So the gods' destruction of the world would not include the afterlives, where all the souls would be transported.

What about the elemental planes and their afterlifeless inhabitants, such as Celia?

I would assume that they too are not part of "the world".

The various planes are not constructed of the threads of reality used to construct the physical planet, as the gods were able to retreat to them while the Snarl messed around with the first world. Heck, even the Prime Material Plane or whatever the heck it would be called still existed, its just that the world was utterly annihilated.

That seems to be the only logical conclusion, yes. The rifts are currently only manifest on the Prime Material Plane, since that plane itself is its prison. "Destroy the world" is what was said, not "Destroy the multiverse".

Now, if the Snarl gets out, or if Redcloak succeeds at his plan, then it would stand to reason that all of the Planes would be in danger.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the gods only plan on destroying the Earth, as that's the only thing that is the Snarl's prison.

Thank you. I just wanted to know if others had reached the same conclusion.

So if someone is on a quest in the elemental plane of ranch dressing at the time the gods destroy the world, would said person be unaffected?

If the other planes are unaffected, why don't the gods plane shift everyone over before destroying the world, then shift them back later?

Presumably that would take more energy than they are capable of providing. Even working together, that is a LOT of targets for plane shift.

How long does it take to build a new world?

Less than fifteen minutes, apparently.

One could assume that the various high priests are aware of this and will all plane shift themselves elsewhere during the destruction/rebuilding of the world. Upon reappearing in the new world, they'd easily be the most powerful entities present.

Epic mass planeshift incoming.

Not to build a world. To destroy the current one.

Since the Snarl just kind of hung out after destroying the first world (even as the Gods weaved a new one around it), the clear implication is that the Snarl is fairly mellow unless it has a shiny toy to play with. According to the Crayons of Time, the gods 'hid for centuries'.

If the last Gate ruptures the Gods would blow the world apart hopefully before the Snarl notices, and it would just kind of hang out while the Gods took the time to spin a new world around it.

What about Xykon? Surely he would regrow from his phylactery in his fortress in the astral plane. So he'd be around and a terrible menace to the new world. (Except of course Redcloak has double-crossed him and has the real phylactery, but that is a detail.)

A re-created world would have no Rifts for him to mess with. The Rifts were holes in the world, and they took a LONG time to form. A newly created world would have no holes in it.

So at that point Xykon is nothing more than a reasonably powerful Lich with ADD.

As the gods appear to have a standing "no free XP" rule, an epic level lich sitting around doing his own thing may very well spell the end of the world, again, because there aren't any heroes high enough level to stop him, especially if The Dark One prevents the creation of fodder races this time around.

Except that he would not be the only one. Julio said he was going to one of the chaotic planes. I am sure the order could hang out on the semi-elemental plane of ranch dressing and so on.
