What's the best way to maximize spells per day on a wizard chassis?

Some combination of focused specialist and other stuff...

Go Illumian with the power sigil Aeshkrau, at some point dip Cancer mage and get infected with Festering Anger (Dipping Binder for Naberious or Incarnate for Strongheart Vest also work). Enjoy having a cumulative boost to strength AND getting your bonus spells from said stupidly huge strength score.

Is there anything slightly less cheesy and more straightforward?

I mean, other than (Focused) Specialist, Domain Wizard, Elf Generalist, and other things of that nature, the best way to get more spells is a high attribute. There are other ways to raise attributes, but that's a simple and effective one. You could do stuff with polymorph any object for a less dramatic effect.

You can also get a huge number of Pearls of Power, but doing that is either pointlessly expensive or a suboptimal use of cheese.

So I'm looking at Focused specialist, domain wizard into Mage of the arcane order. What else can easily be added to get a few more per day.

Side question, can a MotAO pull spells from a restricted school?

1. You cannot be a specialist and a domain wizard, because the domain wizard variant explicitly forbids specialization.

2. When you ban a school you are no longer able to cast spells from that school. The spellpool class features allows you to call a spell, and then use it (implying that you cast it), but it does not explicitly override the wizard's banned school feature.

You dont need to dip into cancer mage to use festering anger cheese, just keep a lesser rod of restoration on you. One tap a day will cure you of the con damage and keep the str score.

Since restoration just heals ability damage and doesnt cure the disease, nothing bad will happen.

You can gain Wizard levels to get more spells/day, you can use some fairly rare items that recover spells, you can use Rings of Wizardry to double your slots. Beyond that? Raising your attributes is the best plan available, and combining Illumian with Festering Anger and some method of healing/ignoring ability damage is the most efficient path. Cancer Mage is a well-known method, but there's others.

You can try reducing the number of spells you need to cast. Reserve feats in CM, Persistent Spell with alternate-cost methods (Incantatrix, Spelldancer, etc.), Eternal Wands, etc. are all good methods for accomplishing this.

On the subject of casting spells from your prohibited schools, you can take the domain power ACF in CC at Wizard 5 for the Magic domain and use wands, scrolls, and staffs of spells from your prohibited school.

Rings of Wizardry (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/rings.htm#wizardry) double your base spells/day, and Pearls of Power (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#pearlofPower) can be used to recover spells you've already cast.

A character using Spell Points (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/spellPoints.htm) with the Vitalizing variant at the bottom (last paragraph) could cast an unlimited number of spells each day, as long as he has Fast Healing and immunity to fatigue/exhaustion.

Become a Nightmare Spinner, and after that join the ranks of Thorn Knights. That gets you one extra illusion spell and divination spell per day.

Scribe Scroll feat.

Easiest way to maximize daily spell expenditure, unless you're seriously worried about casting all your spells every day.

If you can aim high, there are two relevant artifacts in Magic of Faerūn:

A rod of Valmaxian (minor artifact) gives you one additional spell slot per day of each spell level you can cast.
A naga crown (major artifact) doubles your arcane spell slots per day, excluding any gained by rings of wizardry or the like, and possibly not including bonus spells. It also gives See Invisibility, Repulsion, and Spell Turning at will as well as a few reptilian-related benefits.

There appear to be multiple instances of each of these items, which might make it easier to get your DM to approve them.

Illumian Beguiler / Focused Specialist / Ultimate Magus gets a rather ridiculous amount of spells per day. Wear a few Rings of Wizardry, of course.

Or, if you want cheese, (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=3945177&postcount=38) try for Wizard / Totemist / Warlock / Truenamer / Shadowcaster / Ur-priest / Anima Mage / Soul Manifester | Psion / Cerebremancer / Psychic Theurge / Eldritch Theurge / Noctumancer

You could always get a use activated item of Mages Lucubruation (Sp?) for pretty much eternal spell slots.

Scrolls of Project Image / Astral Projection are another high-level spell-slot maximization strategy.

On an not particularly related note, does that drop two levels of Wizard casting? Also, which sigils?

No, just one.

Naen/krau. Then take Practiced Spellcaster to make sure UM always boosts your wizard level.

You could - if you had Epic wealth. The guidelines are pretty clear about items being priced by comparing them to existing items.

On the other hand, wands of Rary's mnemonic enhancer are not a bad way to give your spell slots a second wind if a day drags on too long. They're not exactly light on the wallet, though.

Just keep plane-shifting to a plane with fast time. Recover your spells and then plane-shift/teleport back.
