PF grapple question

I've seen this wording a couple times, but I'll just point to this item specifically. It says "+x bonus to CMD against grapple checks". That means it only applies for getting out of them, right? Or is that for making them as well?

Bonus to CMD means only to resist grapple checks. It gives a bonus to escape artist, which can be used to escape a grapple.
