Passed away today at age 76 from brain cancer (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/wes-craven-dead_55e3ac71e4b0aec9f353a177). His original Nightmare on Elm Street was one of the scarier movies I saw when it came out. And he revitalized the slasher genre with Scream when it came out (even though that was supposed to originally be a parody).

He will be missed.

I just recently saw Nightmare on Elm Street. It was good, and I'm sad to hear he's gone now. :smallfrown:

Woah.... that is really sad to hear, Nightmare on Elm Street was one of the firsts horror movies I ever saw, it scared me to death and I loved it (once I got past the trauma).

Oh...oh wow. I...I don't even know what to say. A big loss to film.

As a lifelong horror/slasher/thriller movie fan, this saddens me. Guess I know how I'm spending my day off tomorrow...

Hi ho, hi ho, one horror binge, to go...

Can't say I'm the dedicated fan of his work - because I'm not a huge fan of the genre, not because his work is bad - but his skill and influence on western culture is undeniable. Another sad day this year, that has taken so many good people already :smallfrown:

May his works keep little children (and grown adults) awake and in fear for decades to come...
