So I decided to show some of the sketches and pieces I've made of a couple of characters I've used on several rp games, I would like to get better to be able to do this for a living, I know I have much to learn so I welcome any positive criticism on any of the drawings, only way to improve is to learn from one's mistakes. So go ahead, send me your opinions please, if you like the pieces great, if you hate them, please tell me why.

1st Piece: Yúmarí Gutierrez Alcántara. She is a Mexican Vampire from the indigenous Tarahumara tribe in the north of Mexico, she was embraced around 60-70 years ago and joined the Sabbat, and currently roams the land as a living legend, terrorizing the population alongside her pack. She is a Tzmisce possessing great skill with Vicissitude, which might explain her twisted hand as it's meant to be of an unusual size with protruding bone claws due to the Discipline. Originally made for a game here on these forums, sadly the game seemed to lose it's ST and I didn't get to play her for long, but I really liked her so I decided to bring her to life.

The composition is pretty good, so if this is your 1st draft of this image: Good job! Not many people have a good eye for composition when they first start out.
The colors are good. (I especially like the blue shadows.)
The shading is good.
The detail is pretty good too.

On to the critique:

The proportions of the hand are off, and I think this is on purpose, but it still seems awkward. I think the thumb is too far up the hand, and should be closer to the wrist. The first finger is fatter than it needs to be imo, if you look a lizard's foot you'll see that their toes are different lengths but still close to the same size around.

Something is going on with her hood that it's hard to put my finger on. Either she has a really large head with a tiny face, or she has a ton of hair that's in a braid on top of her head, or a beehive, or turban or something under there? I like the shape of the hood, and I like the highlights and shadows you have contrasting each other at the top there, but when you get to the opening around her face it feels flat. There should be some deeper shadows around her cheeks and eyes. And her chin disappeared somewhere. I think you would have to either bring her chin out, over the folds of fabric at the bottom, or make the hood longer and position the knot lower, so there would be some area for the chin to exist.

If you were going more for a more aggressive angle/menacing look where the whole head is tilted forward, that would explain seeing more of the top of the head, and having the chin tucked under, but if that's the case then the eyes and eyebrows should be redone...

Just want to say again that I love the choice of blue for the shadows. A lot of people will just use black, and darken whatever colors they have. Using a different color for the shadows makes the highlights pop and the light source stick out more in a way that black doesn't.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I can see the mistakes you point out, I gotta practice my clothing a bit more, and the face does need some extra work. I don't think I'll be going back to fix these mistakes, but rather move on to the next piece and keep this as a reminder of what I need to work on, it really helps seeing one's flaws coming from a different perspective, I don't see a lot of these errors as I draw, so this has been great help!

One more pic, this is a concept for an Exalted character, he is a Lunar Exalted whose Spirit Shape is a squid, here you can see it in his hybrid form (Deadly Beastman Transformation). Background is crap, didn't really wanna spend much time on it, but rather practice color on the character itself, I'll focus on a background for another image sometime soon.

I really like the bright colors you use for the glow, and the shadows and background are both especially nice. I'm glad to see someone draw something like this, I thought I was the only weresquid lover. For criticism the proportions on the tentacles are slightly off in some places, but as someone who's drawn some tentacles in his day I can understand. The beak is also kinda hard to make out correctly, I think a slightly side oriented view would have probably done it more justice. Overall I'm definitely not a professional artist but I'd say it's great, good at a glance, really nice when you pay attention to details.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I figured the beak would make some confusion, because it's not meant to be a beak, but rather a small necklace holding a shark's tooth. I just couldn't get it right. :smallfrown:

One more piece! This is a request done for WSTD on the Onyx Path Forums for the Role Playing game Vampire: The Masquerade. His character is a Vampire of Haitian descent and a Pander (he has no Vampiric clan), he's also thaumaturge and is considered a "modern day pirate".
Not too happy with the colors as I was experimenting a bit with some new shading technique, but I learned a few things on the process though, so hopefully next piece will be better.

One more drawing and another Vampire: The Masquerade inspired piece, this time set during the Dark Ages. No name for the character, just playing with a concept of my own, a religious Vampire of the Nosferatu clan in some crypt or catacomb of sorts. Head is a bit weirdly shaped, as it's meant to be part of the deformities common amongst Vampires of this clan.

Not a color piece this time, just a quick sketch for a character in an Exalted game set in a post-apocalyptic waste land ala Mad Max, my 'road warrior' Jynx, a Zenith caste.

Another practice piece once again inspired by Vampire: The Masquerade, trying something new with the B&W and different inking style.
This character concept is for a Lasombra Antitribu Elder I'll hopefully be playing soon, accompanied by a pair of bodyguards that could be either ghouls or mentally brainwashed mortals (via the Dominate/Presence discipline) under the service of the Elder Vampire.

Fan art for Vampire: The Masquerade, another pic of my own character Álvaro.

Fan art for the game Vampire: The Masquerade, a character concept for a Sabbat game, the character in question is an exotic dancer embraced into the Setite (Serpents of the Light) clan, nicknamed "Cascabel", meaning "bell" or "rattle" as in rattlesnake. Sexy, mysterious and dangerously blood thirsty. No nudity or explicit/erotic content, but bloody and showing some skin.

Personally I Like your B & W's more than your Color sketches, especially the Lasombra Elder one. Do you do commissions?

As a matter of fact, I do! Let me know if you're interested and we can work something out.

Made one more piece today, this time trying to do some comic style inking and coloring.

One more character concept for a Vampire: The Masquerade game, this is the modern version of a Dark Ages character currently being played here on the forums.
An Old Clan Tzimisce (Dracul) Vampire Koldun sorceress.

Got a new drawing, trying to get some practice in B&W, mood lighting and backgrounds.
One more Fan art piece from the tabletop RPG game Vampire: The Masquerade, a new character I made for an upcoming game, a Nosferatu called Bug, or "bu6" as he's known online.

As you can probably tell, the game Vampire: the Masquerade really fuels my imagination these days, so here's one more pic depicting one of the in game powers, Vicissitude: the ability to shape flesh and bone like clay!

These are great! Request (if you take them): I noticed a vampire them, and was wondering if you've watched Buffy. Could you do Spike in his vamp mode? If you haven't seen Buffy, you should really watch it! Really like the art, fan of vampires myself, and I look forward to more, request granted or no.

There is a nice sense of 3D mass to these images. Are they 100% digital? I have to really work hard to get that kind of organic look on my wacom.
