View Full Version : Cheesy TO question: any way to get a wizard to qualify as a spontaneous caster?

So, I had a purely theoretical optimization question that has been stirring in my head for some reason:

Is there any way for a wizard or other prepared arcane spellcaster to qualify for a prestige class or feat that has a prerequisite of "Must be able to spontaneously cast [x]-level arcane spells" WITHOUT taking a level in sorcerer or another spontaneous spell-casting class?

I don't care how cheesy the method of accomplishing this is, and it can use any 3.5 or Pathfinder material that is not 3rd party.

EDIT: Wow, so that was surprisingly easy for wizard, so let's increase the challenge. Is there anyway to pull this off for any prepared arcane caster other than wizard? Like, a Wu Jen, for example?

I think there's a Dragon Mag ACF that gives wizards spontaneous divination casting called..."Spontaneous Divination" (IIRC).

Spontaneous Divination is from Complete Champion, and should work for your purposes.

It's not Dragon Mag, bro. I think it's Complete Champion.

Also, some of the Wizard specialist variants can spontaneous cast spells. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/specialistWizardVariants.htm)

There is also the Alacritous Cogitation feat.

Combined with Versatile Spellcaster, any of these may allow you to cast ANY spell in your spellbook spontaneously.

Something else that could potentially work is the Spontaneous Dispelling variant of abjurer, but that requires you to be an abjurer and it also requires that you give up the bonus spells per day for being a specialist so it's probably not an amazing option

It appears I've been ninja'd

Alacritous Cogitation works for Wu Jen as well.

Funnily enough, it's actually uncommon for a caster base class to be strictly prepared. Druids and Clerics spontaneously cast as well.

Player's Guide to Faerun, Regional Feat: Magical Training, gain 3 spells of 0th level as either a Wizard or Sorcerer. Doesn't help you if you have to cast spells of a certain level, but you qualify as casting spells spontaneously from level 1.

Hmmm, looking around, it seems as if Uncanny Forehought might do it too.

Uncanny Forethought has Spell Mastery as a prereq, and Spell Mastery has Wizard 1st as a prereq, so I don't see how this would allow you to use it on a Wu Jen.

Oh, right, my bad.
