There's a couple of prestige classes in the Shackled City adventure: High Handcrafter and Pathwarden.

If we're counting 3rd party d20 (like War of the Burning Sky), there's lots!

There's a few in the Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde:

Serene Guardian
Solar Channeler
Dark Scholar
Twisted Lord

Most Officially Licensed(but not published) WotC content could be considered rare. A few of my favorites being the Scientist and Life Shaper.

I think most people miss the Berserk, Justiciar of Taiia, and Soldier of Light prestige classes from Deities and Demigods.

I always think of the Ebonmar Infiltrator class from Cityscape for this kind of thing. The table of contents doesn't list it as a prestige class, and doesn't include it in the list of character options. (It's also one of the most Eberrony prestige classes ever, but has absolutely nothing to do with Eberron, at least not overtly.)

I think there was also a prestige class in the Ravenloft book, but I don't have that one to check. I think it's like "Order of the Raven" or something. Like, the order of knights that Strahd used to be a member of, maybe? This'd be easier to explain if I had the book.

Knight of the Raven. If you remember a poster on other forums called 'carnivore,' he used it often.

Silver Marches has Peerless Archer, a pretty neat class with abilities like ranged power attack.

In addition, if the goal is just 'find a class hardly anyone sees played', you could probably use most of the base classes from the completes without batting an eye.

Favored Soul, Spirit Shaman, Shugenja, Wu Jen, Hexblade, Spellthief, and to a lesser extent Scout and Ninja don't get used all that often. They are then not the most powerful classes (Especially when you match them up against their direct comparisons!), but everything I've stated except ninja is generally better than a rogue or fighter, so if your group involves those you're in good shape power wise.

Why not? The People of the Black Blood are tribes of lycanthrope Malar worshipers. If anybody would have special hunters, it would be them.

The others I've never even heard of, but Tainted Sorcerer gets brought up quite a bit (usually by people who confuse it with Tainted Scholar, but still).

Including the amazing Yathrinshee, a 6/10 drow-only theurge class, with the only saving grace that it adds all your caster levels together for necromancy spells :D.

Expedition to the Demonweb Pits has a couple of PrCs too.

I'm a big fan of Demon Wrecker, easy to get into, full casting, 5 levels, and amazing abilities. At level three half of all your spell damage becomes untyped, at level 4 all your allies (and you) count as holding cold iron and good weapons, and at level five you automatically beat the SR of chatoic evil outsiders.

I try to squeeze it into every cleric I play.

And then there's the arcane version....

I've only ever seen the Voodan--Dark Tales and Disturbing Legends, a Ravenloft book--mentioned once on the forums, and I've never seen it used. It gets talked about amongst my D&D group, but only because I'm the one talking about it :smalltongue:

Try, oh, every PrC in the Tome of Magic. I have only ever seen one of them (disciple of the word) in play, and that was me trying to be low-OP.

I present a build I created when one of my friends said that ToM was only good for binders:

race: strongheart halfling
32pt: 10(8) str, 14(16) dex, 14 con, 16 int, 10 wis, 14 cha (all boosts to int)
alignment: chaotic neutral
build: warlock 1/wizard 1/cloistered cleric 1/master of shrouds 2/nosomatic chirurgeon 1/acolyte of the ego 2/nar demonbinder 1/fiendbinder 1/bereft 5/fiendbinder +5
feats: iron will{1}, least dragonmark(mark of healing: lesser restoration){race}, improved initiative{combat wizard ACF}, spell focus(conjuration){3}, knowledge devotion{domain devotion ACF}, augmented summoning{dragon below domain}, extra rebuking{master of shrouds 1}, truename training{6}, lesser dragonmark(mark of healing: restoration){heir's mark}, mother cyst{9}, obscure personal truename{bereft 1}, quicken utterance{12}, utterance of the perfected map(fog from the void){15}, empower utterance{18}
invocations: summon swarm
morphic cadences: cadence of the distant step

This build can bind fiends, spam the bereft syllables as desired, cast supernatural versions of the mother cyst spells at-will, dimension door as desired, summon shadows, solid fog as desired, and cast 7th level nar demonbinder spells at CL 25. Get all your fiends with the possession ability so they can possess you and aid another for truespeak checks. It does require the ruling that bereft syllables count as utterances though.

As for rare PrCs: halfling whistler (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20061121a&dcmp=ILC-RSSDND) is almost never mentioned, even though it is basically a better wizard for halflings.

Dark ScholarIt's actually a pretty neat PrC! It has autosilent lower level spells, CL bump, and few more nice things.

Another interesting PrC that I liked playing was Candle Caster from Tome and Blood.

I have never seen this class before, and I am figuratively dying with laughter now. I don't think I've ever seen such a ridiculously narrow class concept.

Ghost Slayer
...

I once had a player who desperately wanted to play a ghost who was a ghost slayer. He got started making the character but then stopped when we realized that ghosts are explicitly banned from being ghost slayers. He was heartbroken. I had him tell me about the character and what he wanted to do with it. Nothing he wanted was terribly cheesy so I lifted the restriction with the clause that his character could not know that he was a ghost and would adamantly refuse to even so much as acknowledge any evidence of his being so. The character was named Gordon Host (G. Host) and to this day remains my group's most memorable character due to his porosity and hijinks.

That come up on a thread recently. The issue was that it doesn't appear on any of the standard PrC lists, as with most of the Web based PrCs. If people can't find it then it won't get played.
