I'm looking for the strongest rope in 3.5, or something similar enough to a rope to count for things like use rope with a reasonable DM. Best my searches have come up with are silk rope and troll gut rope, though I honestly don't know the HP and strength to burst troll gut. I imagine there must be something better out there I'm missing.

I like troll gut because unless you're careless, you'll never run out. That's a personal preference, though.

For 3.5 you also got:

Rope of Climbing (moves at command), DMG (its superior variant is in UND\MIC),
Rope of stone (silk rope that can get hardness 8, 15 hp), CAd\MIC,
Spool of Endless Rope ("endless" silk rope), MIC,
Rope of Entanglement (hempen rope that does as named - entangles on command), DMG,

You could also do some "shenanigans" with rope, and Matter Manipulation (XPH).

P.S.
3E A&EG has Rope, Elven (4 HP, burst with a successful Strength check DC 25).

Earthsilk rope from Races of Stone (pg 160) is stronger than silk rope (10hp, burst 26) but thicker (falls between silk and hemp rope).

Secure Lines (Stormwrack p.134) has harndess 2, 5 hp, DC25 to burst, +5 enhancement on Balance and Climb checks for designated crew, will grab falling crew and set them down safely.

Riverine Lasso. 6000 GP for 30' of rope. Make it a Spellblade (+6000 GP, PGtF) and make it immune to disintegrate.

An actual spool of endless rope would be quite convenient, if it existed. But the magic item by that name is just 500'. Just buy ten 50' lengths of silk rope, and you'll be a lot better off.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm guessing earthsilk is probably the best I'm gonna get. The riverine trick is nice, but not likely to get past my GM. I guess I was holding out hope the Drow had some sort of ridiculously strong rope made of spider silk or something, but no luck.
