My friend is playing an archery based hunter with an elephant companion.
At 7th level his elephant becomes larger and gains the trample(ex) ability.
Here is entry for the 7th level elephant:
7th-Level Advancement: Size Large; AC +3 natural armor; Attack gore (2d6), slam (1d8); Ability Scores +8 Str, –2 Dex, +4 Con; Special Abilities trample (2d6).
Here is the listing for trample (ex):
Trample (Ex)
As a full-round action, a creature with the trample ability can attempt to overrun any creature that is at least one size category Smaller than itself. This works just like the overrun combat maneuver, but the trampling creature does not need to make a check, it merely has to move over opponents in its path. Targets of a trample take an amount of damage equal to the trampling creature’s slam damage + 1-1/2 times its Str modifier. Targets of a trample can make an attack of opportunity, but at a –4 penalty. If targets forgo an attack of opportunity, they can attempt to avoid the trampling creature and receive a Reflex save to take half damage. The save DC against a creature’s trample attack is 10 + 1/2 the creature’s HD + the creature’s Str modifier (the exact DC is given in the creature’s descriptive text). A trampling creature can only deal trampling damage to each target once per round, no matter how many times its movement takes it over a target creature.
section 1(increasing trample dmg):
What he wants to do is maximize his trample damage and make a charger/overrunner mount while raining down arrows of death from its back.... What is the best way to pull this off?
How would one go about increasing the dmg of the trample itself -- the entry for trample says its based on "SLAM" but that is clearly not the case int he elephants entry (2d6 <> 1d8). What improved natural weapon feat is needed to increase the dmg of trample(slam or gore - or is slam itself a valid target of the imp nat weapon feat)?
Section 2(other useful feats for the animal):
Would the overrun feats help with trample. the written rules say that trample is based on overrun. would imp overrun negate the at of opportunity? are any other feats valid for this build. Ive built many characters, but never an animal companion - so im not sure what feats woudl be good for this type of combat style animal.
Section 3(teamwork feats):
I really cant find any useful teamwork feats for this type of play(archer mounted on his animal companion). Are any of the feats useful? i could see maybe coordinated shot. but beyond that - nothing really?
Our campaign is limited to Paizo only feats and rules.. no 3PP/homebrew allowed.
