The entry for the first sample Vampire in MMI lists its LA as +5 as opposed to +8 as i typical for vampires. Has this been noticed, addressed, fixed? Is it on purpose, or the result of poor editing?

I noticed it too. We had this issue come up when our frenzied berserker lost a bet and had to become a vampire.

That's an odd bet.

It doesn't appear to be in the errata, so if it was found it wasn't fixed. Not like it matters, as the actual template section has the correct +8 level adjustment.

Actually, in the actual Monster Manual that I own, the Elite Vampire is ALSO listed as a +5 LA.

Interesting, whats the copyright date on yours? Mine's 2003.

Mine says it's printed in August of 2012. Assuming the Circle C is Copyright, mine was Copyrighted in 2003

The 2012 reprints should have included the most recent errata and additional changes. It is possible that the level adjustment was intentionally changed to +5 (or it could be a typo).

The original MM1 and Libris Mortis say it is supposed to be +8, and the errata put out by the time that 3.5 ended didn't change it.

I should probably point out that the actual TEMPLATE still says +8.

There are almost always errors in the sample characters, in all of the books which have them, which is nearly all.

^^ Seconded. Some of the errors are kind-bogglingly dumb. (I hope that is a word, but I doubt it.)
