personally spend much time in such an environment."

He waited patiently to see if Cora had more questions, scanning the group slowly to see if others did as well.

She nods indifferently to the answer apparently satisfied with it. The datapad lights up as she starts to pore over it. "Captain. We should reconfirm our acceptance of this deal. I have an appreciation for the finer details that were worked out today." Any interest in the force, or whatever people where going on about didn't catch her interest and she wasn't going to ask about it. She has little to say on that matter; however, the captain's inquiry does interest her.

"I know of a place that should suit our needs."

Looking back to the albino, "Any and all data that you give us from your weeks of collection would be an immediate help. And, if possible, after our talks have ended I'd like you to go into as much detail as possible about what you've actually seen. About the rocks, seams, heat, depth, light, etc. etc. I'd like to record your recounting and try to make use of it."

The albino shrugs as he answers Hawkeye in one sweeping statement, “As far as I am concerned, there is no good place to buy anything on all of Tatooine, except possibly slaves, and even those could be found elsewhere for a better price.”

After hearing Cora’s answer he adds, “There are several disreputable dealers who sell much of what you ask. Most of them have shops near the spaceport.”

Taking a datacard from a pouch on his belt, the albino hands it to Cora, “All the information I know about the place is on there. Every detail is described, and it includes the sensor raw data as well.”

When their business is concluded, and since he’s leaving the planet as well, the albino offers to give the group a ride back to the dock in an armored land speeder. The arrangement is for the group to send him an encrypted signal as soon as they leave the jungle planet. He will then reply with a place to meet, depending on where he is at the time.

On the trip back to the spaceport Johl says, “I see no problem with checking around for the items the Captain mentioned while we’re here, we might stumble upon the deal of the century. But if we really need to obtain more equipment, or anything for that matter, we’d be much better off traveling to a nearby star system. There are a few in the outer rim that have advanced societies that include space travel. We’re sure to find a better deal at one of them, and the difference in travel time to this jungle planet will be negligible.”

The only other detail left to handle on Tatooine before leaving is to sell the cargo the group owns. Several businesses have offices at the dock for convenience, so that can be accomplished there. The timing works out well; just before the ships are ready to go a deal is finalized with a local business owner. Due to the negotiating skills of one or more group members, the goods they bought for 32,000cr on Coruscant sell for 60,000cr here. A tidy profit indeed! The time it takes to unload that cargo coincides with how long it takes to finish preparing the ships for their long journey.

I'm posting now because I leave this afternoon for my vacation and not sure when I'll be able to get back to this. Feel free to back post if desired, we'll handle all the details as needed.

Assessing this guy's trustworthiness.
Sense Motive [roll0]

Is this guy disguised (or hiding something)?
Spot [roll1]

He seems trustworthy, as far as business goes. He doesn't appear to be hiding anything, well other than equipment you can't see, but its not so much hiding as just where he keeps it.

Refueling costs double the normal amount here. You’ve been here maybe 2 hours so far, maybe a little longer if they go shopping for Viper droid, etc.

So with the final sale of goods here that makes a grand total of 216,800cr earned from passengers and cargo. Since I’m not exactly sure how you arranged to split that, I leave it to you to dole it out fairly. If you’re breaking it down by source, that’s 29,300 from passengers and 187,500 from cargo. That should be enough for everyone to pay for even shares in the ship, if they desire, with some left over.

Each character also got 2500 on Coruscant +2500 on Tatooine for the mission so far, with 5000 more due upon success and return.

"It would be cheaper if we did the modifications we need elsewhere. I'd suggest Sullust. It's a toxic manufacturing planet with underground cities specializing in everything we need. If I was a betting person, I'd say we have good odds of finding everything we need there."

"I'd like to get some more Mark VIIs for the surveying" she motions to the little probe droid next to her ", but the droid manufactures are SoroSuub not Arakyd. Arakyd is more specialized in probe droids. If we can't get a hold of Mark VIIs we might have to buy whatever probe droids they're selling, and better modified them to suit our needs. Software, hardware upgrades. Everything."

"Does everyone agree we need the better sensors? And, more importantly, who here is willing to invest in them? Same for the droids."

Sullust is also Cora's homeworld.

"At this rate, are we going to need more than the one mining droid, or a series of scout/survey droids to find this cave? That said, even if we have to manually search, there are several of us who are force sensitive on this trip. A site suffused with the force should not be terribly difficult to find, even if minorly so."

Haggar shrugs, musing

"Still, I am curious to find this location. There are any number of ways to get lightsaber crystals, from the commonly available, to the caves on Ilum, to handcrafted synthetic masterpieces, and to still want to go after a natural source says something about what we might find."

And, now that we get to keep whatever valuable materials we find, besides the crystals, I'm all the more inclined to find as much stuff as possible. We should find everything. Not to mention if we're going to be mining some gravsleds." She chuckles, "This business venture of ours is only going to pay out as much as we invest. The base payoff isn't the highest in light of our last success, but it has a lot of potential. And, the potential to keep paying out as long as we can kept this secret of ours."

Her arms fold out of reflex when the conversation moves out of her depth. "I only know what you people told me about the force. This is a wild planet, so I'm expecting all types of horrible natural phenomena, but if there is some common force knowledge about what to expect from this place you'd have to tell me. We're playing with fire here just dealing with our more illegal than usual illegal cargo. "It is a wild planet, just like you said. I dont think there is anything there that we'd need to worry about above and beyond what you'd worry about on any other similar planet. I'm more worried about gundarks and mynocks interfering with our mining droids. That said, we should be careful about the idea of such a larger scale mining operation. Space is big, but mining is a somewhat loud operation and would be easily discoverable. That may not matter, if you guys have the connections to provide the appropriate paperwork."

Thinking, She pours her friends some deep golden-brown Corellian brandy and then pushes each poured glass towards them. Unloading such a cargo might go unnoticed for a short while with some effort, but it will make noise. If we're going to do this we should do it right from the start. Leave no bad trails towards the future."

"Cutting anyone in on our secret planet is dooming us for failure. If we go to someone big enough to help us operate than they'd steal our business. We could sell the knowledge, but our albino friend would probably be outright enraged. No, I think we have to do this ourselves. That means we've got to cut out the noise. We could create a company. Be it a shell company or we try to pass a company off as the real thing. Or, perhaps my favorite, we sell to people that just don't care about government regulation or oversight."

hawkeye listening in on the crew conversations; I am not much for wanting any locals in on this venture, setting up a shell mining corp. would require us to deal with the mining guilds and we certainly do not need the mining guilds breathing down our necks and that's the least of our worries should the imperials or worse the jedi order catch wind of this we are doomed.
no it is best if we keep this as small and quite as possible get only what we think we need to get the job done.
I think an exploration to the coordnants given and some force use from our partners here to ascertain the location use our current ships sensors see if we can get a more specific location to within a few km would be best, then scan the surface of that area see what the terrain and local wildlife are like maybe clear out a landing zone for a ground search and see what if anything we might need for actual equipment. then if we need to we make the trip back here with what ever we can carry off planet to give us a little bit of a break of expenses and only get what we might need for the return trip.

"I see the interaction with mining guilds as a good thing. For one, it gives us all the connections we need to offload any cargo we obtain from a mining op. There basically is already an organization we can use, and focus on influencing it when necessary, versus creating one of our own, or fending for ourselves. I would not mind paying a mining guild cut to offload cargo that they dont know we obtained illegally. We should probably use a corporation as the front for all of our operations, and the faster we make that corporation at least appear legitimate, the stronger operating base we have. From what I've read, I think it is a fairly common step amongst the most well known criminal enterprises, not to mention a source of legitimate, unquestionable income."

The albino drops group off at the space port and his armored speeder is soon out of sight. The group finishes their business on Tatooine and meets to discuss their next steps. They discuss the situation now that they know more details and debate about what equipment to obtain for their mission to the jungle planet, deciding that anything they need can be obtained on the planet Sullust. Not only is it relatively close, but it happens to be the home world of Cora.

Johl brings up the option of buying a docking clamp to attach his Starfighter to the freighter, offering to pay for whatever modifications might be needed. This seems acceptable to all, which pleases the fighter ace immensely. He promises not to take up vital space aboard the freighter when they need it for passengers, but opts to stay in one of the luxury rooms when it not otherwise occupied. He insists on having the docking clamp installed outside that cargo bay so it will take a very short time for him to get from the room to the ship when needed.

Other concerns are addressed, and a debate about what the group will do on the jungle planet in addition to finding and gathering the crystals desired by the albino. Various approaches to mining native ore are discussed, including making arrangements with the mining guild and starting a legitimate company to covertly disguise their nefarious activities. While nothing is decided upon as a final approach, the consensus seems to be a short visit to Sullust to install and modify the ship for basic operations until they know more about what they are dealing with on the jungle planet.

Johl seems uninterested in the entire business aspect, reading a datapad containing information about the sensor data that the albino had collected. He pipes in about a few points along the way, “Better sensors are always a good investment, not just for this mission, but for all uses in the future.

The probe droids might help narrow our search, but would certainly be at great risk in dealing with unknown creatures there. I’d consider them an expendable resource, and view any that survive as a bonus.

I think anything we do to compromise the trust inherent in our verbal agreement with the albino will cause him to negate the future profits related to the crystals he seeks. I suspect he cares only about that, and any other mining operations we initiate should be kept as secret as possible to avoid exposing his interest to anyone. After all, it’s easy enough to sell ore and claim we mined it on various rogue asteroids in wild space.

Buying mining droids, gravsleds, cargo pods or containers before we know what is actually there seems a waste of good credits to me. Then again, they are your credits to use as you see fit. I suggest we make the minimum modifications and purchase only the very basic equipment needed to accomplish our actual goal and spend time surveying the place for future exploitation. But again, since I’m not personally vested in this operation I have no part in that decision.”

Hawkeye hearing what Johl has said; Johl does that fighter of yours have the fuel to go do a short recon of the jungle planet and return? otherwise prior to purchasing anything, I think a visit may be in order. Using what sensors and jedi abilities we have available to see if we can narrow our search area to as small as possible. Then so the trip is not a total waste gather up what ever local resources we could, lumber ect. Then come back to get the equipment we decide that we may need based on what we find out.

Haggar rubs his chin, considering Johl's comments

"I agree with Johl on this, that it is a risk we'll find nothing on the planet save the crystals we're seeking. Though, I add one more point in favor of purchasing anyway. We're not banking entirely on this one planet from producing what we need. The side venture nature of the mining operation means we can put our mining equipment to use wherever we can find valuable minerals. Also, I do not wish to risk the agreement with the albino any more than Johl does."

Well the mining corporation may have to wait until we are more solidified with a profitable cargo run.
as far as droids go, I agree that we should acquire probably 2 probe , maybe as many as 6 mining, 1 power (fusion generator) outfit the grav sled with a small mining laster and maybe 1 on the ship, as for an ion cannon on the ship it is an excellent idea we could mount 1 on one side of the mandables and the mining laser on the other where we have existing hardpoints at. as for shields I would also agree the highest rating we can acquire.

Johl seems anxious to get into space as the meeting lingers aboard the Sidewinder. This is not unusual for the starfighter Ace, though he rarely exhibits any outward sign of impatience while waiting to be in his ship and on his way to the next destination. Many details of what’s discussed are beyond his sphere of interest or influence, though he pays close attention to all that’s said. It’s obvious from the occasional soft sigh or subtle eye roll that he thinks much of this could easily be discussed on the journey to Sullust, but he says nothing to express his exasperation about the delay in departure.

Though Quey and Jurai had said nothing, Johl presumes they have nothing to add to the conversation. So once it appears that decisions have been reached that would indicate the meeting is nearing the end, he leaps to his feet and inquires exuberantly, “So should I dock with the Sidewinder right after take-off or head on to the Jungle planet to perform another simple survey?”

Tatooine to Sullust...

Johl shrugs and grins at Cora, “I saw no real value in a solo trip when it was first proposed, and nothing we’ve discussed has changed that. So I’ll just come along to Sullust with you. I’ve never been there, so it should be an interesting and educational visit.”

The Ace pilot struts out of the meeting and is soon in his beloved ship. The crew of the Sidewinder finalizes preparations and departs Tatooine without incident, most of them happy to be away from this planet. Within moments, Johl docks his Starfighter to the momentarily stationary Sidewinder, then rejoins the others in the lounge. A few minutes later they are far enough from the planet to enter hyperspace on their way to Sullust.

The voyage is relatively short, giving them plenty of time to finalize plans to modify the ship and purchase whatever droids and other equipment they’ve decided are needed.

Haggar experiences an odd feeling all through the trip, as if something momentous and not altogether pleasant is fast approaching and due to culminate on this odd planet in wild space called Sullust. He can neither identify anything more about it nor shake this feeling the entire time. It makes sleep difficult, meditation all but impossible, and puts him on edge the entire time.

Whether others notice this or if he mentions it to anyone is entirely up to him.

Since they intend to work on the vessel, when they arrive at Sullust they request and receive permission to dock at the shipyards. Within minutes they land and are soon in negotiations with the dock master and quarter master to arrange and pay for all that’s needed to make their latest modifications.

With the DC (29) & roll for astrogate (29), the journey takes 48 hours = 2 days.

Haggar looks obviously shifty. He is constantly seen taking deep breaths and making attempts to center himself. After several days of trying to shake the feeling, he gives up, giving in to his anger and begins throwing things and smashing various items not tied down in his quarters on the ship. When he's tired, and nothing left within reach, he collapses on the floor in a heap, winded and sweating.

He takes his comm from his belt, and speaks into it simply.

"Something is going to happen, where we're going. I dont know what, but I cant shake it. It will probably not be a good thing for us."

Sullust...

While the modifications to the ship are being started, Cora and Jurai leave to start their shopping trip, and Haggar ponders the odd feelings he experienced on the way. After a couple of minutes he’s inexorably drawn to the poisoned surface of the planet. Johl asks to join him, reminding Haggar that to go anywhere alone on an unknown environment risks trouble best avoided.

The spaceport is located nearly a kilometer below the surface. Haggar soon finds an access point to the surface, almost as if he knew where the nearest one was located, which is sealed by a thick durasteel door. A pair of sentry droids stand guard and warn all who approach of the dangerous state of the atmosphere, which requires some breathing apparatus for most living beings to survive more than a few breaths. The droids also state that they will do nothing to prevent anyone from seeking the surface, unless there is some attempt to damage the portal, but they will not assist in opening it either.

Johl goes to the control panel for the door and attempts to open it. It takes him only a few moments to succeed. He replaces his helmet and uses the air supply contained within the portable canister. With a nod he is seen to be holding the hilt of his unignited lightsaber in hand and motions for Haggar to lead the way.

Computer Use DC 20 to open door, take 10 = 24 to succeed!
The tunnel is old but still in good condition. It is 4 meters wide and high, and angles up and appears straight from the entrance. Any lights that might have once existed no longer illuminate the tunnel.

Haggar felt the pull towards the surface strongly, and he followed it without paying attention to what that really meant. In the moments before heading to the surface behind Johl, he regains lucidity from the call of The Dark Side. He considers it a personal failure that he did not maintain control, and in anger lashes out at the sentry droids for them being convenient targets, frying them both with a cone of lightning from his outstretched hands. After they stop moving, he looks to Johl, with a satisfied look on his face and speaks to him as if nothing wrong just happened.

"I almost forgot my safety gear. I wish you'd have said something. I'll be right back."

If Haggar is unmolested, he will go get his safety gear and go outside with Johl. If anyone asks, some kind of electrical disturbance fried the sentries.

Sullust: Fulluusub Port, Transponder

Back in the engineering bay Cora with the help of a droid is fiddling with the shields, trying to get them installed, when an improperly set wire sends an electronic surge throughout. She quickly does a diagnostic. At the results, she leans back in her chair, monotone cursing, before simulating a heavy sigh. She gives herself a moment then packs up to go have a talk at the shipyard. The cavernous yard's ceiling way overhead she looks about for their part supplier, ignoring the business of the place. Finding her, Cora calmly approaches her. Her disgruntled voice breaking the previous calm image. "I need some transponder parts."

Sullust: Droid Hobbyist/Enthusiast, Gastrointestinal Upgrade

The computer snaps into the lounge wall, gothic rock music playing in the background, connecting Cora to the Hypertransceiver. A bit of browsing leads her looking into Sullust droid enthusiasts. Looking for someone that is known for their custom work and odd droid upgrades. Partway through she stands up and walks over to the comm, pressing it, and sends a message to where she believes Hawkeye is right now. "Hawkeye to the lounge. Hawkeye to the lounge. She'll wait, personally comlinking her if necessary, and when Hawkeye enters she says, "I need your help finding someone. Someone very very good with droid customization."

(Take 10) Disable Device 27 and/or Repair 41 to break our transponder in such a way that she can repair it later.

Sullust – Haggar & Johl…

Johl arches an eyebrow at the angry outburst from Haggar against the droids. But he simply shrugs and says nothing about it. Giving Haggar a nod to acknowledge what’s said, he replies, “The doors will stay open as long as someone is standing here, but do hurry.”

As he waits patiently for Haggar to return he checks the destroyed droids for anything useful that the group could use.

When Haggar returns, now ready to head to the surface, he finds Johl still standing in the doorway waiting. Since it was wide enough they enter side by side and advance up the corridor. After they are a few meters from the doorway the door closes, sealing them in the dark corridor. Johl pulls out and activates a glow rod, his unignited lightsaber still in his other hand.

They ascend the corridor for about half an hour before it changes at all. That change is nothing more than a pair of corners that turn back and continue up at the same angle. As they turn the second corner to head into the next long corridor they see a pair of large, mutated anthropoids 10 meters away. They’re 3 meters tall, and though they’re slightly hunched and appear somewhat lame they’re solidly built, with shaggy hair covering their bodies in patches that do nothing to hide the sores and tumors indicative of mutated creatures. Each has a large mouth filled with fangs, twisted into lopsided snarls. Each carries a large crude club, which they swing menacingly as they prepare to leap into battle.

While trying to obtain transponder parts, the dealer requires Cora to sign a document stating the reason for needing such restricted hardware. She quickly determines it is of little to no risk to do so, since it is for local records, and is the only way such parts would be authorized for sale at such a facility.

Of course, there is always the black market option...

Hawkeye is able to assist Cora locate a local tech specialist who specializes in droids after a short combined search. The location is on another part of the planet, but the information includes a frequency which can be used for business inquiries. Contacting the individual, he seems more than eager to help, for a hefty price of course, and is willing to travel to their location if the job is profitable enough. He asks for specifics on what is desired, apparently ready to quote prices immediately.

Johl views this as a minor inconvenience, unworthy of much effort on his part. He drops the glowstick and ignites his lightsaber, gripping it both hands as he simply waits for the ogres to attack, “Mutant scum! If there's only these to it's hardly worth the effort.”

Delay action until after ogres…
Dodge bonus vs his opponent
The rush of using the Force to prepare himself for battle exhilarates Haggar as he draws and ignites his lightsaber, awaiting the ogres’ initial action.

The ogres roar and charge, swinging their clubs, which smash into each dark Jedi. Both humans manage to avoid any serious harm, their experience in battle allowing both to avoid suffering a debilitating wound.

Sullust – Haggar & Johl... Rd 2

Haggar attacks with a pair of lightsaber strikes, cutting past the oafish defense with expertise and well aimed blows from the energy weapon. The damage dealt is severe, but still not enough to bring down the hulking brute.

The ogre roars again and swings the club right at the head of Haggar. But the clumsy attack is easily dodged by the now more agile and ever alert dark Jedi.

Johl swiftly slides his feet to step behind the ogre and twirls on the balls of his feet as he brings his own energy blade to bear once again. The first hit cuts the ogre down but fails to kill it. He twists in place and delivers the killing blow to the neck, neatly separating the monster's head from its shoulders.

Being able to observe him closely in combat, Haggar realizes that Johl is a master of From IV, using his superior dexterity to deal much more damage than his meager strength could.

Johl grins wickedly at Haggar as he turns his lightsaber off. Still holding the handle in hand, he bends to pick up the glow rod, "I doubt these brutes have anything of value on them, but I suppose it would be foolish not to check, eh?" He kneels next to the one that attacked him and quickly searches it.

Finding nothing he shrugs as he stands and concentrates a moment, restoring the vitality lost during the short encounter. Looking up the tunnel he chuckles softly, "I sense no more opponents, so we should continue as before. But I suspect we may yet run into more deadly foes, as I doubt these beasts were the source of your misgivings about this place."

"I hope you're not expecting trouble. I'm not." She smiles and motions Hawkeye out the ship's ramp. Oddly enough as they travel through Fulluusub Cora makes conversation about foods and Sullust, not that the two combine that well. She asks what types of foods Hawkeye likes, dislikes, and if she's any good at cooking. The conversation about Sullust is a bit more interesting. Cora seems to know a lot about the planet, and any sight that Hawkeye asks her about she's able to give at least some information. Mentioning Sullust's LavaRides and spas in passing. Eventually, Hawkeye is lead to a massive taxi docking area, airspeeders flying every which way, constructed in a repurposed magma tube. Cora walks through the opened-air transportation structures till they reach a free-standing boarding area to another city; where she hail's a Sullustan's attention.

"...And I agree. The mutants in this place are far from what I was feeling. We should not allow them to hinder our progress."
Johl grins and bows his head slightly, "You honor me, doubly so by using the traditional name. There are few who master any forms, and very few who choose this one. Now that my ship can dock with yours for our long hyperspace journeys, we should have plenty of time to spar. It could be instructive to others as well, though you stand to benefit most from it. I'd be happy to spend time sparring with you, Haggar."

Looking ahead, he adds, "Nothing shall impede our progress for long, my friend, regardless of the challenge or intent of those who might stand in our path."

They continue up the long corridor for another half hour before coming to another door. There's a panel beside it in the wall, which Johl immediately checks out. For the first time he can recall, Haggar witnesses where Johl keeps his lightsaber when not in hand. The pilot pushes the handle of the energy weapon down into the left sleeve of his flight suit under his forearm until a subtle click is heard, leaving it completely concealed and apparently loaded into a ejection system of some kind. The door itself seems even more solid than the one below. There's no obvious explanation as to how a pair of brutish mutant ogres were present in this sealed corridor.

Moments later Johl grins at Haggar, "I think I have it figured out. There should be some light outside, so I'll turn off the glow rod before opening the door." He replaces his helm on his head, ensures the seal is set, and flicks his wrist to place the handle of his lightsaber once again in hand. When Haggar acknowledges he's ready, Johl extinguishes the glow rod and activates the door.

"As am I. Several possibilities spring to mind, and doubtless others exist as well. We may have missed a concealed door along the way. They may have been trapped in here for some time. Someone, or something, opened this upper door and let them in, then sealed them in. Regardless, it doesn't matter much now."

As the door opens the pair of dark Jedi see a shadowy room with an open door opposite where they stand. Highly diffused, dim light coming from that opening reveals very little of what's inside the room. The room seems to be a small building housing the door they opened. The room is 10 meters wide, 12 meters long, and about 10 meters high. Still standing in the corridor, just outside the door they just opened, Johl spots, and Haggar hears the subtle presence of two battle droids at the opposite end of the room standing on each side of the door (10 meters away), and the not so subtle existence of 4 more ogres, 2 against each wall inside the room (6-8 meters away). Sullust - Hawkeye & Cora Visit Thiro Jule...

Cora and Hawkeye settle on a slower transport to taxi them to the droid specialist. While most of the technicians and engineers on Sullust worked for SoroSuub or one of its corporate competitors, this man was reputed to be independent of any corporate entanglements. His biography, which was available to anyone who performed a thorough computer search, indicated he was once the leading scientist at one of the corporations that SoroSuub had bought out. Being primarily responsible for much of the programming that made the famous 501-Z police droids so remarkable, the human named Thiro Jule had refused to join that prestigious and influencial corporation. Rumor had it that the corporate leaders refused to acknowledge his part in the programming of the Zeds and only offered him a minor position with minimal pay.

Thiro had taken his equipment, and most importantly his programming notes and sub programs, and moved to a remote cavern on Sullust far from the SoroSuub sectors. Some of the Zed droids he had helped create were so loyal to him that they went with him, and presumably still served this enigmatic human.

The taxi driver, as most will, pointed out sites of significance during the journey. Everything from corporate office buildings dominating entire cave complexes to factories, workshops, warehouses and stores of every conceivable kind. They also flew through a fairly affluent neighborhood where many of the corporate leaders lived in expansive mansions.

After a couple of hours they arrived at a highly secured area. They were scanned and the vehicle had to go through a portal buzzing with sensors to enter the compound. Droids of all kinds went about their business, including hundreds of security droids of various makes and models from all over the galaxy. At the storefront of the main workshop they had to enter the code given them by Thiro when they first made contact, and surrender all weapons before being allowed in his presence. They were assured that the weapons would be secured and not tampered with in any way, and that they would have the only key code that could open the locker since they created it.

Sullust - Hawkeye & Cora Visit Thiro Jule...

Hearing about the entrance protocol Cora muttered, "I hate scanners", to Hawkeye. Shaking her head. She kept nosy and wasn't hiding that fact as they were guided in by a protocol droid. Keeping an ongoing conversation with it, if it was willing, about public knowledge on the warehouse. More than once she caused the droid to hurry her along thanks to her slow, casual observations of the area. Her eye was out in particular for droids with restraining bolts. Spying on the known temperamental ones more thoroughly.

She thanks her guide at the door. Listening to the instructions Cora puts her two heavy blaster pistols in the drop off locker. Thinks for a second then she pulls a grenade out of a pouch to place alongside them. She looks at Hawkeye and gives a wry half-smile. The newly imprinted key snugly in her pant's pocket the door flicked green as they finished all the security checks. More than happy to enter, she proceeds inside the storefront/warehouse.

I'm assuming Hawkeye is putting her weapons inside of the locker too. :smallyuk:

"I can see a case would be made for negotiation, though I'd prefer to operate from a case of neutrality rather than as a prisoner. To accept otherwise, proves your intent not to negotiate"

Haggar deactivates his lightsaber, and hangs it from his belt with slow and deliberate, perhaps exaggerated movements that hopefully help to illustrate his apparent intent to avoid violence.

Haggar continues to speak, lying from a stance of plausable deniability. He absolutely intended to help Johl slaughter everything in the room without asking questions, but speaks otherwise

"We merely acted out of caution. The mutated monstrosities in the hallway previous attacked without provocation, blocking our attempts to reach the surface. Our aggressive entry was merely a precaution, especially since we saw two more of them."

Sullust - Hawkeye & Cora Visit Thiro Jule...

Cora and Hawkeye enter the storefront, led by a protocol droid, then navigate through a maze of a trail through a warehouse filled with crates and bins. Oddly enough, Cora didn’t see any droids with restraining bolts, even on those notorious for temperamental behavior. A few minutes later they are shown to a smaller workshop, and upon entering they see a cluttered space with all manner of droid parts and other equipment. Amid the muddled mounds of miscellany they spot a small man at a work bench, dressed in a stained jumpsuit covered by a grey lab coat. He wears thick glasses, one lens enhanced by a series of movable magnifiers.

Looking up from a circuit board he’s working on, the man moves the magnifiers out of the way and smiles slightly as he says, “Welcome to my happy mess! I must admit I was a little disappointed when you decided to visit here, as I do so look forward to getting out now and then. But no matter, what can I do for you?”

Sullust - Onissius & Tera Kai, Sidewinder Bay...

Onissius and Tera Kai find themselves in an entrance to a docking bay in a shipyard, staring past the security droids at a vessel straight out of a vision Onissius had about a week ago! A few words to the droids allow them to enter. As they approach the ship a figure appears on the ramp, a 7 foot tall, green skinned humanoid female. Her hair is made up of tangled vines, her eyes are the reddish orange color of autumn leaves, and she is dressed in loose fitting dark green robes styled similar to typical Jedi fashion. She stops at the top of the ramp and smiles at the pair as she says, “Greetings strangers, I am Jurai. Can I be of assistance?”

An upward crescent matches on her own face. "Happy, indeed."

She moves farther into the lab to a comfortable chatting distance. "Hello. As if you didn't know I'm Cora." She motions to her side. "This is Hawkeye. Jule, I assume?"

"Apologizes about the unexpected, short notice visit. If time allowed I would have preferred to give you more of a warning, but our stay is a short one. And I'll have to admit we wanted to see your workshop and your workings. From a glance it's what we wanted."

At his disappointment she gets an "Oh, I'm sorry" look on her face, and replies with a more chipper, "We'll take you out another time. Our treat."

That last burst of positive body language fades to a pleasant, but more serious mood. "As to what we want, that's complicated. Let's talk shall we?" Cora looks around the room till she spots what she wants: a droid brain. She goes to pick it up. "Your programming signature is unique." Her finger taps her new-found toy in various spots. "I'm sure you could tell me all the technical aspects of building a droid. But, my question is this", she holds up the brain, "What does this mean to you? Not the specs, but the personal meaning you attach to... brains. We have a request that needs that type of thinking."

Onissius is tall and thin, with long red hair. He wears flowing long robes of green, yellow and blue with only pants underneath the robes, with a heavy blaster tucked unsafely behind his belt. He walks barefoot in sandals and has a little bag on his side. As he sees the tall female he stops for a bit, as if appraising her
he then smiles and says in a friendly tone:

"We are seeking a ship willing to take on passengers to take us away from this sordid planet. It turned to be far less entertaining that what I had hoped for"
He looks her into the eyes for the first time:

“You can call me Thiro.”

Watching Cora closely, he grins when she picks up a droid ‘brain’ and asks about what it means to him, “Well, that particular piece of hardware represents the simulation of the brain of a living being. It is the essential part that makes up the personality, intellect, wisdom, emotions, and mental control of all physical attributes; whether conscious or subconscious or unconscious, regardless of whether it is a living organ or complex circuitry constructed from electronic parts. It is the most complex single part of any being, living or automaton.”

Glancing at hawkeye briefly, he returns his inquisitive gaze to Cora, “Do you seek a more complex brain, or improvements on your current system, my dear droid?”

In this case, that would seem unlikely, given our next destination. However, given your stated reason for seeking passage, this may be a serendipitous meeting indeed."

With a glance around the bay, Jurai adds, "I am not at liberty to say much more, and my responsibilities include security of this vessel. But you are welcome to stick around until the Captain and other crew return from their business."

Even as she says this, Hawkeye and Cora return. Jurai points at them and says, "Ahh, luck is with you, our Captain and her co-pilot are returning now."

Once Hawkeye and Cora get to the ship, Jurai introduces everyone, then smiles slightly as she adds, "Captain, these two seek passage off Sullust, ostensibly to get away from a planet that they perceive as 'far less than entertaining'. Haggar and Johl haven't returned yet."

Her tastes demand a droid that won't just recreate a dish with perfect technique, but to create new dishes that meet her unique tastes and not the generally accepted taste of a dish. She's doesn't want to dull a droid's senses by submerging all the conscious information. More like, she desires a second subconscious sense similar to that of a standard organic species. One that would allow the droid to interact with food in a more natural way by integrated self-produced memories of eating."

Sullust: Sidewinder Bay

Tera Kai stands eight and a half feet tall, easily towering over the green plant-person-thing, her shockingly-slight build amplifying her apparent height while also reducing the visceral impact of her size. Atop her sinuous neck her round head is bare and her skin a bright blue-white which contrasts heavily with her massive black eyes and the shimmering, grayish-purple starbursts deep within that presumably serve as irises. The huge eyes overwhelm her thin mouth making it seem tiny in comparison. She had no ears and no nose, only a pair of nostrils connected to her mouth by thin slits.

Her torso and arms are wrapped in thick black cloth, with a skin-tight under layer just barely visible between the edge of the cloth and her white-leather gloves. Around the very top of her long frame is a thick vest of similar white leather either somehow stiffened or perhaps stretched over some rigid supporting structure. The lower half of the vest is festooned with pockets, most obviously in use, and the smooth upper portion over her shoulders gives way to an elongated rigid collar tall enough to cover the back of her neck. Around her waist is a thick, serviceable utility belt, also in white, on which is holstered a pair of blaster pistols. Over her white-leather pants on one thigh is holstered what could either be an overgrown blaster pistol or perhaps a small, stripped-down rifle. Her pants are tucked into high black boots that rise to just below a joint that is presumably her knee, each closed with a half-dozen industrial latches constructed from black metal and white duraplast. The boots are well-worn but in good repair, the construction almost thick enough to look blocky on her gaunt frame.

"I... am Tera Kai," she says rather slowly, her inflections odd. She pauses before continuing: "in the employ of Mr. Onissius... to see to his well-being." She gracefully inclines her long neck in deference towards her companion. She otherwise stands at ease, giving off a vibe somewhere between self-confident and aloof, underscored by just a hint of general menace. Her demeanor is appropriate and effective for a bodyguard, but it's not clear if this is an affected attitude or simply her natural state.

Onissius and Tera Kai, while we are leaving this planet within a few days time after refitting the ship we have a job we are already expected to complete. While I can fully understand your desires to leave this planet, we are not exactly going to a planet where typical passengers could arrange other transport or to the fact is a destination location.

However we are seeking additional hands onboard this ship, if your so inclined and would like to hire on and get what some would call honest pay for honest work.

What say you?

I choose my words in light of the fact you never know who or what one is dealing with. I am no fool nor do I ask for, that which I do not expect of myself. Where some excel at particular tasks and not so great at another the mutual benefit is that as a whole the greater goal is achieved.

Sorry about the long, probably hard to read post. Tired and all. :smallsigh:
Cora separates herself from the busy captain by walking up to the new crew. Gesturing with a hand and a small nod Cora introduces herself, "Welcome, Onissius and Tera. You can call me Cora. Don't let the captain fool you. We're hardly generous or kind." She tells Jurai to hold on a second if she's in a hurry to follow the captain's orders.

"You're undocumented crew members as of now. We'll work on getting that sorted out." A J9 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/J9_worker_drone) and two ASP (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/ASP-series_droid) droids start to walk down the ship ramp, and Cora quickly motions to them. "Standard security. Until we know you better we'll have to ask you to disarm yourselves. Please, hand over any weapons you have to Yong, Jin, and Wei before Jurai's tour."

"If you have questions or grievances state them. You'll need to go through some tests, sign a NDA, and contracts before you're officially part of the crew. Security around yourselves and your data will be a little higher for a while as things normalize. Lots of legal mumbo jumbo. That's to protect the ship and the crew on the legal side. For less savory matters we resort to traditional methods.

We'll need to do some background work to fully process you. Blood samples for drug tests and contact information for background checks. We'll need to know about any outstanding bounties or wanted status on worlds. We'll help you license any equipment that is current unlicensed, and illegal gear handled on an individual case by case. We require a language sample for all known languages. Any reference papers noted, or at least a statement about how you found the Sidewinder. And, we'll file a standard résumé including noteworthy skills together. Any job you're capable of doing you'll be expected to do.

The Sidewinder is not an open investment, a short-term investment, nor a simple crew position. We'll discuss payment methods in farther detail during the contract signing. A contract breach can and most likely will lead to ownership rights and investments being voided and repossessed by the Sidewinder. You put in the credits, and it's on you to stay around long enough to see that you make back your investment. As of now we've never had to terminate a signatory. Let's keep it that way." She offers a brief smile.

"Let's get the crap out-of-the-way and be crewmates, hm? We're not normally hardasses except for a few key security details which I'll handle behind the scenes. A friendly piece of advice here. You might want to gather up as much entertainment as you can before we leave. Our lounge can provide you with the hardware you'll require for music or games."

Thiro acts as if he believes Cora, regarding the ruse of treating this as if it pertained to a droid other than her. Whether he actually believes this or not is irrelevant initially. As Cora explains what she seeks specifically, Thiro begins sifting through some circuit boards and other small devices. Just before she finishes he finds what he’s looking for, holds it in his closed hand, and smiles at her, politely allowing her to finish. “This is not the first time this particular issue has come up, though has been a while since I was asked to deal with it.”

He opens his hand and shows her the tiny chip as he continues, “I have here a small processor with the basic programming designed to accomplish what you ask. It may need some fine tuning, depending on the droid model, current processor systems, and hardware. But it should accomplish the stated goal.”

With a grin he closes his hand again. Continuing to play out the ruse he adds, "It sounds like your client can afford, and is more than willing to pay, a substantial amount for such a capability. So I’ll let you have this for 7500 Republic credits, leaving it up to you whether to charge her more and fine tune it.”

Before the Captain is out of earshot, she turns to the newcomers and adds, "Since they're not being used for this trip, I'll presume you should enjoy the luxury of the passenger rooms we recently upgraded. While not top of the line, they are individual rooms. Otherwise, it would be normal crew quarter, to be shared with current members."

The small hand was keenly focused on. A hint of doubt fills her voice, "Oh? You've dealt with this issue before?" And, that hint doesn't disappear when he shows the chip. "The processor was the most requested item. The secondary equipment is still desirable. A droid being able to taste without the function to do so is just another problem not quite solved. A "tongue" would suffice. A holding component would surpass expectations."

Her eyes flick to his face when he closes his hand. "She can afford to pay the Thiro his asking price. My client is a women whose tastes would benefit from a continued relationship between a craftsman such of yourself and a women that the universe detests. Any credits that find themselves in your research would tickle her...."

Part of his previous ultimatum to surrender included dropping weapons and stepping forward, and further he had refused to negotiate. So the shadowy figure concludes that the failure to do exactly as he had instructed institutes a ruse, despite Haggar’s declaration of surrender. He sighs heavily and says, "So you think me a fool, so be it." He then speaks a word in a commanding tone in a language Haggar assumes is one the ogres understand.

The ogres nearest the entrance attack as the other pair crowd the area, and one of them attacks as well. The fourth stands behind them, ready to attack if an opportunity presents itself. Though there’s not quite enough space to step between Haggar and Johl, the ogres use their long arms and weapons to swipe at them. The first one strikes Haggar, though only for a glancing blow (21 VP). The middle one misses due to the cover he has. The last one in the front line hits Johl, though again only for a glancing blow (16 VP).

The droids fire again, once at each opponent. But this time they’re firing into melee and against cover, so both miss.

Given the situation to start, I altered the map slightly pertaining to the position of Haggar and Johl. It made sense to me that they would make use of whatever cover they had, which is prat of the wall on either side of the door (+4 defense). This did not affect the first round of attacks, the droids would still hit Johl and miss Haggar. But this round it made a difference. O1 & O3 get the same protection vs you right now.

Given that, the events we just witnessed, and some of the words we heard from that shadowy figure, I suspect that is a Jedi out there."

Johl grins a bit sheepishly, then shrugs and adds "I almost hate to leave that particular challenge unsettled, but we’re at a distinct disadvantage here and now. I leave it to you to decide our course of action, after all, I only came along to accompany you on the urging your vision inspired. There’s a good chance that facing this challenge is the only path that leads to something terrible occurring to us here. So I think a hasty retreat to rejoin our friends is the wise course at this time.”

Tera Kai, Sullust: Sidewinder Bay

Tera Kai seems a bit bewildered by the overly-thorough security measures, but since her employer has consented she'll follow his lead. She hands over three blaster pistols, a stripped-down rifle, a collapsible vibro-ax, a vibrodagger, and rotary blaster that she takes out of her backpack. The larger weapons appear to be heavily modified to the point of making it unclear how one might use them. As they're taking their tour of the ship, she says to Jurai: "I must refuse the blood test. My people are cloners, and I know well what can be done from a blood sample. I'd fail the drug test anyways: a few months ago I engaged in recreational drug use at a rather lively bar on Ord Mantell." She slightly tilts her head in a quizzical manner, her long neck exaggerating the small motion. "I'm not quite sure why you'd care either. My previous employers have only minded if one is partaking while on the clock, something I most assuredly do not do."

"Agreed"

Haggar turns to sprint back down the hallway back towards the city.

"We can examine the details in hindsight later, but I feel as if we have been tested, and by living we have passed that test, rather than give into aggression at the wrong time. Control..."

Haggar trails his speech off, focusing both on the run, and the idea of maintaining control over himself. The Force is a tool and a weapon, to surrender to aggression and allow The Dark Side to take control at the wrong time would mean that he had none. Unless Johl needs to stop, Haggar does not stop running until the two get back to the ship, and they do not take a direct route back.

Sullust – Haggar & Johl

Johl ignites his lightsaber and slashes into the control panel for the door once more, just to ensure it is disabled. He then wastes no time joining Haggar, both running back down the corridor. As they reach the corner and slow before moving on to the other straight corridor back to the lower level, he activates the vocal circuits of his comlink, "Haggar and I are returning. We encountered trouble, no time to explain now. Both of us are fine, and we should be back at the ship shortly."

Everyone who had his encrypted comlink frequency received the vocal message.

As the pair reach the lower door, they realize that the code had been changed. As Johl begins to work his computer trickery it opens. There are four Zed police droids standing there blocking the exit, pistols drawn. One of them says, "The incident above has been reported, and is being investigated by local authorities. You must return to your ship and stay there until it is ready to depart Sullust. Any deviation will result in the impound of that ship and the arrest of all aboard. We will escort you there now."

One led the way as the other three followed.

Johl chuckles slightly and shrugs as he looks at Haggar, "Very well, I'm all for cooperating with that."

Right after the message from Johl a dozen or more small flying surveillance droids enter the docking bay and fly complex patterns around the bay. A pair of Zed police droids, accompanied by a pair of Driodeka destroyer droids, station themselves just outside the entrance.

Johl and Haggar arrive at the shipyard dock where the Sidewinder is undergoing upgrades and modification. They are escorted by four Zed police droids, two of which station themselves at the entrance and lock the door. The other pair escorts Johl and Haggar to the ship and station themselves near the ship.

Sullust - Hawkeye & Cora Visit Thiro Jule...

"Speaking of research"

Her computer comes out of her bag. "I have some research fragments she's having done at the moment. If we could grab some chairs she'd like you to see and join in on her research. It's a unique frame design." Her computer at the ready, it has parts of her two weeks research on better mimicking human flesh. And that's obvious to any trained professional, but hidden within is a design to return inconclusive results to scanners. It's the start of her work towards fooling a scanner completely.

OoC: Awesome! Cora isn't a very trusting person. The fact that he kept up the ruse...
Thiro's finger fly across a datapad on his desk as Cora speaks. He nods and says, "Certainly, the components you need for the taste function are being gathered now. That will be an additional 1500 credits."

Looking at her research his eyebrows furrow slightly in concentration. It takes mere seconds for him to decipher and understand the technical aspects, and he gives no indication whatsoever about the motivation or reason for it. He pulls out a blank datadisk, "If you would share what you have, I'll see what else I can add to it. If you have a means to be reached, please include the frequency and any encryption keys necessary. I have other clients who would pay for most of this research, being interested in much the same thing. Of course, most of the major droid manufacturers will kill to get their hands on it, most of them merely to suppress or destroy it. But we won't let that happen, now will we Cora?"

He smiles at the last part and winks at her, then leans back and glances between both his visitors, "Is there anything else? I am a very busy man, and now I have even more work to accomplish."

She is paying him now, right?

"I'm meant to share what I brought. There is more, but I'll have to retrieve it and bring it by another day. Reaching us, however is unlikely for reasons. We can share a digital dropbox, but until I return to my client expect infrequent live communications. Unfortunately, that might take so long that this research becomes outdated by several versions. The lounge welcomes everyone with a low electro and drinks are out. Cora is tapping away on her computer re checking the security for questionable/illegal activity. She greets the two latecomers as they enter. "Hey Johl. Haggar. We moved things into the hold. Hand over anything you don't want to Yong." She motions to a J9. "Yong will take anything you give it to the hold and lock itself in as a last precaution. Droid security has been reduced to cut back on witnesses. We moved our things outside into the hold as much as possible. Other cautions have taken place.." While keeping an eye out for visitors she calmly asks, "Mind filling us in on what happened out there before we get a knock on the door? Don't spare any details. Sullust doesn't look very happy with us now."

This is assuming the group has a bit of a chance to talk before the police showed up. If the police came in with Hagger and Johl ignore this of course!

Cora would have told everyone to turn over any illegal stuff to hide in the hidden hold. With a few less details for the new crew.

Sullust - Sidewinder lounge

Johl rolls his eyes slightly and explains in an almost bored yet somehow injured tone, “We were doing nothing explicitly illegal, simply journeying to the surface to investigate the prior vision that Haggar had of this place. With absolutely no provocation from us, we were savagely attacked by a pair of raging ogres in the tunnel leading up. Though we quickly overcame such minor monstrosities, we each suffered wounds in the short skirmish.

At the exit to the surface, which is inside a small building, we were accosted by four more brutish ogres, a pair of Zed droids, and a shadowy figure. The ogres stepped forward in a threatening manner as the droids fired a stun volley, then we were given an ultimatum by this shadowy figure who stood just outside the building. We were told to relinquish our weapons and surrender.

I had been stunned, dropping my lightsaber, but Haggar tried to negotiate peacefully, from what I recall. Next thing I knew they were attacking us again, the ogres inflicting more wounds, though the droids missed with their blasters that time. So Haggar simply closed the door and rendered the controls inoperable. We fled the scene, and you know the rest.”

With an exasperated sigh, Johl adds, “Being restricted to the ship means I won’t legally be able to go shopping for a speeder bike! I was going to buy at least one, for use on the jungle planet. As you may recall, I initially proposed that I stay on my ship in orbit unless I’m needed, in which case I would fly down and blast whatever needs blasting or land and help as required. But with the docking clamp I can leave the ship attached to the Sidewinder in orbit and join you on the surface. In that case I want a speeder bike to use for patrolling and surveillance. Besides, they’re fun! You think we can manage to get permission to go shopping for one Cora? Or do I have to sneak off to get it? I basically know what I want, so maybe I can just order one to be delivered?”

The police droids don't enter the ship.

Johl left out only the bit about Haggar destroying the sentry droids at the door on their way up, figuring that was Haggar's responsibility to report or not.

The way Johl is dressed would be instantly familiar to anyone who spent much time at a Jedi temple, especially the one on Coruscant. He wears what used to be a standard uniform for Jedi pilots; a padded flight suit with an armored vest, but all very much altered and stylized to his personal taste and comfort. He sets his helmet aside when he enters, and they note he wears a holstered blaster pistol on his right hip. He has shoulder length, slightly wavy brown hair and warm brown eyes set in a handsome human face.

Johl collapses into a lounge chair and after grabbing a drink. With a quirky smile he says, "I'm pleased to meet you both. I'm Johl, fighter pilot ace and all around fun guy. Our next destination is not one that most people know about, or would choose to go if they did. So is there some particular trouble or situation here on Sullust you're fleeing? Not that I would personally hold that against you, as I seem to be in that very situation."

He glances at Cora quizzically, who usually handles this sort of thing when the Captain doesn't, and continues in a slightly suspicious yet decidedly intrigued tone, "So why did you choose this particular vessel, if all you wanted was to get off Sullust? Surely there are hundreds of transports with more... inviting destinations. Or am I to presume you're joining us on our little adventure? Have either of you been told any details of this yet? By the way, if we have to shoot our way out of here, I doubt personal weapons will make much of a difference. However, I'm fairly certain it won't come to that."

That seems to remind him of something, as he clicks on the wrist mounted comlink and says, "Rex, see if those fancy scanners of yours can pick up any activity in this complex that we might not see from here. Relay it to Cora too, if you find anything." A beep of acknowledgment is heard, familiar to those who have heard many R2 units communicate in binary.

"As for choosing this particular vessel, some would call it fate, others the Force, or one could explain it with the fact that there are no vessels except droid cargo ships leaving in the next few days. Also, we did get the most intriguing offer of joining on what you describe as your little adventure..."

Johl hesitates a moment as he glances at Cora, then shrugs. Based on the fact that the pair of newcomers had quarters aboard the Sidewinder and were sitting in the lounge discussing things with the crew, he presumes they've cleared any security checks. He wonders briefly why nobody told them of the mission details yet, but since he was the initial contact for the group and the albino he concludes it is left to him to explain.

"Our mission is to explore a previously undiscovered jungle planet in wild space, which we have ostensibly named Bleon. We seek to prove or disprove the existence of powerful crystal there that presumably can be used to make lightsabers, and possibly other energy weapons. Our employer had a vision of this, and subsequently researched it without success. He then traveled there himself to confirm the location, visually observed it and took sensor readings for weeks from orbit. We have each been paid half the promised reward for this endeavor, the other half to be paid upon completion. We will also receive a percentage of the value of the samples we return, and are promised a smaller percentage of any future profits derived from their sale."

Pausing a moment to let all that sink in, he adds, "I seriously doubt you would be entitled to the pay we have already received, but once we leave Sullust I plan to contact our employer and arrange for you each to get the other half and be included in the bonus. Of course, that is presuming that you will both agree to these terms, and do all you can to assist in succeeding."

But I never fully accepted a life restricted by the Jedi code, and have been disassociated from the Order for a couple of years now. In fact, I strongly suspect the trouble Haggar and I experienced here is connected to that very fact, at the very least."

While I generally have little use or respect for sympathy, even when directed toward me for good reason, I appreciate the sentiment in this case. During our journey, when we have time, I'd like to hear more about your childhood, as well as your time at the Temple. Of course, I understand if you do not wish to discuss such things."

Johl smiles at Haggar and broaches another subject, "It has been brought to my attention that some of the skills I learned and mastered at the temple could greatly benefit others that I have chosen as companions. I agree with this, and can see the value of such practice and training. In the past I have constructed a couple of lightsaber specifically for sparring. They are capable of inflicting only the most minor wounds, with no danger of death or dismemberment. I invite you to join Haggar and I in the hold for some lightsaber sparring. Apparently amused by Johl laughing she chuckles once. "I'd like to watch." Her computer folded half way up. "In fact, I'd like to join in on the practice and training. I know; I'm not exactly qualified." Her hands raise up parallel to the side of her head. "But, apparently the force is a major part of my life now. I can't even go to a planet without the force being invoked." She looks to Johl all serious for a moment. "I'd like to learn despite my past detachment. The half-aware don't last long in Hutt Space. I need to be aware of what's going on around me."

"Onissius, you wouldn't have any issues with me joining in would you? I'll have to ask you not to cut my arm off."

Apparently Cora is very distracted. :smalltongue: She'd advise against breaking out of the dock to buy a speeder, but Johl is going to Johl (and she's ok with that).

Also, a bit of hidden message for Hohl. Cora puts a lot of personal importance/attachment on awareness.

Johl takes one of Cora's hands, kisses the back of it gently, then pats it as he says with a smile, "Ah Cora dear, though you aren't actually part of the living Force, you and the Captain are surrounded by those who use it willingly. But fret not, you are most welcome to join us, and cautiously invited to participate if you desire it. I understand well the need to be fully aware of that which surrounds and affect you. My Jedi Masters drilled that into my mind from a very early age."

Releasing her hand, he bows slightly and turns on his heels, "But for now, we'd best see what assistance we can lend the Captain or she might eject us all into space the first chance she gets! Time enough for sparring and such fun after the day's work is done."

His comlink activates and they all hear a few beeps from Rex, his R2 droid. Those who understand binary would perceive some slight irritation in the words, "About time!"

Johl rolls his eyes and chuckles, "Frakking uppity, mouthy little droid! Oh well, what's to be done? He's right, and after all, he's one of my best friends in the universe and very good at what he does. I'd likely be dead three times over if it weren't for Rex!"

A mess of cloudy processors rev through the fog of war, and her eyes widen at the revelation. Her elbow pulls towards the gut as she retreats her saved hand. Playing off the encounter, despite her confusion, she firmly says, "Save it for the ladies, Jack. I'm signing up for a course in the force and nothing less. Hopefully your Jedi Masters taught you how to teach. Else I'll be learning more about you than the thing that binds the universe." An attempted quote at something she heard in passing.

The couch cushions release her, and she tosses a few of the dirty dishes in a bin. "The weapon systems are about done. We were trying to finish all the external work just in case we needed a quick exit. As usual. If we've done nothing wrong this bureaucratic red tape melodrama should just leave us with our time wasted."

At Johl's confession Cora replies, "Aw, that's so kind of you Johl. Rex is going to love hearing that."

She looks to Onissius before leaving. "Do whatever you two want. If you two are staying the night we'll do the paper work then. If not we'll do it tomorrow."

Johl turns slowly and glares seriously at Cora a moment, his expression clearly indicating he wasn't pleased with her response or words. His face takes on a blank expression as he speaks in a low, even tone that few had ever heard and lived to talk about, "If you intend to maintain the façade of being a woman, you need to learn to act like one as well. Consider yourself lucky today, droid, that I truly like you. Otherwise your first lesson in the Force would've been a memorable one from this jaded Jack."

At Johl's confession Cora replies, "Aw, that's so kind of you Johl. Rex is going to love hearing that."

Johl shrugs and replies without emotion, "Rex knows all this." He walks out of lounge and outside to find Hawkeye.

Haggar has been tight-lipped up to this point, merely hanging in the space nearby everyone and taking in the conversation to be had, with a look on his face that includes some obvious thought to the past events and current.

"I think the security droids are most likely connected that shadowy figure we encountered. They seemed to be in his employ, and it is known that model of droid resists reprogramming, though that may be the conclusion we're intended to make based on that fact. I am expecting trouble from a connected individual, and it will come in the guise of the official constabulary, but they might just want to make sure we leave."

"That said, I also spent a great deal of time near the temple conducting policing missions in the lower levels of the city. I am Haggar Justinian, and it is a pleasure to meet you. I too, like Johl, am no longer an official member of the Jedi order."

Onissius may be familiar with Haggar, if he spent time at the temple. It is known that Haggar did not do well during the knight trials and only passed the test the final time he was allowed to take it before being reassigned to one of the corps. Not soon after he passed that test did he leave the order for unexplained reasons. He dresses unassumingly, but still makes the mistake of hanging his lightsaber from his belt, displaying it openly like a Jedi would.

"Johl isnt kidding about his ability. All jedi carry a lightsaber and are proficient in its use as a requirement of office, but not all become specialists or masters of a particular style of combat, of which there are currently seven. Johl has mastered at least one of them, and it is impressive to see in action. I'm curious to see what I can learn from him, myself, in that area."

"A pleasure." Onissius nods to Haggards introduction
"It does seem that the Jedi Council finds little lover on this vessel..." he smiles as he notes, unclear on this being a smile of approval or disapproval of the noted fact.
Answering both Cora and Haggard at the same time, Onissius casually remarks:
"If the security arrangements around your vessel truly are the work of an opponent to this ship, it would be a foolhardy plan to leave it in the hope of returning at a later point in time. I will have a courier bring my items as well as the items of lady Tera."

"Three Jedi on a single ship this size? Hopefully the cargo bay has extra space for their egos." Even with Tera Kai's alien mannerisms, the inflection in her voice gives little doubt that she's playfully joking. "On the other hand, a business venture with three Jedi sounds like a very wise investment indeed. Particularly when I'm around to make sure they don't get into too much trouble."

She thanks Onissius for sending a courier for the rest of their gear, saying: "The only thing I don't have with me is my swoop, but if you can arrange for that to be delivered, I'm happy."

Sullust to Bleon - Day 1...

The next couple of days pass without incident in the now highly secured docking bay on Sullust. Everyone capable of it helps to finish the work being done to the Sidewinder to shorten the time required to be here. Everyone gets their gear on board, including Johl’s speeder bike and all of the things owned by Onissius and Tera Kai.

Once all the ship modifications are in place and tested, they prepare for their journey into the unknown of wild space to explore the jungle planet they have named Bleon. Since no results or repercussions have occurred from the incident on the surface, and since there is no restriction against it, they are approved for take-off when requested.

Just hours after they enter hyperspace the navcomputer brings the ship out of hyperspace. The jolt is so disruptive that it damages the primary hyperdrive system.

Johl immediately rushes to his ship, preparing to launch into a space battle at the first sign of trouble outside the ship. As he enters his docked vessel he clicks on the intership comlink, “Red Rapier to Sidewinder, ready for action. At the first sign of trouble release the clamps.”

The Jedi Ace leaves his channel open and begins talking to Rex as they activate the sensors and begin scanning the area, “Scan mode Rex, let’s see if we can find anything out there, little buddy. Get ready to fire up the engines, raise the shields and power the weapons at the first sign of any threats.”

A scan of the area reveals no threats or any reason for the slow down other than bad navigating too close to a star. Somewhat disappointed, Johl rejoins the crew aboard the Sidewinder. He makes his way to the engineering bay to see if he can help.

Assessment by those knowledgeable in such things indicates a couple hours of work can be done to repair the system, using parts they have aboard and a part from the back up drive (Repair DC 25). Overall this is much quicker than immediately engaging the backup engines and repairing the primary drive on the way.

Rd 1...
While this is being done, a horrible looking creature manifests in the engineering bay, floating near the ceiling! It appears to be an impossibly tall humanoid, so gaunt that it appears to be nearly skeletal. It has long, wispy white hair which floats around its head. It wears ephemeral rags that hang in strips from its bony arms. Its pale skin is stretched taut over its frame. It has an exaggerated mouth full of sharp teeth, and its eyes glow with an eerie sanguine light. Its hands are long and bony, with black-taloned fingers.

It unleashes a horrible telepathic scream, which affects everyone aboard except the droids, then flies along the ceiling toward the conduit above the control panel.

There was no chance to spot or hear this thing before it attacked, so that was its surprise actions. We'll continue with round 1 per initiative.

Will save DC 21 or panicked (see pg 288 of core book) for 1d4 rds.

We need to figure out who all is in there. I suspect Cora, some other droids, maybe one or more of the characters that have repair skill. Johl will be there on round 2. Those not in the bay will take 1-3 rds to get there, depending on where they are to start.

Knowledge - Alien Species might tell you more about it, and you get +2 due to its reputation!

Everyone also roll initiative.

Glad to help." She moves over and plugs her computer into the nearest access port. Pausing to observe the plentiful J9's and the ASP's before she starts hacking away. "How's the new help?"

She'll wait for an answer before moving on with the conversation. One she meets with a simulated sigh and a downward look away from her computer screen. "Please, don't take this the wrong way, because I'm so good at that today. I need to talk to him about this."

A bit of guilt biting at her for rejecting a vulnerable moment and a desire for that moment has her speaking up after her thoughtful pause. "I'm not trying to become human you know? I couldn't do that. I wouldn't do that. A droid is who I am. I'm not pulling off this little facade for anyone but myself. It's entirely selfish. I don't care if people think I'm a droid, but I do. I don't care about being inorganic or what comes with that, but I want to be similar enough to other people that they don't have to think of me as inorganic. They can think of me as a normal person. In a better universe, I wouldn't play dress-up if people could just accept me as a person without doubt." She turns away from the wall weakly smiling. "Sorry about that. That's not exactly what you wanted to talk about. Must be something in the air today."

Rex replies while working, "They do well at what they're programmed to do, but not much more. Still, I am happy to have the help when needed."

She'll wait for an answer before moving on with the conversation. One she meets with a simulated sigh and a downward look away from her computer screen. "Please, don't take this the wrong way, because I'm so good at that today. I need to talk to him about this."

"I understand, just thought I would inject some insight, since I have been his friend for years. I was assigned to serve him at the Jedi Temple when he first trained as a pilot. He always treated me well during that time, even though he owned me legally. When he realized he did not want to serve the Order he gave me the option of becoming free willed and independent."

That's not exactly what you wanted to talk about. Must be something in the air today."

Rex replies with a very empathic tone, as if he knows well what she is expressing, "I can certainly understand that. The problem is, unless they know this about you, most people are going to assume you are trying to appear human for their benefit. Johl is rare among living beings, he seems to accept droids as people, if they prove to be more than just a collection of equipment and simple programming. In fact, I think he likes you more than he will admit, even to himself."

Space: Sullust to Bleon (Johl & Cora)

Cora has been avoiding talking to Johl about what happened in the lounge back on Sullust. Avoiding any attempt to bring the subject up with some bad deflection and physical avoidance. A few hours before the others and Cora's first force training succession; however, she crosses paths with him on the Sidewinder. If he tries to brush past she intercepts him. Like a kettle losing its stopper she asks him almost accusingly, "Why did you get mad at me back there on Sullust?"

Johl doesn't avoid the encounter, apparently he'd been looking forward to talking to her. He smiles slightly and shrugs as he replies candidly, "I suppose it was due to your snippy reaction to my attempt at being kind and charming by kissing your hand and patting it. I don't react well when my efforts to be nice are rejected, and you seemed more than a little irritated about it when you told me to save it for the ladies and called me Jack. Most of the time I forget you're not a living being, a lady, and I find myself thinking of you as just another person. So when I think you're acting like you're not such a being, its a sharp reminder to me of my presumptive error. I hate making mental errors, so the rage from that is often projected outward. After all," he grins mischievously, "I'm a very charming fellow and hate being scorned by any lady, especially in front of others."
