Yeah, me again with another Eberron to 5e question.

One of the many, many, many sinister forces in the world of Eberron is the 'Inspired', altered humans that are possessed by Quori, essentially psionic nightmare beings. But, there's no way to represent these creatures in 5e, yet. So I was wondering how well the substitution of a "psionic" genasi would work.

I haven't had time today to fiddle with the stats and skills out of the EEPC, but I would like to hear the opinions on the idea; a genasi with the elements substituted for psychic damage, with the subtypes being various specialists.

It sounds like it could work, but remember that the psionic class currently only has 5 levels in it. Also, why not just use mind flayers? They seem to fit the mold; and you could always refluff them if you don't like the fluff the way it is.

I like your thinking, but I don't think you can call them Genasi.
Gensasi are specifically crossbreads from elemental planes. Radiance, magma, lightning, salt, ash, vacuum, ice, mineral, ooze, positive, and negative would all be viable in addition to the regulars based on the old inner planes chart: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/11/Innerplanes.jpg

However, there are many naturally psionic races, most from the underdark. If you can get ahold of a 3.5 edition expanded psionics handbook, that would be best. Just adapt them to 5e.
However, here are the ones I know:
- Dromites
- Duergar (Dark dwarves)
- Elans
- Githyanki
- Githzerai
- Half-giants
- Maenads
- Thri-kreen
- Xephs
- Mind Flayers

Thanks Falcon, but the thing I'm looking for is a 5e race/monster I can refluff into the Inspired. Heaven knows I have enough 3.5 material for the Quori and Inspired, but I'd like to have the character's stats on had just in case the situation comes up where the Riedran Ambassador falls into the unfortunate category of 'boss fight'. Not that he should, but it'd be prepared.

Mindflayers, Githyanki, Githzerai, and Thri-Keen all have psionics in the MM, if I remember correctly.

I had forgotten about the Gith... A refluffed Githyanki knight would be perfect to cover my ambassador. CR 8 is high enough to keep the players from solving their problems with him by force.

The reason i was thinking genasi was that i reckoned genasi were a natural consequence of Sarlona's elemental 'wild zones' (a spontaneous link between planes), and would be common in the Sarlonan slum in the starter town.

To be honest, I don't know much about Eberron, so it could feasibly be enough of a force in Eberron to work for genasi.

I think I would let it happen. Make it a unique, homebrewed creature. It will make the game fun.
