Hey guys,
My DM is letting me make some spells for my character and I'm looking to have a "benevolent sovereignty"/"Monarch" type of motif for this character's spell list. Buffs and defensive spells that a leader would have.
So I'm looking for either homebrew or non-homebrew spells that might fit into a "Monarch" Domain.

One I've got is
"Warded Citizen"
Abjuration
Level: Wizard/Sorcerer/Magician 3
Components: S, M, V
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: touch
Target: Creature touched or self
Duration: 5 minutes/level or until discharged
Saving Throw: None (object)
Spell Resistance: No (object)

You cause a whirling vortex of protective energy to surround you or your ally. Whenever the warded creature is dealt damage, you may opt to discharge the vortex as a free action. The energy immediately coalesces and absorbs the damage. The spell ends when it is used to absorb damage in this way.

would love ideas and input!

It should be an immediate action rather than a free action, no? I like the idea, though I might put some sort of hard cap on it. For example, it might absorb 50 damage from the next damage source to affect them. That's a hefty chunk of damage, but not unreasonable for a 3rd level spell. The thing I think of it being immediately useful against is powerful first-round monster abilities like dragon breath weapons. But it probably isn't going to be more useful for that than various energy resistance spells. I l like it!

Target: Creature touched or selfThe creature touched can already be the caster himself.

Saving Throw: None (object)
Spell Resistance: No (object)The (object) makes no sense. The spell can only target creatures.

Why not make the discharge automatic?

ughhh i forgot to change the info part from a different one.
The discharge isn't automatic so that you can take a hit for a small amount of damage an keep your spell for when you need it- a crit, a fireball spell ect

Nearly no spell gives you such an insight, unless they are specifically for giving insight and nothing else. I wouldn't do it on that one either. Compare your spell to the psionic power share pain (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/sharePain.htm).
