The Tale of Jack Mac Tíre

Jack's life was strange from the moment he first opened his yellow wolf-like eyes. He was born to a Hag, no not an "uglier-than-a-shaved-cow" hag, a literal Hag. Specifically the Swamp Hag Magda. Now usually a Hag has no use for a male child and usually do something unspeakable to them, like eat them. For whatever reason Magda didnt, she raised Jack, but there was no love in this relationship. She was cruel and viscous, all she saw in Jack was a future Dark Champion for her, so she had some local Hobgoblins train him in the art of combat. Jack however wanted nothing to do with this, and so became quite adept at sneaking away from his teachers, it was almost as if the forest was helping to hide him....

His mother would inevitably find out about him sneaking off and then she would lock him in a hole. This didnt bother Jack overmuch until one day he was locked in the hole, for sneaking off once again, and it started to rain. By time his mother arrived he was clinging to cage atop the hole, desperately trying to push it off. Magda ripped the cover off the hole and dragged her son out, then took him home. This was the only time she seemed to show actual concern for her son.

The years passed and Jack became a young man who knew the swamps and woodlands better than anyone. His teachers had long since given up on training him on anything he didnt want to learn. Jack spent most of his days deep in the woods, far from his horrid mother. This is when he met Cora. Cora was a Pixie who lived in a small glade that Jack discovered on accident. Instead of being scared of the small girl flying about Jack was curious. In turn so was Cora, there was something strange about this boy. The too became great freinds, and more, as the years went by.

On Jack's 15th birthday his mother presented him with his own sword. It was a finely crafted Greatsword, made by the Hobgoblins. He spent most of the day with his mother and the Hobgoblins celebrating his adulthood. When Jack got a chance he slipped away to go see Cora. What he didnt know is that his mother had him followed by a goblin tracker, who followed Jack to the glade. Jack showed Cora his sword and told her that he could finally leave and that she should go with him. She agreed, and so Jack ran back to his home to get his meager possessions. The tracker ran back to Magda.

Magda was furious, no one would take Jack from her. She went to the glade with several hobgoblins and murdered Cora. Jack got back to the glade just in time to see Magda snap Cora's neck. With that sound something snapped inside Jack. With a howl of primal unrestrained fury Jack drew his sword and charged his mother, cutting down Hobgoblins as he did. Magda turned at the scream and died with a look of shock on her face as her son rammed all 4 feet of solid steel through her chest.

Later Jack would remember that looking down on his mother's corpse, he felt nothing. He took Cora's body to a willow she loved and buried her there. Then he took what he could from the copses in the glade and left. Unbeknownst to him he was being watched the entire time....

Appearance: Jack is a young man, 16 years old, but he looks older. He has a full beard and his dark brown hair, usually kept long and tied back, has streaks of iron grey through it. His eyes are his most distinctive feature, they are the eyes of a wolf.

Jack is a very jaded individual and as such very rarely shows any emotion. There is one exception to this, Undead. Jack isnt sure why, but he has a burning hatred for the living dead, one that defies logic. What Jack doesnt realize is, is that he is and "Ensorcelled Mortal". A mortal that has had long contact with the fey and as such has become more fey-like.

Interesting quirks: Jack is terrified of being trapped. Not claustrophopic, he's fine if he can move, but clap him in irons or in a room where he cant move and he will panic. Also Jack has been having the same dreams for the past 6 months. Two people are singing, but they are singing very different songs. Jack will occasionally find himself singing the words to one or the other when awake.

Ignite the fires far
Sisters of solace singing
Ignite the fires far
The mourning bells are ringing

Deep in the crumbling walls
The souls of the cursed will fall
Though kingdoms will fade, decay
The ghosts of the past shall stay

Sign of flame will sting
Punishment I bring
Steel and silver sing
For justice

Keen to the scent, the hunt is my muse
A means to an end this path that I choose
Lost and aloof are the loves of my past
Wake the White Wolf!
Remembrance at last

Wake the White Wolf at the dawn of war
The end of the age is-a coming now

One seems to be singing about him and the other seems to be telling him to do something. He tries to ignore both.

So thats Jack, the thing watching him was a Fey of some kind, not sure if thats good or bad yet. So im taking suggestions for what the songs should mean. Obviously Jack is the White Wolf and i was thinking of having the Fires be a bad thing, sort of a choice Jack needs to make. Mostly im trying to get ideas so i can give them to my DM so he doesnt just get a huge character plot line he needs to make up.

First off, the belief that Jack thinks he is the White Wolf in the song is a great place to start. That can lead you a couple of directions. I've always found a wee bit of misdirection is best for the story

He actually is the White wolf, Harbinger of War, and awakening that part of him will bring the end of the age. He can't stop it.
He should be the White Wolf, and must make the decision to either follow that path, which leads to the great destruction, forcing him into an eternal hunt... but he can choose not to take that mantle, because he believes in justice rather than the wildmind of the wolf.
He is a candidate to be the White Wolf, but to attain that mantle he would have to destroy a kingdom, as in Song 1, which he doesn't want to do.
He thinks he is the White Wolf, but will eventually meet one with eyes like his but silver & white hair, and Jack realizes THAT is the white wolf, harbinger of war, and those songs are about him hunting the wolf.

Other things you can glean from the songs:
the souls of the cursed will fall // The ghosts of the past shall stay - He finds himself haunted by the ghost of Cora, which impacts his decision making. This could also mean other ghosts of the past may pop up at random times... no malevolent ones, as they have all fallen.
Ignite the fires far // Sign of flame - Jack thinks these are some form of destruction, but later discovers the flame inside. This could be emotional, spiritual, or literal... and could be a nod to him being the wolf, or to him fighting the White Wolf (wolves don't hunt with fire). He might also think the opposite - they're about the fire inside (the wanderlust, indifference, desire for freedom) when they're actually referring to fire.
Various expanded senses - Fires Far, Singing & mourning bells, keen to the scent, etc - Jack could gain some sort heightened senses, either as actual senses, or in a vision, or by temporarily or permanently becoming more wolfish.

Hope it helps
