What possible benefit could I gain by lying here?
Games by Raistlin (thanks for the easy-to-work-out hint, by the way)- Empire (and Rockstar, but that was the hint). I or II... I pick II, because of the previous question. Empire II. Happy now?

The game with Princess Bride I was seer in. I was sending PMs to Raistlin. So it must have been one of the empires.

The rat was Ms E. So that would be number 1, as she wasn't in number 2, iirc. Empire II was star trek.

So therefore, I disagree with your idea of Empire II. It was Empire I.

DING!! Castaras picks up the square and the win!!!!

Congratulations to both our contestants for their epic and hard fought battle.

Castaras, I gladly present to you the official prize of Playground Squares, the congratulation cake!! It is a sign of your random forum knowledge and skill. Now please give Timmy the Baker the antidote.

Faerwain, for your chivalry a nd hard fought battle, I am proud to present to you the consolation cookie. You went through a brutal battle with the lady Drow and it was an epic game to be sure.

I need two new players and 9 new squares. Remember, if you were a square in this game, you need to wait 24 hours before signing up as a square in the next game.

I believe DivaDe21 said something about wanting to be a contestant this round.

Just saying. As for squares, I'd love to be one again. If after 24 hours there aren't enought people to fill all them squares, sign me up for any of them, except the central one.

SQUARES? The pie are squared, after all, so can I be too?

GUEST COMMENTATOR!

Well from up here in the booth we can see the game is shaping up. Looks like we'll have an epic battle as the The Bushranger tries to dominate over DivaDe21, whom everyone knows is clearly the domina[beeep] Were running a public show here buddy. Keep it clean.

Stay tuned. We'll be back for more after a quick word from our sponsers.

The Center for Disease Control has issued a medical alert about a highly contagious, potentially dangerous virus that is transmitted orally, by hand, and even electronically.

This virus is called Weary Overload Recreational Killer (WORK). If you receive WORK from your boss, any of your colleagues, or anyone else via any means whatsoever - DO NOT TOUCH IT. This virus will wipe out your private life completely. If you should come into contact with WORK you should immediately leave the premises.

Take two good friends to the nearest grocery store and purchase one or both of the antidotes - Work Isolating Neutralizer Extract (WINE) and Bothersome Employer Elimination Rebooter (BEER). Alternatively, Prescription Employer People Stress Insulator (PEPSI) may be substituted in mass quantities. Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system.

And now, back to the show.

Hey Atreyu, Supagoof, everyone. I'll take...Evnafets' square. The category? ...Avatar history!

The show has started, but before we continue, I'd like to welcome to the commentators booth - you all know him as the lovable orc/ogre from town - Graklok!

Hewwo Evybody!

Well Graklok, DivaDe21 has shown up and snatched away the first question with an amazing display of speed and agility. She has selected....Avatar History. This subject spans both time and persons, as from the down of the forums, there has been avatars and artist creating them. Let's see how well Evnafets handles the question as we focus the cameras on him.

Cam-ra's? Whatsa Cam-ra?

It's used to take your picture and send to people.

Picsure. Graklok took a picsure once, of a pwetty lady smiling, but some badge guy said "Mon Ami! Ze Mona Lisa. Alto Thief!" den began chasing Graklok with sticks, so Graklok ran from gwass pyr-mid pwace.

I think your talking about the French Police and famous painting of the Mona Lisa by Leonardo DaVinci...but enough about that. Back to the show.

Atreyu the Masked LLama
2008-05-21, 01:49 PM
Thank you, Zar Peter!! I'd have made the board myself, but my horoscope said great harm would befall me if I did.

And thank you, Graklok, for that insightful and incriminating commentary.

Hmmmm..you chose avatar history. Lets see, it says you joined in Nov 2005, so you were around for this question and I think Evnafets was, as well, so here we go.

Bookman has had many interesting avatars during his time in the Playground. He has been a switch blade wielding scared guy, a genuis with a low fortitude save, and a Starbuck's employee. For a long time, he had an avatar of a literature obsessed TV star. Who was the TV star that served as Bookman's avatar?

evnafets
2008-05-21, 04:05 PM
Oh yes. I remember Bookman. He was one of the first seers to ever announce his role publicly in a werewolf game. For a while it was called the "Bookman maneuver", or "doing a Bookman".

Lets see. Short hair. Glasses. Book in hand. That lets out the Incredible Hulk. He wasn't much of a literature buff anyway. I think it was "Dexter" from "Dexter's Laboratory", but honestly I can't keep track of everyones current avatars, let alone avatars from years ago.

Uncle Festy
2008-05-21, 04:58 PM
The cat on Uncle Festy's head looks through the glass wall separating it's square from Quinsar's. "FEEEESH!" it shouts, leaping from Uncle's head... *splat* into the wall.
Eeeeeeeeeeooooooo... *plop*

Quinsar
2008-05-21, 05:49 PM
Quinsar jumps when the cat hits the glass. Then the fish mask smiles, and starts making faces at the cat.
Nah nah nah nah! You can't get me!:smalltongue:

Uncle Festy
2008-05-21, 07:35 PM
Uncle pulls out a scroll of Shatter. "You wanna bet?"

Quinsar
2008-05-21, 08:41 PM
The Quinsar child frowns and receeds into the corner of his square.
Nwuh uh sir...:smallfrown:

Diva De
2008-05-22, 07:10 AM
De shakes her head, grinning eagerly. Oh no, I remember this one! It was the avatar Bookboy had when I joined. So I'm going to disagree with Evna - sorry. She puffs her chest out proudly. I also happen to know the answer - it was Wishbone the dog, right?

Atreyu the Masked LLama
2008-05-22, 08:10 AM
DING!! It was indeed Wishbone the doggie. I miss that doggie. Ceika made him 4 different versions of it, at least. If Bookman joined after me, and you joined before me...then how was that the avatar he was using when you joined??

Can someone update the board please? I'd do it, but if I do, the prophecy will be fulfilled and we don't want that to happen.

Bushranger, its time to choose a square and a category.

A) The vain llama has yet another question about himself (werewolf firsts)
b) battling bad Kid Rock songs
C) map of blood

The Bushranger
2008-05-22, 08:24 AM
Bushranger, wearing a gray T-shirt and jeans, gives De a smile then returns his attention to our quadruped host.

I'll take Haruki and Vending machine vendettas, please.

Atreyu the Masked LLama
2008-05-22, 09:09 AM
The problem with the prophecy, Mordokai, is that its kinda vague. All we know is that it involves either "The Noodle Incident" or "Puddingmageddon" and it is connected to me updating the board.

Okay, Haruki. This one is going to be easy.

Following on the heels of The Feud and the Slight Difference of Opinion was a brutal battle between two Canadians known as The Vendetta. The goal was the shove the other into increasingly deadly and brutal vending machines and the goal was carried out with ruthless efficiency all around the playground. One of these two combatants was an undead rockstar and the other one was of three brothers. Name these two vicious, violent, vindictive, vending machines warriors.

On a different note: do we have a plan if one of our contestants gets eaten by a cat?? That's never happened before.

faerwain
2008-05-22, 09:26 AM
I think there are guidelines in the cat-astrophe management brochures.

Supagoof
2008-05-22, 10:17 AM
Well. it seems that DivaDe21 has shown knowledge about avatars using, as our host would say, Fuzzy logic. A question from Mordokai about the prophecy of updating the squares has many wondering but few quesstioning what the true propechy is. Would you happen to know Graklok?

Um, ya. Iffin he build it, den they will come.

Never have words so vague truly held so confusing a meaning, but I digress. Next up is Haruki-Kun with vicious vendettas of villianous and vile natures, so we'll venture into that soon. But first, another word from our sponsers....

Well, it seems like some debate has been brought about with the question of whether it was War or Vendetta that a fellow zombie forum member had. We think it might be a trick part of the question, as Atreyu never did mention that is was Zombie Rock Star. Perhaps there is another music loving Zombie wandering around the forums? Fello commentator, what are you thoughts?

Wah...huh...yeah. Wha id is gud far? Absowutely nuttin! Give it to me....

Thanks again for the colorful insight. Meanwhile, it seems that the new challenge has been named. Cristo Meyers and I will be continuing our game, now called Pass the Boom. Be certain to keep watch of hidden text in our posts for ways we continue to get discovery channels commercial jingle stuck in each other heads for a day. And before I forget, we need to take another commercial break. Here's a word from our sponsers.

Atreyu the Masked LLama

Ding! Correct. Hmmmm...maybe ZRS and Korith did have the war, but I thought they were the vendetta? Plah! This hosting thing is hard. Bookman used to be so good at it. So did Alarra.

Can someone update the board, please? I'd do it myself, but I'm dying to go spend , put in the bank, buy cool stuff with, start a savings account with, hmmmm..I can't decide...okay....how about a compromise? I'd do it myself, but I'm really dying to go put some of my economic stimulus check in the bank, set some aside for Dragon-Con, set some aside to purchase a llama mascot costume in a few years, and spend some to increase my horrorclix and card game collection. Honesty is kinda the best policy.

In any case, its time for DivaDe, the god eating monster in Titans, to pick a square and a category.

A) The vain llama has yet another question about himself (werewolf firsts)
b) battling bad Kid Rock songs
C) map of blood
D)Why we shouldn't eat cheezburger gods

Well, its time for Bushranger to pick a square and a category. Oh and I'll need someone to update the board. I'd do it myself, but my grandfather was a Mogwai, so I'm 1/4 Mogwai and as I'm sure you know. Mogwai can't be fed or update boards after midnight.

8 out of 10 actual Werewolf games feature a lycanthropic pack of wolves, but two games have been werewolf free. Which two games of Werewolf saw a lack of lupines in the roles?

The Bushranger has decided to see if Uncle Festy is up for the task of helping him maintain some sort of control on this board. We here up in the commentators booth are puzzled by the manuaver, *looks over at Graklok still applying makeup* or perhaps just puzzled, but we wish him some luck anyway.

Mr Llama? Its boring back here with nothing to do. This big X gets in my way, and I can't even see the moon properly.
Can I help out with the game in some way?

Can I push the big red button? Can I? Can I? I likes pushing the big red button! It makes a cool noise
(evvie reaches for the big red button)

Awwww - he has to get the question wrong first?
But he DID! He DID get it wrong!

There was too a werewolf in Werewolf IX: Hogwarts Havoc. His name was Sirius Black. All Harry Potter fans should know THAT!
(evvie reaches for the big red button again)

What? Sirius Black doesn't count as a werewolf? Try telling HIM that.
Well Uncle Festy still got it wrong. There were SO werewolves in Werewolf V: D&D. The D&D roles were just extra abilities.

So can I push the Big Red Button then Mr Llama? Do I? Do I? Now?

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT! WRONG!

YAY! That was fun!

Actually the other werewolf game without werewolves was WW VII: Urban Lycanthropy where Wererats lived in the Sewers, and Ninjas were assassinating people.
DivaDe gets the square, and gets to choose another one too? Pick me! Pick me!.

Quite interesting indeed. First of all, I'll have to go with Andre Fairchilde, who lives relatively close to the Canadian Border (eh?) but is still a patriotic resident of the US, who has numerous Stars 'n Stripes towels, is known to photoshop the American Eagle in the background of family pictures and eats hamburgers and drinks cola on a daily basis!*
*: These are the facts, which I have of course not altered in any way! The mere idea!

When it comes down to acting like hooligans whenever the Vikings play a hockey/rugby/football/whatever match, Supagoof is Andre's #1 partner in crime! Since they live in the same city, Andre merely has to pay him a quick visit whenever he needs weapons of any kind, because Americans (especially those that are Super and of the Goofy kind) always want weapons! And they also eat hamburgers!
On a daily basis!

The last one can only be Indurain! Even in Canada they would never allow his streaking ways! No sirree! Only in America!

Super Saiyan Dissociative Identity Disorder is a serious problem for all members of that race. Its a bi-product of being able to switch power levels and hairstyles on a whim. It affected HALO's resident Saiyan by causing him to run around with at least 5 different accounts.

Blathing for Idiots
Memory Recall Tactics - when too much may be just enough
Making a MLT
Finding individuals with multiple appendages

So if you need help in one of these areas, come on down to PB Indusustries and take a course. You won't be sorry!*

Narrated Alchemists 1, played AC1 and LLD... If I recall correctly, it was the time when I joined about five or six games simultaneously... Fun times.

Cristo Meyers
2008-06-02, 10:39 AM
And it was Alchemists that unleashed me onto this board finally...even if I was killed on night 1...

I'll leave it up to you to decide if that's a good thing or not.

A questions, and an answer, so now the crowd awaits patiently as we tentatively look at DivaDe for whether or not she believes in Zeb the Troll.

Graklok look at other shows in studio. Graklok see notes that pwetty lady missin fwom others shows as well, sumtin about not audio-winchin her or sumtin.

Ah, I see, so she's currently not with the boards the at the moment.

Yep. Graklok bored too.

No, I'm not mean. I'm actually a really nice guy.

Otay. Graklok go mercial break now.

Right. Another word from our sponser....

SINGLE FEMALE seeks companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I'm a very good girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Call (555) 555-5555 and ask for Daisy, I'll be waiting....http://www.madison.com/communities/saa/library/files/cutest%20puppy.jpg

Hmmmm...this is a rather sad development. I've been told that Miss De will be away for an unknown length of time and so after speaking with her opponent, we have decided to pause their game and start a new one. Their game will resume whenever DivaDe returns. Until that time however, we need 9 new squares and two new contestants!!

Since the rules state that posters who were squares must wait 24 hours before becoming squares again after the game ends, anyone may sign up to be a square immediately. After all, the last game didn't end yet. So lets get some squares and contestants.

Oh and if you have a second, say a quick prayer for Miss De. I'm not sure if her situation warrants it, but it never hurts to pray. Thank you.

Alarra looks sadly at this question. "I remember that very well. I talked to the Ilev many times over the course of those events and eventually we were able to contact authorities and get him help, although it was never really very clear whether he'd meant it or not and then it all got very muddled with talk that he was impersonating someone else and it was all a joke...but it was a difficult mess and we all felt or him in any case."

And we're back for another round of Playground squares. It seems that an incorrect response has given Emperor Demonking the advantage. Let's see if he can roll with it as we look at the darker side of the boards. That was an ugly time, but a good reminder of the power of the playground.

Power of the pwaygwound?

Yes Graklok. This community has time in and time out shown how powerful a group of us is together. Whether it be uniting brothers seperated by "the man*" , people just needing advice, or even helping out the world by further supporting a supercomputing project that simply uses your PCs processing power while you don't need it, we have proven what we can do.

PC Pwocessessess power? Graklok dunno much bout dat, but Graklok know Graklok's cwub if weady for when people need help wit Cwubbing.

Right.

And Graklok awways ready to run through forum scweaming when forum get to serious or Graklokg don understan what people upset bout.

Right. You have the power.

I has teh power?

We all do Graklok. We all do. Now, let's get back to our show!

Okay, Bookie is passing the reins back to me, so lets get this game back to hopping goodness!! Okay, my friendly chef turned swordsman, here is your question.

Q: Who introduced the playground to the dragon egg phenomenon by starting the first Dragon Cave thread in Friendly Banter?

Griever
2008-06-17, 09:17 PM
LLAMA!!!!!!!!!!!! The demented dagger-denting daring dastardly delicatessen jumps for joy at the sight of the llama before sitting back down. I am sorry, the baker's outfit was more disguise than other. Although I do like pie... A cream-filled madness enters his eyes for a moment before he realizes that that one contestanty guy was tapping their foot impatiently.

DRAGONS?!?!? Dragon Eggs must be DESTROYED!! The bringer of those dark and evil critters was one, Mz. Jackal. Although I never actually met, spoke to or even knew of this person until about five minutes ago, so I wouldn't trust me. That could be the baker talking, though... Griever then enters a long rant about the unaccountability of bakers in attaining fluffy perfectly in the fluffing of their caps, which has led to a falling standard in society around the world, where children whom once looked upon bakers as the epitamy of respect and rolemodelship have been forced to outsource said rolemodel vacancy to such critters as llamas (nothing more need be said on that subject, speaks for itself *nods*). Unfortunately, this 5-star winning speech succeeded in knocking Griever unconscious, for he both failed his save vs. boring-damn speech and was mysteriously attacked from above by a reinforced cereal box.

DING!! Correct!

Griever's awesome and very appreciated message is correct. Oooh, speaking of flattery, even though you're a swordfighter now, will I still get rolls? And, Cristo, stop throwing food at the other squares unless you plan on sharing. I am one hungry king of the world!

I need someone to update the board. I'd do it myself, but I'm sleepy.

Hmmmm. What we have here is a failure to communicate. Emperor Demonking, CHOOSE YOUR SQUARE!!

Oooh, a roll. *munch munch munch* Tasty!

So...while we wait for the Emperor to show up, lets discuss the original Emperor in the Playground?

What is everyone's favorite avatar of Indurain??

Okay Zeb,

Here is your question.

Q: Which former titan is credited with introducing Kubb to the playground?

Zeb The Troll
2008-06-23, 12:32 AM
Ahh, t'were a fond summer day, the first time I was introduced to that wonderful game. Almost exactly a year ago now. Good times. Fond memories. I recall on that day that there was much discussion about the origins of the game.

As I recall it was invented by vikings on their way across the Atlantic and how hard it was for them to play during the squalls. The vikings, however loved the game and continued to keep it on board wherever they went. Centuries went by and ships got better and then pirates started romancing the seas with their lives of adventure and intrigue on the seven seas. It would be no time at all before one of these pirates spied a viking ship on a calm day playing their beloved Kubb and became quite curious as to what it was. The pirates sailed close to the vikings and fired on their ship until its health bar was well below half, but not so much as to actually sink it. The pirates boarded the viking ship and there was an odd two dimensional sword fight (remember, 3D hadn't been invented yet). It was close, with much back and forth, parrying and attacking, but eventually the pirate pushed the balance meter far enough that the viking offered to teach him Kubb if the pirate promised to leave him alive. The pirate captain agreed and was taught the game. Then he killed the viking captain anyway, just because that's what pirates do.

Sometime later there were enough pirates who only sailed the seas to play Kubb and were not, otherwise, very good pirates at all, having no interest in looting and plundering, that there was established an Order of the Kubb. It marked those who were dedicated enough to give up their livelihoods in safer climes in order to participate in this legendary sport.

From there the game was modified in little bits over the centuries and at some point the pirate gamers began, in their old age, to retire to Sweden where they figured out how to play it on grass. This was a very controversial turn of events. The die hard players wanted to keep the game pure and in its truest form, on the seas with the ever present danger of a sea monster interrupting your game. The Reformists, however, were delighted that they were able to play the game without having to constantly jump overboard to retrieve sticks or bricks that had taken an unfortunate bounce and leapt the railings. Since the game is now erroneously referred to as a "Swedish lawn game" it's clear that the Reformists eventually won out, giving us the Kubb we all know and love today.

So, who brought the game of Kubb to the Playground? Why, none other than the King of Pirates himself, El Jaspero, of course.

Big props out to ya, brudda!

Emperor Demonking
2008-06-23, 10:54 AM
I agree with Zeb.

Atreyu the Masked LLama
2008-06-24, 10:28 AM
DING!! Correct!! El Jaspero, is indeed credited with founding the order of the Kubb. You've got quite the positioning going here. Lets see how Haruki plays this out.

Haruki-kun, choose your square!!

Oh and can someone update the board, I'd do it myself, but I have to go help the Fantastic Four fight Galactus. Apparently, only someone of my bloodline has the finger dexterity to reach the ticklish spot on his left foot, in order to distract him.

Sadly, I'm too hopped up from the cleaning agents I used in the bathroom, so I'm too out of it to think of categories.

Don't Despair, Haruki. Its not like losing the game will be the Death of you. Tides turn as quickly as milk after its expiration date in these parts.

Cristo Meyers, while in Town, Indurain ran around under an alternate account. He mostly, successfully, pulled off a great shenanigan and almost managed to challenge himself to a game of Playground Squares, but it didn't come to pass. Don't worry, this isn't gonna be some weird obscure question like name the alternate account.

The alternate account that Indurain Dreamed up, played the characters of Des and Barnabas, his talking dog companion, while in Town. These characters are actually from a comic book series published under the Vertigo label. Which comic book series were these characters taken from?

P.S. Don't drink milk after the expiration date. It can cause nasty Delirium.

DING!! Correct! Not sure if the semi-subtle hints tilted the scales or not, but Haruki was correct to disagree. They were in fact, taken from Sandman and personally, I'm glad that Indy used Des and Barnabas because Dream himself really really bored me.

Emperor Demonking, choose your square!!!!

P.S. If someone could update the board, I'd really appreciate it. I'd do it my self, but I'm trying to cram 2 years worth of apt cleaning into 2 days for the meet-up. Hey, cool! My bathtub is white! I always thought off-tan seemed an odd color for a tub.

You know it's not everyday that you get a text message from a Llama telling you "Check Playground Squares". But I tell you, if that day ever comes, listen to his words. Thanks Atreyu, for both the excellent question, and the text message.

It's what you get.

What I get for what?

It's what you get when you mess with the BOOM DE YADA!

And now, the game long overdue from it's color purple commentary, would like to bring you this alarming news.

Alternatively, Prescription Employer People Stress Insulator (PEPSI) may be substituted. Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system.
And now back to your regularly scheduled floggings.
