So, at 967, V says that he/she will go back to buy the boots of Dimension Door if enough money is left after his/her errands. I'm not aware that we have had any clue whether he/she did, except the big bag of money left on the counter where he/she buys the orb. How much would all of this be, and would V have enough money for the orb and the boots (to boot!)?

D&D-wise, how would it work changing boots in the middle of a battle or in other time-sensitive events (like Belkar falling off the sky)?

While we don't know, the boots of dimension door had a different color than what we see V wearing (most recently in 993.) Since the brown boots she's worn for a long time do not appear to be magical, it is unlikely she'd continue wearing them if she was able to purchase the purple magic ones.

V is too smart for that - if you're wearing non-magical gear and you get magical gear, you wear the magical gear all the time.

Well, she may have taken a page from Haley's book and changed the color of the boots. V wouldn't even need dye, assuming prestidigitation is in the ol' spellbook.

Assume nothing, we've seen V cast Prestidigitation.

Here's a link to that (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0323.html), if anyone wants confirmation. Panel 2.

Prestidigitation doesn't help. Any changes to an object made by a spell "beyond just moving, cleaning, or soiling it" persist for merely an hour. Dyeing something might have some tenuous connection to "soiling" it, but the spell description itself makes a distinction between "coloring" an object and "soiling" it. So if V were dying the boots with prestidigitation she'd have to recast the spell every hour.

Why would she dye them anyway? Unlike Haley's boots of speed, these boots go quite well with her existing color scheme.
