How's this neighborhood? – Germantown, Philadelphia

I have a job offer down in Philly (in East Falls or Manayunk; I'm not sure exactly where the neighborhoods end) and I found a reasonably large apartment for a fairly reasonable price within a few miles of the job. But as non-city folks, my mum is worried about safety in the area. Does anybody know Germantown, specifically around the Tulpehocken station?
