Hey playgrounders!

My group is wandering through a casino based dungeon. There's four levels: Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, and then Spades. At the moment they're getting ready for the boss fight of the Diamond level. I was thinking throwing a crystal golem at them. One that I really liked was the Prismatic Golem from Monster Manuel III, the only issue is that it's challenge rating 18 I need to get it down to about 12. What would you all do to nuke it down?

Notes on the Prismatic Golem:
DR 10/adamantine
Immunity to Magic
AC in the mid thirties.
Attacks with a prismatic touch, with similar effects to a prismatic wall.
20hd (140 hp)
Incorporeal
Blinds anything 8hd or lower for 2d4 rounds upon sight.

Currently I'm thinking of turning the Blinding into a Daze, and dropping the incorporeal form.

Thanks guys! If anyone has a better idea for a crystal golem as well, I'd love to hear it.

What level are the PCs? I'm not sure I see the point of downgrading something that hits people with 8 or less HD if the party is level 12.

Dropping incorporeal seems reasonable, though it depends on what exactly the party's damage output come from. A group of blaster casters won't care at all that the monster is incorporeal, whereas people with summons or minions generally will.

- Start with something closer to the CR that you want. Preferably below.
- Add things to the base creature.
- Change some flavor text to look like whatever you want.

For example, the SRD has the Stone Golem (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/golem.htm) at CR 11.

Take away its Slow ability, and add a new ability:

Inner Light (Su): The Crystal Prism Golem constantly shines with the light of a daylight spell.

Prismatic Crystal (Su): Every other round, as a free action, the Crystal Prism Golem may use its magical body to refract light to emulate a spell effect. Roll 1d6:
1 - scintillating pattern (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/scintillatingPattern.htm) (Will DC 17)
2 - color spray (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/colorSpray.htm) (Will DC 17)
3 - blur (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/blur.htm) (7 rounds)
4 - mirror image (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/mirrorImage.htm) (1d4+2 images for up to 7 minutes)
5 - searing light (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/searingLight.htm) (100 ft. ray; 3d8 damage)
6 - confusion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/confusion.htm) (10 ft. radius around the golem; Will DC 17; duration 7 rounds)

Change the immunity to magic to something like 'can make a save against spell even if spell is normally ST no.' Waves of fatigue is normally ST no, right? Will save to shrug it off, instead. Instead of prismatic touch giving off the entire prismatic wall at once, make it a random color effect.

You could also use (or refluff if you really like the prismatic golem) the preexisting CR12 diamond golem in Monsters of Faerun.

This is a pretty good list of the golems that are out there:
