I am slightly reluctant to jump into making my own adventure in planescape right of the bat and would like to start off with a module to get me and my players into the setting before making my own campaign.

So I'm looking for recommendation For one.

There are a couple in the core boxed set that are designed to take Primes to the planes and get them started in Sigil. Not great but serviceable. I'd suggest those, as inspiration and something to build off of, if nothing else. Once there you can try something like "The Eternal Boundary" which is short and pretty straight forward.

Fairly important question - which version of D&D are you playing this in?

Planescape was originally written for 2nd Ed AD&D and if you are playing that version you are probably better off asking in this sub-forum (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?60-Older-D-amp-D-AD-amp-D-and-Other-Systems).
From the 3/3.5/3.P posts I know a lot of conversion work has been done, if you are playing with any of those version then you want this forum (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?59-D-amp-D-3e-3-5e-d20).
Similarly for 4th Ed (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?58-D-amp-D-4e) or 5th Ed (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?63-D-amp-D-5e-Next).

This being the general roleplaying forum doesn't mean you won't get answers, but they could be for any version of D&D or for something else - all set in the Planescape setting.
